Hickory Hut

WOW, I was pleasantly surprised with the wings and hojos. This place was nostalgic for my boyfriend as his dad used to bring these wings to him as a child but they were at a different restaurant (shorty n wags). I believe they are closed so he's been on the hunt to find ones identical to those ones and these were exactly that. Staff was welcoming and helpful but nothing over the top. Inside is a little small but enough room to sit down and eat if you'd like. The dry rub on the wings was very flavorful with a sweet and spicy flavor. The hojos and wings were cooked to perfection. These thinly sliced potatoes are in between a potato chip and scalp potatoes and they were seasoned very well. We also got a side of the Mac n cheese and honestly I'd skip it in the future. It lacked flavor and tasted like cardboard so it was a hard no for me. It filled my boyfriend's craving of those nostalgic wings he had as a child. Besides the Mac, I would rate the food a solid 5/5 and will definitely be back.

I loved these wings and seasoned rice since they first opened on lake st in south Minneapolis back in the 90's. Top five favorite chicken joint in Minnesota.

Best wings anywhere, ever. Plus, the best wings anywhere, ever. Rice is wonderful, hojos are great, and the best wings anywhere, ever. I always intend to try other menu items, the BBQ looks good, but always end up with the wings. Because they are the best wings anywhere ever. They offer sauce, but it's a crime to cover the taste of the best wings anywhere ever.

My union bargaining AFSME order food from this company and it was $100.00. I ordered a catfish dinner, and it came back looking and tasting like Tilapia. The portion size was smaller than a kid's meal. It wasn't even a scope serving size of red beans and rice. The French Fries tasted like they were seasoned with cinnamon. I couldn't take the food back because our hospital was in union voting. Tried to call and speak with Michelle the manager and she was nonchalant stating that was two days ago. Once again no one could leave. I'll never shop here again. They need cooking classes one on one. It must be an up north thing because most of the food is garbage. Even popeyes is trash up here. Famous Dave's taste better than this place!!! Just food for thought. I gave a review on Google also. I hated giving a one star.

This place is TRASH!!!!!! the french fries were not done all the way through the coleslaw smells rotten and looks like soup the chicken is not tasty. I'm not a hater I have no time to write negative reviews about peoples food on yelp but if I can save at least one person from trying this place I consider this time well spent. P.S. Places like this are social proof that if you have a food business you want to do just go do it because somehow these people are in business and can pay rent and their employees with absolute garbage quality food.

Great little hole in the wall. I have been going here for years and the chicken wings are always outstanding. They have a unique dry rub and have a variety of sauces on the side. There is a whole menu available, but I have never strayed from the wings. The service is friendly and the restaurant is clean. A great staple to the Frogtown neighborhood!

Was not impressed with the food. Service was ok but when my food came it was cold. I would say the atmosphere was better than what they offer. I would not come back only if I'm really hungry and want to just eat something.

I've gone here for over 20years, will not go back. The wings we're small, dry and greasy. And the price has gotten ridiculous, Tuesday and Thursday wing specials $25. They no longer offer any specials and you now pay $40. Not at all worth it

Not a cozy, sit down joint though you can...but if you want hot, spicy wings with an excellent range of sauces, Hickory Hut hits the spot. Nice range of your basic soul food sides (tend to be partial to the spiced, buttered rice or the hojos).Parking is a little tricky so advise you putting in your order ahead of time so you can park, walk in and get on your way.

Food was good but the location sucks. No parking at all. There was a guy following me in until I went inside and multiple people came in. Looks like no one wants to eat inside. Everyone ordered take out. The food wasn't ready on time but other than that, it was okay. Not sure if we would come back.
