I absolutely love this place! I can't even describe it, but I will do my best. It's a giant warehouse of every kind of meat, Korean snacks, Chinese snacks, SOME veggies/fruit, bananas, drinks, boba teas, bubble tea, etc. there is something for everyone in this store. They have FANTASTIC prices, especially on their meat. We got chicken drummies a pack of 3 large ones for $1.29 and it's GOOD quality. They do have some poor quality meat there, but you just have to look for the kind you're looking for and you'll get it for an amazing deal. The cashiers are so happy, personable, and polite. My fiance and father in law and I hit it off really well with the sweet Guatemalan woman who was working at the register. She was such a sweetie. We will definitely be back. I'm so glad I found this place!!!

The market is small but caters to Chinese customers. I cook and eat Chinese food and can get most everything I want here, except that their selection of frozen dumplings and steamed buns is smaller than what's available at United Noodles. Their prices for tofu are way better than the supermarket.Shanghai Market has a complete selection of seasonings (including the indispensable Lao Gan Ma chili sauce) lots of fresh vegetables, and they also carry my favorite canned red bean congee!

Quality Asian Supermarkets are tough to find in the Twin Cities. There isn't one supermarket that can satisfy all my grocery needs. I always have to go to multiple supermarkets to get what I need. With that said, Shanghai Market is a decent place. I came across this supermarket unexpectedly. I was planning on going with my friend at the time to Shanghai Wholesale, but accidentally selected this one instead. They are both somewhat close to each other, but different indeed.Shanghai Market is a very small, but well packed market. They have a decent selection of vegetables like bok choy, napa, enoki, mushrooms, and others. There's some frozen meats as well, but I'm a flexitarian, meaning is A semi-vegetarian where i will eat occasional inclusion of meat products. I only eat meat when I go out to eat, which is a couple times a week. The vegetables are pretty fresh for the most part. I mainly come here to buy soft tofu for my soondooboo. The soft tofu here is a lot cheaper than most other Asian supermarket competitors in the area. It's only $1 at Shanghai Market, compared to $1.59 at United Noodles. The only downside is sometimes they don't have a lot in stock. I buy things in bulk, so I'd hate to make the drive here and find out they only have a couple left. The rice here is also a lot cheaper than United (almost $10 difference for the 40/50 pound bag of rice). Something to note when shopping here is check the expiration of those canned, packaged products!! There are a lot of expired stuff here that they continue to sell. You can tell, they have overstock of products that don't sell well. They just keep it on the shelf. This mostly applies to their canned products, but double check everything in case! If you do that, then this place is a decent place to get your groceries. But as I mentioned earlier, I only come here to buy the tofu. Lastly, this place does take credit card, but there is a minimum, which I believe is around $15. This place also gives discounts if you pay in cash, so make note of that!

I am a member of a Chinese cultural club at nearby Macalester. When we needed 200 mooncakes for our mid autumn festival event, my Chinese friends and fellow club members went to Shanghai Market. Staff was very kind to us and helped us get our enormous order of mooncakes. My friends & the staff were able to come to a discounted price due to our large quantity. While I was in a group of Mandarin speakers who could have helped me, I, as a primary English speaker and second year Mandarin student, did just fine here! English translations are on many products, and if they aren't then there are always the shelf labels in both Mandarin & English. The staff member that helped me check out easily switched to English.Other Asian markets in the TC area are larger, but this was really nice. I recommend this to anybody looking for authentic Chinese ingredients/food.

Perhaps it was because I used to shop at an Asian store in Indiana that has great selection with fair prices, I wasn't impressed by this small store. You can pretty much get all kinds of veggies for a Chinese meal, but I'm not sure about the freshness of their meats. It has a decent selection of spices and snacks, but the snacks are pricier than they should be.The owner was very nice, but the other staff were not very helpful. Overall, my experience there was OK.

This is a wonderful family owned and operated store. They may not have the extensive produce and live fish one might find at Dragon Star, but if one just needs a few items this is a great place to shop. And the price is right.
