Marine General Store

If you haven't checked out the Marine General Store you better do so. They offer excellent baked goods (try the pies!) as well as a BYO fresh sandwich bar. They also offer both 1) daily lunch special and 2) daily soup offering Monday - Friday starting at 11am. Their soups are fantastic! They also offer a variety of local goods/gifts. They post their daily (M-F) lunch specials on their Facebook page. Check them out!

I noticed this quaint, historic General Store on my way to William O' Brien State Park. When I was coming back I swung in to check it out. The gal at the counter was very friendly and inviting. The Marine General Store has groceries, a deli, gifts, kitchenware, camping gear, lots of wants and needs items. I picked up a package of molasses cookies baked in their bakery and a little gift for my daughter. So if you are heading to William O'Brien, stop in and check it out.

I was somewhat surprised there aren't more reviews for this old fashioned yet modern grocery, bakery, deli in the middle of one of Minnesota's most historic area. Bikers, both gas powered and peddled, stop in every weekend during the warmer months.There is a build your own sandwich area in the deli as well as a wide variety of freshly made wiches including some of the best pastrami I've had since a visit to a famous deli in Chicago. Standard groceries a wide variety of soft drinks and hot coffee. Benches in front to gaze and munch and be sure to check out the check out with what may be the original wooden counter restored to pristine shape. Don't worry the modern scanning terminal is in place.

We were in the area and looking for a snack so we stopped in and noticed they had a surprising selection of vegan/vegetarian staples. We found brands like Oatly, Beyond Meat, Just Egg, Daiya, Amy's, etc., plus snacks and chocolate. They also had a kale salad in the deli that was a bit sandy/gritty but otherwise tasty and not overdressed as some are. The produce selection was small but everything looked high quality. We were pleasantly surprised for it being a small store in a rural area. We'll be back!

We stopped in after a hike and had the chicken wild rice soup, delicious! We also bought what turned out to be the best pie I've had since I don't remember when! During Covid (when there was nothing else to do) my husband would drive 40 miles round trip to pick up a pie. That's how amazing their pies are!!! Beautifully old, clean, friendly store! Buy a pie!
