4 years ago my 71-year-old Mom moved from her home of 50 years to an independent living senior facility at 1910 Graham Ave. We were overjoyed at the community and amenities the owners Kelley Bothers offered and we thought she had found her next real "home". She was allowed to choose paint colors, the rent was affordable and the whole place had a very friendly home-like feel to it. She was very happy there. Last year the building was sold to Oppidan with Ebenezer as the property management company. It's like a nightmare. They raised her rent $120 a month and went from a yearly lease to month to month with the option to raise the rent any time they like. They are forcing her to move out of her apartment to temporary housing that doesn't even have a telephone so they can "renovate" and put in a lot of changes that she didn't ask for and doesn't want. All the while pretending like they are doing her some kind of favor. They refused to let her keep her wall colors, she has to be without telephone or internet for at least 3 weeks while still paying for the service, she has to pack up all her belongings and to access her car she has to walk to the garage which will be 2 buildings away from her. I warn anyone in the area that has an elderly relative to avoid facilities owned and managed by these people, they are heartless. My Mom was perfectly happy with her living situation the way it was and the only reason they are doing this is for the almighty dollar.

The Highlands of St. Paul is a fantastic community! Great owners, management, staff and residents. From the moment you walk into the building you feel welcomed. They offer a range in housing options from Senior Living to Memory Care. The staff is caring and compassionate and I would highly reccomend the Highlands of St. Paul to those looking for a great senior living community.

I contacted The Highlands from Ohio while trying to get information for family members living in Mpls. I spoke with Margi who was very reassuring and helpful. We set up a tour and was guided by Diana who was very friendly and patient. She answered all our questions and encouraged us to contact them any time with questions and concerns. I have done that already several times and they both have been very kind. My family members that are wanting to move in were impressed and are looking forward to living there. This whole process is new to me and very overwhelming and confusing. They are both very knowledgeable and calm and made me feel comfortable. The facility is beautiful. It is well maintained and everyone we encountered on our tour was friendly. They offer so much and all the residents that we saw appeared happy and were enjoying themselves. Thanks to both of them and all the staff we encountered. Hoping to see you again soon.Jean O'Ryan

My dad has been at the Highlands for almost 3 months. It was an EXTREMELY difficult decision to have my dad move from his home of over 45 years. I have constantly been impressed with the truly heartfelt care he has received. People are consistently in a good mood and and concentrate on the positive. I believe Joe, the director, sets the tone. He has high expectations, and is an encouragement to the people working. I'm amazed at how EVERY worker greets my dad by name and will ask him a question or make a comment that shows they truly know my dad. The Highlands is both very clean and extremely "warm" environment!
