El Hornito

Any time I'm headed north from Minneapolis I make sure to stop by and grab some pastries and a couple pounds of their chicharron. The place recently remodeled to add a bunch more space for the restaurant and it feels much more open. The staff has always been great and, if able, are happy to speak english. It definitely helps if you know the basics, though since it's 99% a spanish-speaking joint.The pastries are always flavorful and fresh. I love their orange blossom and anise sesame buns, pan de feria, and conchas. The chicharrones are always on the deli counter and you grab your own with some tongs. Tons of meat on them and a few minutes in the air fryer make the meat tender and the skin crispy. Haven't tried their hot bar or restaurant yet but I hope to soon.

I love a hole in the wall place and had high hopes for El Hornito. Maybe I caught them in a bad day. The staff was friendly enough and the food came out in a timely manner, but I was a little disappointed with the quality.I ordered a couple of carnitas tacos with rice and beans to go. The rice and beans were great, but the meat...now I like it a little crispy, but this was more like it was scraped from the bottom of the pan. The meat was really greasy, burnt, and there was a large bone in one of the tacos. Like I said, perhaps it was an off day, but it was a little off putting. Maybe I'd try again if I'm in the area.

Stopped by to visit their market next door and wanted to try the restaurant side. Waking in it has the familiar feel of one of my California hometown Mexican eateries. Fresh waters, horchata and a menu to kill for with Mexican delicacies.I judge all Mexican restaurants by three things, beans, tortillas and meat specifically asada and carnitas. I ordered a carnitas burrito and asada taco and wow the food was delicious. I paired my food by the classic coke in the bottle an Ensenada trip favorite and messaged my friends immediately I had found a place to come back to! It's in a strip mall, has no beer or wine but had incredible food and definitely is a non Minnesotan establishment :)

Came here for lunch with the family. The food is OK - it lacks flavor and the meat is dry. However, service was fast and the owners seem nice. Truthfully we enjoyed the baked goods next door better than the food here

Delicious! Had carnitas burrito (amazing!!!), and a chicken tamale and pork tamale. The pork tamale was a bit spicy (cayenne pepper or hot paprika maybe?) and nicely balanced. Chicken tamale not spicy and flavorful. Love the green sauce. The carnitas recipe must be homemade. Will be returning! I hope they have gluten free items for smother family member. And hope to try the flan next time.

So on my quest for good tacos in my area Yelp led me to El Hornitos so I decided to try it. I ordered five tacos one steak one shrimp two carnitas one pastor I'm currently waiting on this order as I type this so since I got it to go I'll let you know my take on the food later in this review. As for the restaurant itself its fairly clean and the young lady who took my order was friendly enough I guess I wasn't wowed but she wasn't rude either. Being as I'm a African American male in a obvious authentic Mexican spot I feel ok..wait getting a little long now though...so after getting the tacos home and eating them here's my take.. I wasn't wowed I've had better and I ve had worse these tacos all seem to be missing something the shrimp was just ok the asada was just a bit better it had a nice smoky charred flavor the pastor was meh at best and the carnitas was dry not enough flavor at all while this place isn't la hacienda ( the best) it's not El pariso (the worst) either

Not recommend at all. The food is horrible, not fresh. The service is faster because they just re-cooked all the meat.

Never ordering from here ever again. Order the nacho fries Al pastor bearly to no meat at all for $9.99. Tamales were cold and all. Waste of my money. I rather have Taco Bell than to ever eat here again in my life. For anyone looking for Mexican food this place is not it.

Today my wife and I visited this restaurant. The lady attending the ordering cash drawer and also the person taking the order for the food got very upset because we were asking her questions regarding the menu. Each time I asked a question she said I don't know then walked away went to the back and came back with an answer. Again we asked A question regarding the menu and she said, I don't know then went to the back with out saying anything then she disappeared. The owner of the restaurant and also the owner of the grocery store came out and told us that the restaurant was closed in a very rude manner. I approached the owner and I asked if something had happen and he Called me " Imprudent" meaning Stupid. I was shocked to hear those words coming from the owner of the store. I then asked him, why would he say such a thing and again said you're imprudent person just for asking. I then apologized to the owner and thanked him for his time, I also said, have a good day I hope it gets better for you. I then turned around feeling scared that the owner would attack me and still not knowing what was going on or why would he treat a customer in such a way. I hope they can address their problems and work on people skills especially being the owner of the restaurant. The good thing about this, it's all on camera. I would never come back to this place "It's Very Unsafe to shop at the place and they like to attack customers.

My friend and I were doing work on the other building adjacent to this one. I saw the sign for Mexican Grill and Bakery and had to have lunch. Let's just say it was so good... I went back the next day as well. The street tacos were very good and the prices are very fair. I had chorizo tacos and a chicken quesadilla while my friend had a carnitas burrito. All of the food was incredible. My friend and so we're excited to be working there the next day as well and went back for seconds and we got different tacos and they were just as good. The staff was very friendly and the service was excellent and very fast. Would recommend to anyone. I love how the salsas come in the squeeze bottle it makes it so much nicer and convenient. I'll definitely be back with my friends. Until then it's a 5 star for me
