The bbq was delicious (we especially liked the beef, goat, turkey, burnt ends, and brisket), all the brunch items were fresh (french toast, muffins, biscuits and gravy), there were made to order omelets, all the sides/fixings were tasty (coleslaw, burnt end potato salad, strawberry salad, grits), fresh fruit, pastries, and cheese were all lovely extras to add on! The adults all had cocktails and enjoyed them - there were a variety including bloody Marys, old fashioneds, mimosas, and coffee cocktails. We'll definitely be back!"

We've been here about half a dozen times now.The service is spectacular! Wow! We were immediately charmed by our waitress: great smile, peppy attitude, and attentive service! The food -- delicious and priced just right! The coffee has that rustic diner taste to it that brings a nostalgic aroma. They have very reasonably priced breakfast and lunch plates. My husband loves the Build Your Own Breakfast (BYOB) and I absolutely enjoy the Stuffed French Toast. It's their French toast made into a sandwich with egg, cheese & sausage and served with hash browns. The sweet and savory combination is to die for!If you are making your way up north on HWY 55, make a pit stop at Peg's! You won't be disappointed!"

One of the few places in town I don't need to request extra cheese on my pizza because it is perfectly cheesy on its own. We usually do the sausage pizza as the sausage they use is delicious with lots of flavor. Always request their "rockstar spices" which give the pizza a nice little flavor boost! Dining in will take you right back to the good old days when pizza places had that old wood panel 80s vibes to their restaurants. Please never change!! Easy parking in the lot out front."

Service was quick and friendly. I had the prime rib special which I thought was delicious and tasty. Huge baked potato and a wonderful salad. The babyback ribs looked good (didn't get a chance to try) and the elusive liver and onions were good according to my dinner mate who ate it! Sarna's hits that niche where you can go for a burger and beer or a nice "classic" meal - think fish, meatloaf, prime rib (weekends only), etc. They have a Sunday brunch that I bet is delicious - can't wait to check it out!"

I honestly barely noticed because the smell of yummy foods hit me as soon as I got inside. I think they do most of their business as take-out or pick up, but we actually took advantage of the small dining area attached. The service is nothing fancy- order at the counter and they'll bring it to you. But ya'll- the food! It was really some of the best Mediterranean food I have had since moving to the cities. That hummus -as the kids say- SLAPS! It had a little spicy topping on it and they served it with warm pita breads. I ordered a gyros platter and it came with enough rice to feed a crowd! Even the salad was delicious. I told my husband right away- this is 5 stars."

Mia M. "The Dirty Bird is the sandwich that converted me to a Banh Appetit truther.I had previously just found Banh Appetit to be okay, back when I was vegetarian--I had tried the grilled tofu sandwich which I felt was just fine compared to other tofu banh mi that I'd had before. However, I recently tried the Dirty Bird (hot chicken) sandwich for the first time and I've been absolutely HOOKED since then.It has a really aromatic and flavorful five spice(?) seasoning, and it IS hot--but the perfect amount of spice that actually enhances the other flavors rather than just drowning them out. The fries are always crispy and on point too, and you just cannot beat the price of their combo deal--the combo of the Dirty Bird, fries, and a can of soda is a steal at $11.74. This is the go-to place of pretty much everyone I know who went to the U, and for good reason. There's a little covered parking lot at the corner of 13th and 5th that has designated free spaces for patrons of the JJ's/KFT/Banh Appetit/etc strip, which I only just found out about recently which absolutely rocks too! One of the absolute best places to get a cheap and delicious bite on the East Bank."

J.R C. "Updated review; Unfortunately my past experiences were just that. In the past. I Ordered a pan pizza and cheesy bread sticks. Sounded like a nice lazy Saturday summer lunch!! But Upon opening the box of bread sticks they were dark brown and as hard as a rock. Clearly they had cooked before and reheated in the oven. They weren't even edible. The taste was as if the oven hadn't been properly cleaned in a very long time. When opening the pizza the toppings were a mess and the crust was barley even cooked. A mess of water was underneath the pizza! I could only have one piece due to it tasting like a dirty oven and they amount of greasy water. The mushrooms tasted like they came from a can and the sausage was hard on the top. Not sure how this pizza went so wrong.... I love pizza and can usually handle a little grease but this was crazy. I won't be ordering here again. Which is a bummer since it's a local restaurant and close to my house. Seriously.... What a dang bummer!!! I hate leaving negative reviews. I mention this because I have been in there once, and from what I recall, dining in is not an option. One bite, everybody knows the rules. 8.9. The crust is crisp throughout and not a soggy mess like some other places that are popular in town. The amount of cheese I am torn on. Some places in St. Paul are like all cheese on paper thin crust. "There should be a pre-COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 reviews...in before COVID-19 existed times, this place I would easily give 4 stars...now I wonder of their sanitation and merits to keep customers safe. The food was good. I got some tamales de' pollo (chicken tamales) and tacos al pastor and a small side of queso fundido. The queso was great, and the taco's filling more than plentiful, cooked and seasoned beautifully! I enjoyed the tamal como es un tamal mexicano americano...de pollo (a chicken mexican tamal) with a red sauce and some melty white cheese. Good. Maybe enough to satisfy a tamal craving...and yet not enough. My real gripes are with the sanitary lack of restrictions during COVID-19. Many servers, and I saw cooks in the back of house (aka kitchen) also had masks that only covered their mouths or chin...unless they have no nose or no mouth that breathes out, I do not understand how they think this will prevent the spread of the disease, and thus are contributing to it. I will not go to an establishment in which such a simple precaution is not unanimously enforced."

