Very helpful in selecting the right cheese. A good variety of choices. Mostly local MN and WI. Prices are reasonable for what you get. Excellent food safely handling practices. My new go to for specialty cheeses. Next time I try the sausages!

My favorite food is cheese.I enjoy almost any kind of cheese except Kraft singles and this really stanky cheese I bought in the Zurich airport during a layover in 2005.Grass Roots Gourmet sells GOOD cheese. It's all local to Minnesota and Wisconsin, which I love. We live in cheese country, after all... why buy French brie when ours is even creamier?I bought the makings of a fancy cheese plate to bring to a party here and found everything I needed. The guy helped me pick out a variety of things that would pair well with apples, plums, grapes (from the Produce Exchange) and this yummy garlic pepper jam from Grass Roots. He set me up with some samples and all of his recommendations were perfect. We had this rich brie, creamy Gorgonzola, tangy Monah (hard and sharp like Parmesan) and unique stinging nettle Gouda. The first three were excellent with fruit and the Gouda was a total stand alone. They have all kinds of flavored Gouda, and this one was a winner (nettle tastes like it has a touch of onion/garlic to it). I had avoided this place in the past because I thought the prices would be outrageous, but the prices were surprisingly low for the quality. You could easily spend the same amount on cheese at Trader Joe's, honestly. And even though the selection is small, it's not limited. Other than cheese, they have all sorts of local meats, jams, honey and things of that grocery nature. The deli meat is the only thing that isn't local (Boarshead). I usually go for the garlic pepper jam whenever I stop by. Tip: -They validate parking, just like the other businesses in the Midtown Global Market.

Cheese aficionados and local food lovers unite...Grassroots Gourmet has got'chu!Located within the Midtown Global Market, this quaint fromagerie sources all of its cheese from Minnesota and Wisconsin so you can feel good about supporting the local economy every time you indulge! Lucky for me, Vicki was working so I was able to get pairing recommendations and samples! (Note: While you're there, try the meade--promise me.) Her extensive cheese knowledge blew me away! Exhibit A: A woman came in looking for a cheese to serve with Asian cuisine she was making for a dinner party. While this inquiry may stump the average foodie, Vicki suggested a Tandoori cheese. I didn't even realize that existed. (I have so much to learn!) To sum it all up, I highly recommend bookmarking this place if you have any loving feelings towards cheese!

Love. love, love this shop! I get the best, local and fresh foods here. My favorite part here is the cheese shop. I always recommend to people in line that they order the gourmet white cheddar cheese Prairie Breeze from a farm in Wisconsin. The cheese has these crystals that melt in your mouth. I like to have a simple night snack with eggplant or red pepper spread and a slice of this on a cracker. It is also yummy in a summer salad with apples and fig dressing.

Cheeses galore. Love the fact that everything is local. Fresh, responsible, yummy choices. Lots of them. Super nice staff, who even willing to serve us before they were officially open. We came on a Sunday, and a handful of vendors were already open. Grass roots was due to open within the hour, but still setting up shop. We just couldn't wait (on our way to a target field tour) and they were more than happy to help us anyway. Nice.Besides the obvious offerings, after all, you can't miss all that cheese! There was also a variety of small batch bottled sodas that we had not seen before. Our group tried a few to go, and we were not disappointed. Definitely worth a trip to the Midtown Global Market if you are looking for something unique or planning a wine and cheese get together.
