Delicious ice cream to top off a day hiking at the State Park. Schoony's is a great old fashioned ice cream shop that's located right off the hiking path in Taylor Falls. Large selection of flavors and they serve up generous portions. I enjoyed this multi- faceted ice cream, the Pirates's Booty in a waffle cone. It was bomb! I got the ice cream right after hiking and it was sooooo good I finished it off right away...so sorry, no pictures! Takng off one star because they charge a surcharge of $2.00 if you pay by credit or debit card.....what the heck?

What a fun place! Big ol hot dogs, dressed up a few different ways, adult beverages, wide soda selection and ice cream along with pin ball games, little kid rides and historic decor. We had a wonderful visit.

Great ice cream and fun environment! I'm overcompensating with the 5th star but I think the other reviews are unfair

Schoony's is a nice malt shop/pizza joint right off of Hwy 8 as you enter Taylor's Falls. It makes for a fun stop especially if you are hiking the glacial potholes area or taking a riverboat ride along the St. Croix.Schoony's seems to have a variety of ice cream flavors which is always impressive. Not as many as a place like the Grand Ole Creamery in St. Paul, but still a wide selection. They also offer shakes and malts in the majority of ice cream flavors--being shake enthusiasts, my brothers and I had to try a couple. I sampled the hot fudge shake and what I believe was strawberry banana malt. They are made with real ice cream and topped with whipped cream, a cherry, and a cookie. You can always taste the difference at places that make authentic shakes/malts. This place does that well. I didnt try anything else, but Ive heard the pizza is good there. The interior is cleary very old--it's given away by the ornamental tin ceilings. They have an old school looking soda bar area in the back with a few old games and a vintage looking Coke machine. They have outdoor seating as well. I am not aware of how the parking situation is, but I know that it can be tricky at times to park in these popular little river towns if you are there during peak times. I parked in the State Park parking lot just down the street for $5 (it seemed worth it).Pros: Nice stop for a snack if you are in Taylor's Falls on a hot day, wide variety of real ice cream shakes/malts, located right by the river in Taylor's FallsCons: Shakes/malts are pricey ($5.50), they charge a fee for using a credit card, not worth driving out of the way to go to

If I were to use one word, it would be underwhelming. My husband and I walked in on a hot day, right at noon. We were ready for some pizza and ice cream as we were quite hungry from hiking around at Interstate State Park. First thing we noticed when we walked in, no one inside. Not a good sign, but we headed to the ice cream anyway. Decent flavor selection- we got Mackinac Island Fudge. As we were looking over our selections, the guy behind the counter says we normally have more, but yesterday was the weekend. I look up to see what pricing is for pizza. Guy behind the counter says there's no pizza available because the cook is late. I was disappointed to say the least. As I'm reading the "menu" I notice they do not offer malts (even though the sign outside says malt shop) or shakes and hot dogs and brats are only sold on weekends. The ice cream was delicious, but would I go back? No. Oh, and bring cash unless you want a dollar extra charge for using your a card.

Our family frequents the area, & attends the Lighting Festival every year. This particular time we stopped in to get pizza after the parade. It took forever to get help to place an order, & when we finally got our food the pizza was wrong. We asked to speak to the owner, & explained our frustration. His response was "Yeah? We're busy." No apology, no offer to remake the pizza, no offer to discount our order. Nothing but attitude. The service was terrible, & the owner was a jerk. We haven't gone back. Now everytime we go to the area we eat at Pizza Planet in St. Croix Falls up the hill. The service is great, & the pizza is awesome! Every time! Save yourself the trouble, & go there instead.

I've been there a few times over the past 3 years for pizza and ice cream. The pizza and ice cream are great. My issue is with the owner's charging $1 per cone when using a credit card. That's about 25% per cone. Banks typically charge 3-4% for credit card service fees. All this does is call out increasing the owner's profit margin and annoying the customers. I don't understand his/her intent, if to just annoy the customers!

We decided to get some ice cream after visiting downtown. Well, there was some cool looking coin machines. One of them had a fortune teller and another one with predicting love partner by gripping a large hand. Afterwards, we sat down to enjoy the ice cream. Unfortunately, this place did not serve pizza but we were planning to have dinner elsewhere. The ice cream was good and I got a root beer float. She had the butter pecan flavor which was my favorite. It's good to know that my fiancée shared my taste of food.

My family and I visited here this past fall during our campout @ Interstate State Park stay. Schoony's is a very nice place with lots of flavors to choose from. It is one of the few places where you can get coconut ice cream (one of my all time favorites and hard to find).I thought their hot food was mediocre @ best - you can get much better food/service next door @ Borders and head over here for the ice cream.

I went for ice cream. The store carries Kemp ice cream. The decor is old style malt shop. The shakes were tasty. Kids would enjoy the stop. Staff were helpful.
