Haiku Japanese Bistro

How have I not yet written about Haiku! ? I've been coming to this sweet little Japanese restaurant for over 8 years. They have some of the very best sushi in the Midwest. The staff is prompt and attentive. This evening it was busy, so the sushi chef himself acknowledged, seated me then took my drink order. My go-to order is onion soup and the special Royan Pink sushi roll. It's wrapped in pink soy paper, filled with lobster tempura, spicy snow crab and avocado. spicy mayo and eel sauce drizzled on top. It's just outstanding. Give this place a try the next time you on the east side of the metro.

It seems that the service curse we experienced a few years ago has been lifted. We've had a male waiter, lately, and it's been just fine.The sushi remains the best you can get here, and the fried rice is a perfect accompaniment. We also get the gyoza each time. They used to have kaki fry on the menu, but it's no longer available.We've had a variety of sushi each time we have gone, and have no complaints. For this visit, we had: Haiku Roll and the Dancing Tuna Roll. Both were as delicious as expected. We share half of each roll we order so that no one feels left out.When you order the fried rice, also get the Shrimp Sauce. It is a beautiful sauce that adds another depth to the flavors in the fried rice. Our waiter was attentive and friendly.

Great customer service, we got our food pretty fast and the environment was amazing! Would definitely come back soon!

We had 3 different rolls Crunchy, shrimp tempura and sweet potato rolls. All were fantastic, the crunchy roll comes with double shrimp which was really nice. We also ordered the veggie giozas and a side of fried rice. The side of fried rice they said is good for one person (it costs like 4 dollars) but I shared it with my boyfriend and we both felt satisfied with the serving size in addition to the 3 rolls we ordered. I've been here a few other times and appreciate the consistency in the quality of the food! The service is good. I'm actually not sure if we are supposed to seat ourselves or if you wait at the host stand to be seated. I've done both. Service can be a little slow but all staff is friendly and receptive to eye contact if you need your bill. This place has a VERY family friendly vibe. You can come here on a date or family dinner.

Food: 1/3 starsSunomono had a strong fishy taste like it was old and the salad below was not dressed. Felt like eating plain greens with old fish on top. It looked great though.Hibachi Chicken didn't have any sear from the griddle and was sauced. It felt like I was eating chicken and vegetables in garlic sauce at a Chinese restaurant. The sauce made it quite a bit more salty so the use of the yum yum sauce was moot. The two pieces of shrimp that comes with it was over cooked.Asian Tiger Roll and Eel Cucumber roll were pretty average. Felt like the fish could be fresher.Service: 1/1The hostess/server was very nice and attentive. She even made the kids beverage super fun!Decoration/atmosphere: 1/1Place was very clean and looked nice. Serving plates were clean and sushi came on a heart shaped plate.Overall: the place is pretty average without anything standing out. Food is fine, not great.

Just meh. Didnt blow me away. The raw fish could have been more fresh. Servers were nice though

my go to place for sushi. i've been been here at least 25-30 times over the last couple years, and have never gotten any bad sushi. the rolls are all delicious, but my favorite has to be the spicy girl. there's a little bit of heat, but not enough to overpower the fish. the haiku roll is also a must have.i've always gotten take out, so i can't comment on the service. but whenever, i go to pick up, the restaurant has always looked clean and the staff has been friendly.

This is a hidden gem for sushi, quality is excellent and pricing is fair. Lots of options for the non sushi eater as well. Only complaint is that the waitress needs help as she was rushing all over.I will for sure come back and suggest anyone give it a try.

Amazing the staff is wonderful and the food is to die for!! Better than Benihana or Osaka in my opinion!

This place is quietly tucked back at the end of a strip mall. We love going here. The food is always fantastic and we have never had any complaints. Every roll we have ordered has been great. Our favorite is the Spicy Girl Roll. We have only had the sushi every time we have been here, but it has always been very good and the staff is very friendly. We may venture out and try the hibachi next time.