Kedar D. "Mandalay Kitchen is a friendly and spectacular Burmese spot in St. Paul with a focus on dishes from the Kayin state in southeastern Burma. It earns a rare 5-star review from me.The food is exquisite---beautifully presented, wonderfully seasoned and with a wide variety of textures. They also label their vegetarian dishes, most of which are vegan by default. The Yangon samosa ($9) is a light and simple samosa, with a thin and crispy wrapper filled with lightly cooked potatoes and peas. Compared to an Indian/Punjabi samosa, it's less starchy and bready. The bayar kyaw ($8) is described as Burmese falafel and it tasted superb. It was more moist and savory than a Middle Eastern falafel and had a brightness to it that I loved. The lahpet thoke (tea leaf salad) ($13) is vegan by default and the best I've had in the United States. While Burma Superstar in San Francisco popularized this dish, Mandalay Kitchen's rendition is much better: it's savory, crispy, addictive and has a new surprise in every bite. The Yum nam khao tod ($12) can be made vegan and is a crispy rice salad with a variety of herbs. I loved this dish and, by coincidence, had had a much less interesting version at a different restaurant in St. Paul one day earlier. Mandalay's version blew the other one out of the water.Lastly, the Thai red curry ($14) can be made vegan and was good. It didn't wow me, but it was respectable. Next time I'll get the kabocha squash Burmese curry. The service was friendly and though the restaurant was understaffed, the food came within a reasonable time (we were warned about delays) and was still prepared with care and delicacy.Stop by Mandalay Kitchen for something special."

Ginellis Pizza

Ginellis Pizza

★★★★☆ 4.2 (44) • $

Daniel S. "Ginellis Pizza served us our last meal of the Minneapolis vacation. After hours hiking along the Mississippi River shoreline parks and through the skyscraper canyons of downtown, the clock was ticking before we had to be at the airport. My brother and I were in the mood for a relatively fast and tasty last meal on Minnesota soil (at least in the near future). At this juncture in my Minneapolis reviews I will pass on that downtown Minneapolis is lacking in national fast food chains with the exception of Subway, Potbelly, and a couple other establishments. However, downtown Minneapolis isn't lacking in Yelp reviews. So, we went onto Yelp which led us to the highly rated Ginellis Pizza. Little did we know that when we looked it up near where the locater has it across from IDS Center that we'd gain a lot more footsteps and loose more time. Finding this place was the equivalent of a geocoaching hunt in downtown. In the zenith of the rush hour traffic, we walked up and down 8th Street. Then Marquette Street. Then 7th Street. We still could not find it. By the time we were were unsuccessful finding it in the IDS Center I thought to myself that this would make a great commercial for the place if it really exists. We'd enter one building then try one skyway to have to go onto another. If the clock was ticking fast to making the airport, it was supersonic fast making it by closing time. Finally with a capital "F" we found this restaurant on the skyway level of 821 South 7th Street which truly was closer to 2nd Avenue. With the search over and Ginellis still open we were greeted to a large skyway level Eatery that was brightly lit and held a plentitude of tables that gave the plentitude of pizza in the appetizing display a run for the money. And speaking of run for the money, my money did not run far because their prices are exceptionally reasonable. For less than $10, I brought two slices of the Supreme pizza at $3.25 each and a bottomless soda for $1.50. The pizza was made to order. It turns out that there was a little bit more walking to do. There is a want for a restroom. While they were making the pizza, we walked across the skyway level of 821 South 7th Street where a friendly security guard escorted us to a restroom in the office wing. Back in the skyway storefront of Ginellis it was time to rest my overworked feet and work my mouth and taste buds. They really enjoyed the two generous sized New York style Supreme pizza slices. Born and raised in Metropolitan New York, Ginellis serves some delicious pizza. It can understand why it has been serving Minneapolis for around 30 years and they have developed a following to the degree of selling Ginellis shirts. I can also understand why I went on an Easter egg hunt in downtown Minneapolis trying to find a 4 Star Pizzaria. Along with the pizza was a courteous attitude. If the hours were correct, they did not hurry us to leave at the same time that they made fresh pizza for my brother and I. Trust me, if my brother and I would of known about Ginellis Pizza before the last day, there would have been more than one check-in here. If I have given you my trust, I will put it to good use by wrapping up this review with the simplest directions to Ginnelis Pizza. Here it is:1. Inside the IDS Center go up the escalator to the skyway level. 2. Head south on the skyway over Marquette. 3. Keep right and head to the skyway across 8th Street. 4. Turn left and head south in the 821 South 8th Street Building. 5. Ginellis will be on the right near 2nd Avenue. 6. Live in the moment and enjoy every bite of this delicious New York style pizza."
