Mallards Bloomington

We had the "Feast of Seven Fishes" coursed meal on Christmas Eve. First time at Mallard's. We were a bit overdressed even on a holiday. The meal consisted of 4 courses. $55 a person without drinks, not bad. Our server, can't recall her name, was an absolute gem. Lovely. The meal:1. Calamari - Tubes were very thin and very chewy. Something about them didn't work because the breading would not stay on them at all. Could see this when the plates were set down on the table. 2. Clam Chowder (white) & shrimp and crab orzo salad. Chowder was very thick but otherwise decent. Salad was tasty but tasted more like smoked fish then it did crab. Also included two prawns. 3. Chilean Sea Bass. Fine but disappointing. Overcooked. Didn't have the buttery, fall apart in your mouth consistency that I've had at other restaurant that I was most looking forward to. Served on a crab cake that was cooked far better and was the star of the show. 4. Tiramisu. GoodWould come back for more casual dinning but wanted to try the coursed meal as a holiday treat.

My wife and I shared the Lobster Roll and Fish'n'Chips. SO GOOD!!Our desert was Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream in top. SO GOOD!!The service was (our waiter) EXCELLENT!!

Decent place to grab a meal. Plenty of parking, prices are reasonable and there always seem to be tables available. Service is hit or miss but generally fine. Food is decent. Nothing super spectacular but quality, freshness and temperature always seem good. Get the loaf of bread to share! It's SO good as are the three dipping options that come with it. There is nothing fancy about this place which is perfectly fine. It's clean and has decent lighting. Booths by the windows are the best. Good variety of food options. Cocktails are so so. You won't break the bank and you'll leave full.

What a great first experience! Service was fast, friendly and good suggestions. The food was amazing! We went at 1pm on a Saturday so they still had brunch and full dinner options- best of both worlds! The kitchen has extra biscuits gravy and bacon that we got for free! They have a reasonably priced kids meal with good portion and fruit cup as well as coloring. The salmon New Orleans was so flavorful and cooked wonderfully. The lobster roll has great crispy fries and even has extra butter for dipping. The French toast was like a dessert, it's pretty sweet for a meal but would be fun to share for The table. There is free underground covered parking. Lots of seating, tables and bar options. Not too busy at all. We'll be back!

Came to Mallard's to celebrate belated birthday for my son in law. They had eaten here once before and loved it. I now love it too. Was very surprised to see that they were not very busy, I think the location is not the best for them kind of off the beaten path. I had the lobster roll and it could be the best one I have ever had, the amount of lobster was surprising, I swear there were 2 full lobsters in it if not more and so buttery and flavorful and they let me substitute cheesy has browns for the fries as I am always a sucker for good cheesy browns. But my fiancé had the fries and they were amazing too, don't know which I liked better. He had the fish po boy and it wasn't really his favorite maybe the sauce was offf for him, he didn't really say. My daughter had the crab benedict and she loved it she is pregnant and not big on spicy food so she asked for the seasoning to not be added I think it was more like a cajun spice. The birthday boy had the mushroom scramble and he loved it, they sure don't skip on mushrooms. A table next to us had the chicken and waffles that looked very tempting too. Our waiter was nice enough but didn't refill our water until we were almost out. Again very surprised with how dead it was on a Sunday at 11:45. They have a kids Santa breakfast coming up, hope it is a success, cute idea. Looks like they have a few locations will for sure give them a try again.

Great location with plenty of parking- major plus for me and friends who came for happy hour. Honestly, after looking over the menu I think the only options for Mallards is happy hour. Everything else seems very expensive and there are several other options in the area for great food at a reasonable cost. Happy hour wise you'll find great deals on drinks and food- but you wont find friendly service. I felt like the bartender was kind of rude, they didn't want to answer any of the questions and we felt more like a burden despite being paying customers. The sliders and fries are good, in fact all of the appetizers we had were tasty and again the price point for HH felt right. If we had better service I would have rated Mallards a 4/5 but the bartender rubbed me the wrong way and we haven't been back sense.

I just love the food at Mallards. Everything I have tried comes out fresh and hot. Most recently I had the jumbo shrimp & grits. The grilled shrimp and creamy, savory grits were so delish I could t stop eating. My hubby has the Jambalaya and he was just as delight. Their cold Ceviche and chips was fresh and some of the best I ever had. The staff in Bloomington is attentive and friendly. We never felt rushed. I have had their lobster Rolls and Korean Meatballs. Again, the food here is Legit!

Ritzy MoA dining experience without having to go outside. This restaurant, attached to the Radison, was a less touristy option for dinner that my dad wanted to check out after walking around MoA. The decor was fairly modern and new fashioned. Glass was a theme. It had beautiful tall wide windows, which unfortunately faced suburban Bloomington. The staff were professional and dressed well. Since my dad was visiting the state for the first time as a tourist, the waiter gave insights on local offerings that would be unique. Cheese curds were somehow missed on the trip, so we got to munch on these in a rather elevated surrounding. While they were crunchy and squeaky, it was an odd experience. The entree of a Yorkshire pudding with a side of creamed Swiss chard was an interesting take on a traditional fare. I wasn't super impressed with the Yorkshire pudding. To be honest I don't have it that often on this side of the pond. It was a bit dry and oily, but I couldn't confidently judge it to a standard. Beef was good, but nothing to write home about. The creamed spinach was very interesting. A bit bitter compared to its spinach namesake, and a bit heavy on the nutmeg. I think it needed more cream sauce, but otherwise I appreciate the novelty on the dish. Service was great and the waiter took the time to explore any questions with dad, especially since one of the beers was out and he found an alternative. If you're staying in for the night and wanted a quieter dining experience than figuring out which shrimps to eat; this is a place for you.
