Their parking lot and entrance is off Stinson. GPS will probably direct you to their back alley.

I'm torn about this establishment. They have a great selection of glazes and tools for all your clay needs, but one of the workers makes it especially uncomfortable to visit. I overheard Annie, who I presume is an owner in this company, complain and tell the retail workers she would beat them for not cleaning up the front end. I don't think she knew anyone was in the store, but oh boy, I was. Her behavior to the younger staff was appalling and I don't think I'll recommend this establishment to anyone I like. Maybe the people I don't like, but that would still be a mortal sin. Prices are okay I guess.

I'm a total pottery newb. Last time I had to the opportunity to "throw clay" was with play-doh at my brother 30 years ago. But now I have access to a wheel and kiln, so I'm gonna give it a shot! I went to Continental Clay to get some clay (duh) and a pottery starter tool kit. GPS will incorrectly lead you down the back alley of the building, but you should go to their front parking lot and entrance off Stinson (see my photo). I made that mistake and awkwardly entered through their big back warehouse. When I was directed to the actual storefront, I asked some questions and probably sounded like a doofus, but the nice young woman fetched me exactly what I needed. I got 25lbs of red clay, and starter tool kit, and an extra big sponge. The clay was just $19, which was competitive if not less than what I've seen at other places. But the tool kit + sponge was $28, and I saw a similar kit on amazon for like $11. But I'll certainly be back to support local, and the in-person assistance was invaluable.

Worst service! Husband purchased new kiln $$$$ for his studio in the SAME building as Continental Clay. It's been a huge disappointment as it was delivered in a box outside his studio, no assistance for assembly offered which he would have gladly paid for. Very rude staff who evidently don't care if they have his business or not.

I have been buying clay and pottery supplies here for YEARS and they have great stuff. Be sure to follow your GPS if you're unfamiliar with their location, as you enter from a one way street to their parking lot. Once you drive there one time, you'll see what I mean.Inside, it's what you would expect in a storefront selling clay and pottery making supplies: friendly people experienced in clay arts, a beautiful display of pieces donated by potters (great inspiration!), sample tiles of glazes and a fairly large area with all manner of tools and pottery accessories for wheel thrown and hand building. I think if you want to order a large item like an electric kiln or wheel, they can hook you up, too.I have ordered large amounts of clay over the phone and upon arriving it is ready. I just pulled my SUV to the loading dock where staff helped me load it in. I have bought small amounts of various clay bodies, tools, powdered glaze and their products are all excellent quality. I take class at a local art center that carries their clay bodies-again, all excellent quality.

The people behind the counter are so helpful and full of knowledge. Numerous times I've needed technical help with both my kilns and a pug-mill. I was guided through steps to fix on the phone. It was as if he was standing right there with me. Two thumbs up! Great product and quality of service!

Melissa F.'s review really is not a fair assessment of Continental Clay's products and service. Had her husband wanted help setting up his new kiln, he would have needed to arrange for that when he purchased the kiln. The kiln, and the service, are two different transactions.I have worked with Continental staff since 1993 for my own ceramic materials, kiln parts, etc. I have also ordered from them for colleges and art centers I've taught at. They (family and non-family staff) really work to offer a broad range of products for potters and sculptors of all levels. They also offer helpful troubleshooting by phone or in-person, and they stand by their products. If there's a problem, a kind inquiry is met with a thoughtful investigation and response.
