North Saint Paul American Legion Post 39

The bartender Tony does an amazing job and keeps us coming back. I like sitting at the bar and having a few beers with the old fellas. Everybody is mostly friendly. They do bar bingo often and make a helluva club sandwich for a good price.

What a great place! Cheap strong drinks with great brands, fun people...it feels like cheers as soon as you walk in! The grill is just delicious and has all your short order favorites...one tip....belly up to the bar and rub elbows with the best of Saint Paul!

What's a nice girl like me doing in an American Legion? It's the best place to be in North St. Paul so I ask - why wouldn't I be? Pull up a bar stool and chat it up with Cookie and the boys, you'll have an amazing time and they make the best Bloody Mary I've ever had. Pull some tabs, enter the meat raffle, and most of all "Don't be a poop, use the scoop" at the popcorn machine okay? A dear pal of mine was stolen away from me to the midwest by her handsome midwest based man. I forgive him because he buys the drinks and mows his lawn perfectly. I did however, need to visit her asap and so I landed here one night of my travels - perched on a bar stool and roaring at old men's dirty jokes. I was escorted in by regulars. And I don't recommend showing up without one to introduce you around. It's a locals locals LOCALS bar, and while everyone is 100% genuine and friendly, you'd probably feel like an outsider if you just wondered in without pre-approval. Some of the nicest gentlemen and ladies call this place their home away from home. Shout outs to Dan (aka Jimmy) and Brian, plus Andy's Uncle with the shiny ring ;) I'll be back boys! Can't wait to cheers with you all again. Cheap drinks. Private lot, locals only.

Went to the Legion for the Fish Fry. Decent all you can eat Pollock with crunchy batter, baked spuds, great rolls and coleslaw. $9!The fish was good and brought out as soon as it was fried, so it was nice and crunchy. Not greasy at all.The best part of this Post is the ambiance. We sat at a large table after being beckoned by a group of elderly ladies. They ranged in age from 70 to 93. All were widowed and had wonderful backgrounds from farmer's wives, to teachers to factory workers. They all shared stories of their lives and were very proud of their grandchildren. They were there just for the cocktails and dancing. The Eric Thomas Duo was playing and were wonderful. He crooned Sinatra-era classics while blowing muted trumpet, and his partner played a great organ. The dance floor was packed, mostly with widows dancing together. Smiles were everywhere. It was like going back in time. Elderly men, heck men in general were in short supply. I could have danced every song if I had the inclination.Drinks are cheap- $3 cocktails.We will definetely go back- likely this coming Friday. It was classic Americana.

Our neighborhood crew returned this year. We were disappointed by the fish this year. It was overcooked with the texture of leather. Taters and cole slaw were OK. The price also went up to 12 bucks. Lower quality and higher price - good reasons to not go back.

No drink service. Waitress disappeared bar tender would not take orders from people sitting at tables. This was during their Tuesday night bingo. Many tables waiting for service and none being provided. I w not be returning any time soon.

Tony the bartender is not only a hard worker and knows his job. He makes it fun to sit at the bar. I especially love that he is HONEST with his customers.
