i'm kind of surprised by the other reviews tbh. i hadn't looked it up or anything, but was hungry late and this place smelled so good i couldn't pass it up. there's a language barrier, but the service was actually really good. everyone was super friendly and obviously eager to make sure we had a good meal.i was bummed that they were out of a couple things for the night but it was late so i can't blame them. what we did get was honestly phenomenal.definitely going again.

I usually try a place a few times before I review it, particularly if I'm going to give a bad review, but I just don't want to go back here, and I can't find an excuse to go back (such as if there were good yelp reviews). Plus there are 2 very good Somali places 1 block north, so why bother again with this restaurant?I got the Moon Chicken, and it was tough and gristly. I've had a very similar dish at a few other Somali places, but where the chicken was very good.If I live in Minneapolis when I'm 65, I promise to give them another try, and update my review.

The place is exactly exactly the three things I love about east African restaurants. Extremely friendly staff & environment, good on the budget, and tasty food. When I've gone, no matter who is working the counter, they are always very non-pretentious, accommodating and super fun to chat with. If you have questions about anything, they are eager to help you out. Service has always been fast, and they seem to truly care about your experience. As far as the food, it's a pretty traditional (read, not yet Americanized) Somali restaurant menu. Federation dishes consisting of both rice and spaghetti noodles, Suqaar, the Mediterranean dishes, Samosas, and beef or chicken sandwiches in a simple bun. If you have eaten American food your whole life (including American Mexican/Asian/Mediterranean), you will probably want to ask for a few extra slices of lime with your dish.Overall, I'm very pleased with Maashaa'allah! I'll definitely be back.

Atmosphere doesn't draw you in, but the food is pretty good. We tried four entrees to takeout for a family get-together. We're relatively new to African food and wanted to try more options. The staff was very helpful with suggestions, but there was a little bit of a language barrier--my apprehension probably didn't help. The BBQ chicken was flavorful and had a nice kick. The rice was delicious and featured golden raisins. We enjoyed the chicken key key, but it's better and cheaper elsewhere. We'll still probably come back for these dishes as takeout.Nothing special about the steak dinners (goat, beef, and chicken). Discovered I don't much like goat. I'm out. The staff suggested the gyro and fries, probably as a gateway dish, but I've heard they don't do gyros as well as other nearby places.

I don't even know where to start, I don't leave reviews but after they messed my order not the first or the 2nd, this is the 3rd time I had to. I ordered beef wrap and every time what they give me is chicken wrap. I don't understand why? The chicken is made cheap ?? The chicken is tasteless. It doesn't taste fresh or something that was made/cooked not even today.Same with the chapati, never get a chapati. It's hard and been sitting for while, doesn't taste at all. Worst food I have ever had, it's going in the trash I could have spend somewhere else where it's made fresh or save my money and trip especially during this cold weather.

The food taste good, that is the only reason I'm coming here. But I can't stand the women that work there, they are lazy and don't know how to do the job. Sometimes they don't pickup the phone, a lot of ppl are in the kitchen talking or doing some other stuff not related to serving customers

Wanted to branch away from the more Americanised Somali places in town, and happened to be passing by this one, so gave it a shot. We ended up getting some chicken curry, keke noodles, and that one sort of stew with celery (I misrecall the name). Nothing was particularly terrible, but all pretty unexciting, though the keke was at least decent. The curry was rather bland, and overall the food just didn't have much character. I've had better at other Somali-community joints in other towns, so it's not just a matter of it being "too foreign" as just rather lackluster. The sign says "African and Mediterranean cuisine", but like in much of Minneapolis that appears to just mean "Somali food and also gyros."
