I really like this store. To be fair, it is very hard to see everything with the clutter. If you need lamp repair parts they probably have it.Great Scandinavian items too. Lots of books and assorted merchandise.Prices were reasonable and you can negotiate a bit.

Walk into this one of a kind antique store is like walking back in time. The Leipold's have been here for over 40 years. He's almost 90 and she's about 82 and they run the shop everyday. A Korean vet this guy has seen a lot of history. The shop has lots of old and unique pieces. If nothing else, you should just stop in and say hi. Located on the main drag in Excelsor-make a trip there and also stop at the Red Bench Bakery for a treat.

While walking down Water Street, I saw a gray cat just chillin' in the middle of the sidewalk. Mr. Cat gazed at me with his huge (hazel?) eyes, then motioned with his head to take a look inside. (Thanks for the tip, Mr. Cat!) And that's how I ended up at Leipold's.I agree with Bailey. If you're claustrophobic, stay away from this establishment. From floor to ceiling, each nook and cranny has random items such as children's books, dated cutlery, vintage Minnesota post cards, international flags, and the like. With that being said, space is tight so be careful as you peruse. Your booty might accidentally knock something over and break it. Then you'll have to pay. That's no fun.The only person I saw working there was an elderly gentleman (owner?) behind the cash register who just gave me a nod - like Mr. Cat - so don't expect anyone to greet and help guide you through. Just pretend that you're on a scavenger hunt, but there isn't anyone to help you. And that's totally okay, since it's such a small place. Other cool tidbits:+If you want to purchase some nostalgic Lake Minnetonka-themed memorabilia, then this is the place.+Did I mention that there's a really cool cat?+It could be more organized. If you're in Excelsior, check it out yourself!

I've know Laverna and Darel for many years. I appreciate the interest, knowledge and love they have for these lake communities. They have been of service and a great help to me many times. They rarely cannot find something I'm interested in and always go the extra mile to answer my requests.

This review is 50 years late, but when I was a young lad these folks would sell things that I found in the woods "on consignment". I remember getting $ .75 once for an old bottle. It must have been when they first opened as I am now 63 years old.

This place has some neat antiques. Not well organized but if you love antiques its worth a stop. I did not necessarily appreciate the customer service though. The elderly couple that own the shop were very condenscending when we inquired if they would come down slightly on an item we felt was overpriced. I go to antique shops all the time and have never had a shop owner have an issue with such a simple inquiry. A yes or no would have sufficed. They lectured us for a good few minutes about how offensive it was that we even asked. The man behind the counter even had the audacity to say "do you ask your doctor for a discount?". Um, I'm sorry sir, asking for a slight price reduction on a picture frame in an antique shop is not the same as asking a doctor for a discount on a MEDICAL procedure. I'm wondering if he went to school for 10 years to learn how to properly price antiques? If so, then I suppose I could understand the comparison.

Going today to see if we can get a mis-matched lampshade and base to work together. Always helpful service. Found parts before, I'm sure I will again. Place is a local treasure! We drive 50 miles for the experience!

This is a fun shop, pure and simple. Owned by a couple it has just about everything, but they primarily specialize in lampshades and doing lamp repairs. They are very good at what they do. They've always been extremely nice. You can find some fun little items like old Hardy Boy books and Nancy Drew to other old books.
