Dakota County Library - Wescott

I'm just starting to experience all the many services Libraries currently offer (beyond book lending). I attended a training class for 3D printing. The instructor, Matt, was very knowledgeable and helpful. In class, we used a modeling software package to make a design. Matt is going to look at our designs and make adjustments and suggestions prior to printing. You can reserve a 3D printer for up to 4 hours. I can't wait to print my design. I'm looking to create some custom earrings. I also attended a Fix-it-Clinic. It was packed! I didn't have time to wait for suggestions on the repair of a speaker but I hope to attend the next clinic or check out another library. Lots of people getting sewing repairs, lamps, appliances, etc repaired by many knowledgeable repairers. Libraries offer so many free services. It's worth applying to their newsletters and checking out a future event.

Pros: They have a nice collection of books for people of all ages.The staff is extremely helpful and accommodating.It's clean and spacious with lots of tables for studying.The closed study rooms are also a blessing.PC setup is awesome.Printing and scanning facility is available. Cons:I wish they could enforce some rules as the general public has forgotten the basics of a library. We have to silence our phones, keep our voices at 0 and not take personal phone calls! I have witnessed people make doctor appointments and discuss family issues over the phone. I understand it's hard to control kids but, if your kid is someone who doesn't understand that library is not a place to cry, throw a tantrum and yell at the top of your lungs then don't bring them or leave the premises immediately with them if they engage in this behaviour. There are people who are trying to study or read and require peace and quiet. Sometimes, in the study rooms people are so loud that you can hear them through the walls. I agree that it is a public place and we should be tolerant but at the same time we need to learn some basic etiquettes of a library.

Visited Wescott this morning for the first time to bring my 2yr old son to their story time group. He loved it! They also have a fun children's area that could have easily entertained my son for hours. We signed up for a library card; the staff was friendly and offered info on how to get the most out of our visit. We will definitely be back regularly, even if just for the story groups.

Excellent library with an extremely helpful staff. Saturday's is ideal for young children and the numerous special events they host to inspire the next generation of readers.

This is a nice little library. The staff are friendly and helpful. Its a bit small and disorganized and they charge for new DVD rentals.
