American Refugee Committee

A great organization based in Minneapolis with global locations where staff and volunteers serve refugee populations in practical ways, like funding community development, clean water and food, local entrepreneurial efforts, and many other projects. They have fundraising events in the United States. Last year's Changemakers Ball at the Armory in downtown Minneapolis was a huge, high-production event including dinner, bar service, desserts, music, and presentations with lots of energy and informative speeches and multimedia showing the organization's work around the world.
