I am an avid mead connoisseur, or at least self-proclaimed. I am in fact, a huge fan of the Odin. In my opinion, it simply embodies the essence of fall. If you enjoy a spiced fall or winter drink this would be my go-to. If a sweet or fruity beverage is to your liking, I recommend the Egyptian or the Black Currant. The Egyptian goes down quite smoothly, and the Black Currant adds a little punch and a new flavor to the mix. If tart is what you prefer, Plum is a great choice, but remember it is more catered to a sipping whine as it can be overbearing after a glass or two. Now a new mead that caught my eye is the blueberry. This mead must absolutely be added to the Renaissance fair as a new regular item. It is now my second favorite tied with the Odin, it is both sweet and tart, though not overly tart. An amazing blend of blueberry and honey. There are over a dozen other flavors as well that they have to offer that you may even enjoy more. You can sample them for free at the brewery before you purchase some. I just got some this week for Christmas break. So why not go enjoy the taste that the Middle Ages have to offer?

We saw an flyer for this place at RenFest. They are open for mead sales every Saturday in October, November, and December. They have about two dozen types of mead that you can sample for free and if you like a mead then fill up your growler. You can buy their growlers, but you save a lot if you bring your own. We filled up six growlers with various meads and we sampled all they had to offer. It's all self service here and it gets busy. Politeness goes a long way here. Be friendly and courteous. They have plenty of mead. You can't go wrong here.

Excellent mead at very good prices. Bring your own growler for 20% off. They had about 18 different kinds while we were there and they were all very good. It's really hard to find a good mead and J Bird's are to shelf with different flavors and amount of sweetness. Wonderful people and a nice setup. We will definitely be back.

This place is a real gem! It's hard to find decent mead but J. Bird has the best! They have a few boothes at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival in Shakopee so if you've had it there, you know how good it is. They have different seasonal flavors, too!

My former boyfriend introduced me to mead at RenFest last year. I can't tolerate tannins in most wines but this is excellent, the right amount of sweetness. They have a wonderful variety of flavors. I can't be bothered to drive to Maplewood to see whatshisface anymore but I will drive clear to Stanchfield to get this mead!

So tasty. So friendly. I won't buy my alcohol anywhere else. The staff is so helpful. There is no wine that taste better than theirs in my opinion. I drove 2 hours because this place has such quality wine and service. You won't be disappointed. The place is a hole in the wall mom and pop place but dont let aesthetics fool you, this place is fantastic if you love sweet wines!

I tried this mead at the Renaissance Festival this year. Mead is my favorite wine and I have tried many different kinds. J Bird makes the absolutely best mead I have ever had. It is sweet but not cloying. There are many different flavors to choose from including Egypt'n, Cottage, Mint and many fruit selections. They are all great, although the Mint is not my favorite. Make sure to try Forest Fruits, Cherry and Cottage. This mead is currently only sold at the company winery which is about an hour north of the Cities. It is priced at a 20% discount at this location when purchased in bulk. It is well worth the drive! You can bring your own bottles/jars/containers or they will sell you plastic ones. We brought Mason jars but darker jars are recommended. You fill them up yourself and get to try all the different flavors. Bring enough containers!!! It is difficult to not get some of each flavor. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The shop is set up so you can try each kind of mead prior to buying. Great business and really nice place to visit.
