Located on the first floor of the Dakota County Western Service Center, the Dakota County Library (Galaxie branch) on the south side of the county service center. Due to Covid restrictions, there are less activities being offered but I did not inquire about the iLab that is there. There is a "Calming Room" for autistic people, which is very inclusive and needed. I'm glad that the DCL includes this service.

After the renovation, this library has improved tremendously. They have a lot of amenities that weren't there before like an ilab, scanners, printers, DVD player rentals, phone chargers. And the astrology theme going on is very aesthetically pleasing. They changed the outline of the entire library, like the study rooms are now in the back. There's a return rental/book check out right near the front. Even the lobby area has a big comfy couch and high tables for waiting for a ride. They changed the hours as well, it opens at 9am and closes at 8pm on Monday thru Thursday. Weekends have shorter hours. They close for every major holiday. The back area is great for studying, everyone is very quiet and studious. They have individual rooms to study in as well but the lights in the room are motion sensors and the lights keep shutting off quickly by themselves. Those private rooms are really hard to get since they're all occupied. The other side of the library is built mostly for meetings and homework help. There's a small law library on the far end of the library also. They have an atrium type of study space which is perfect because you sit in a room which has a lot of desks, and watching other people study motivates you as well. It's called the quiet zone and is absolutely quiet, not even a pin drop, perfect for serious studying without any distractions. The people who study here are courteous to not even whisper. The chairs in there can be a bit uncomfortable but that's only if you're there for a long time. There's only one librarian here, a middle aged Russian woman who really knows her stuff when it comes to electronics, she's very well informed and helpful.

Love to use this library for studying! The study rooms are wonderful... and a hot commodity! If you aren't lucky enough to get a private room the "quite room" is also nice

I have to laugh at the other review that said this library was "like a zoo." That's so ridiculous. I've been going to the Galaxie Library for years and I've never had a bad experience. Even though it is a busy place it is typically quiet. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Great library system with great service. I was so pleased with the level of service we received when we stopped in this weekend looking for books to help my son with his school project on Blackbeard (the pirate).

Love this library. Many knowledgeable librarians. Every time I come in and don't have a book in mind I can usually find a librarian who can make some very good suggestions. If I ever have trouble finding a book or information of some kind, I can usually find someone to help me.

Want to give kudos to Rob Tousdale who I was referred to for a legal document that I needed, regarding property transfer within family, on death of owner. Rob was very professional, and friendly, and efficient. He did not make me feel rushed, and explained the form I needed, and the process that would take place, if we used this form. And explained why it was important to have this form completed, for the benefit of our heirs. I felt I was getting sound legal advice at no charge to me. His office is conveniently located in the Dakota County government center in Apple Valley . Jim & Judy Lakeville, Mn

this place is a freakin zoo!!!!!! its filled with homeless and people who think its more of a cafe than an actual library...i went here for almost 4 months, studying for my boards and every single day u will find someone who has actual phone conversations or plays music on their phone and puts it on speaker, im not joking..its ridiculous...the whole thing sounds like ur at a busy grocery store than an actual quiet library which is what its supposed to be..the librarians are pussies they don't do anything about the noise, the kids are different, but even adults they don't control...theres a quiet area in the back which is point less...the only thing the librarians actually control are food and drinks they're literally strict nazis when it comes to bringing in food an drink so much so they took away many garbage cans around the place no joke...theres a few quite study rooms isolated in the very front which are pretty good, but they fill up very fast so try to get there soon...good luck getting any serious work done at this place hmph!p.s. in the school year its filled with tutors and students and they come in from 4pm onwards till close and yak loudly the entire time and theres a law "advisor" who thinks that corner is her own personal gossip corner, shes always on the phone!!
