Nelson Hotel Bar & Grill

Bad service, mean owner, food is not great. Owner is not friendly, mean to say the least! Doesn't treat the customers like they need to be.

We were looking for a place that served a good fish fry. Ended up at Nelson Hotel Bar & Grill. What a delight. The cod was so fresh and the twice baked potato was great. One might scratch their head at the ambulance but get past it. The owner will treat you right. Amazing value for your dollar. Wish I took some pictures but I didn't.

Had a GREAT dinner tonight at the Nelson Bar & Restaurant!We had the "All you can eat Shrimp" special. (Your choice...broiled or deep fried). The portions they brought out were very generous, and the shrimp were a nice BIG size. All for just $16.95. Best shrimp I've ever had, with an excellent, light & crispy batter. Extra shrimp were also generously brought to our table until we could eat no more. Great waitress, & great service, and the very friendly owner came over for a chat. Highly recommend....I'll definitely be back!

Nice small town feel kinda place. The food is very good, the beer battered jumbo shrimp is awesome!

Ate here twice so far all the food has been terrible. To be fair their shrimp special was ok and their baked potatoes were ok as well. French fries were not any better than if I put plain potatoes in a fry pan at home.The mashed potatoes tasted weird and seemed like they had been sitting out a really long time. I got Alfredo pasta the second time, a salad and soup. The salad was served in a monkey dish and very difficult to eat. The soup was beef potato. There were no potatoes in it just a jumble of veggies all that seemed like they came from cans and the beef was super dry and bad tasting. The crackers that came with it were stale. The pasta although homemade was extremely chewy and the Alfredo sauce was overpowered with garlic. Really wished I chose a different place to eat. The service was good though waitress and other staff was very nice.

We had the most amazing fish basket and home made fries in decades. Fishing buddy and I stopped for lunch hoping to have their shrimp, was told Saturdays is Shrimp day so we opted for their fish basket - it was totally amazing. We both are big eaters and found out that the 3 pieces of jumbo fish, fixed to perfection was way too much to eat along with the best home made French fries ever. This is a hidden jewel along the Mississippi River and deserves to be discovered. Thank you Bette for a great lunch and we will be back soon.

I have been staying at the Nelson Hotel Bar and Grill off and on for years. The rooms above the bar are for the average person...the hunters, the fishermen, the sportsman...not for the individuals who are expecting a room at a 5 star hotel with a chocolate on the pillow. The decor goes with the age of building...share bathroom just as a bed or breakfast would have. When I awake I immediately receive the aroma of freshly brewing coffee. The menu is very diverse and the food is at the highest quality. I have enjoyed everything on the menu.As I have stated...I have stayed at the Nelson Hotel Bar and Grill off and on for years. I have never had any concerns with cleanliness or feeling safe and recommend this establishment to everyone.

We stayed in a hotel room they offer above the bar and we were absolutely shocked at what we walked into. There are 3 rooms and two of them have to share a bathroom. The bathroom honestly was from the 80's and might have never been cleaned it's entire existence. There were no hand towels to wash your hands. The shower mats were garage matt's that never seen a vacuum. We couldn't use the ceiling fan due to all the Cobb webs. There was two open condom wrappers in our waste basket. This hotel is something you would find in a 3rd world country. To top it all off the food in the restaurant was nasty and we only ordered hamburgers and fries. This hotel shouldn't exist.
