I decided to write a review for this campground because there were none when I was looking prior to my trip there. I really struggled with the rating to give this place - it was "fine" - but there were a few things that stuck out to me. The seasonal sites are all over the campground and many seem to have quite interesting campers. Many were very old and had a lot of old garage-type stuff in the yard. The arrangement for many of the sites seemed a bit strange too - we were placed in a section that was supposed to have 5 sites, yet there were only 2 tables and 1 fire ring. I'm hoping no one ever has to share a fire with strangers! Also, there is a gate at the entrance, which is a nice security feature I suppose, but the code changes daily so if you leave you need to stop by each day for an updated code. The lake is small but quaint. The swimming beach had course sand/dirt with many rocks, so it's not the type you'd relax on in the sun. Overall we had a fair experience, and the people were ok, but I'll probably check out another place next time.

Very nice people checked us in, there was nobody else there aside from the permanent people who are on the outside, closest to the woods and who were very quiet and drove around in their little golf carts. The bathroom was clean, my sister-in-law actually met the lady who cleaned it, we were the only ones using it. Our kids loved the fishing dock, they "almost" caught a lot of fish. The check in desk had bags of ice, ice cream treats, candy, a nice little limited general store. The campsites were more dirt than grass but I still always felt right in the middle of nature.

Nothing but problems. I reserved (and was charged) a full hook up site online only to find myself in a dusty sand trap with only electric. The roads were horrible, with pot holes the size of vehicles. The office smelled horrible and the attendant came out in pajamas. By the first hour it was obvious the seasonal campers ruled the roost as they sped through our campsite on their golf carts, which lasted well into the morning hours. Nothing but a swing set for the kids. Do not waste your weekend on this over priced dump!

Mostly permanent campers. Electricity went out twice the first night. I had a pull through but had to back up in order to get out of the site. There was no way to pull through as there was a large tree in the way. The dirt roads are very narrow and the trees need trimmed. I won't return.

We needed a quick weekend camping trip to test out the repairs done on our camper before a long trip so we picked this place. They had openings and it was a short drive. Mistake.I had asked for a more private spot because our dogs tend to attract a lot of attention. They put us at the end where two roads met. All weekend we had golf carts driving by staring at "Marmaduke" and making comments about saddles. The site right across the road was empty all weekend and much more secluded. It was difficult to determine where the sites were. If it hadn't been for an employee driving by when I set up I wouldn't have known where my site was since the numbers weren't visible and the separation of sites was unclear. I had to help campers who arrived later find their campsites based on where I was and what numbers they were looking for.It wouldn't have been too bad if that's all that was wrong. It rained. We had gone into town to get some firewood since they cut their wood at AJ Acres seconds before you buy it and it won't burn. On the way back it was raining pretty hard and we had to drive through the campground on roads that had waterfalls. Our campsite had about 3" of water sitting in it.The seasonal campers - looks like some of them live there fulltime. Kind of trashy. Most of them let their dogs run loose so they come out to see our dogs when we walk them by on leash.Bathrooms - nasty. I'm glad they had two showers because one of them had a dirty tampon in the corner. The other one was just slightly better.

I have been a seasonal camper at AJ Acres for about 7 years. Absolutely love this place and the owner. Everyone is super friendly and down to earth. We go almost every weekend in the summer. They have dances a few weekends of the year for everyone and have Halloween for the kids. This is a rustic campground with beautiful huge bur oaks everywhere and the lake is a small very clean lake which we use all the time. Also, has great bass fishing! I think most people that post just must be the ones that want to bitch about everything!! Love my AJ Acres!

I found this place to be very trashy. The seasonal sites are run down and full of trash. The place is all dirt roads and over grown making it very hard to drive around. I didn't feel safe here, like backwoods type people. When we were there they were riding snowmobiles across the beach water and yes, some sunk. DUMB! When we first pulled it to our site we were fine and it was sort of a pull through site, so we could just pull out to the right when we were ready to leave. The guy who guided us to our site was about ready to run water lines to our camper, BUT then the owner showed up and had a grand idea to position us horizontally in a vertical site. DUMB! It resulted in our 5th wheel jack knifing in to our back window and busting. The ordeal was very frustrating and lasted about an hour while all the backwoods people stood around drinking and watching! We left immediately after the damage and definitely will not be back. UPDATE 6/2013They showed no signs of responsibility at the time or when we sent them a bill for the window replacement. They refused to pay the bill, yet asked me to delete this review and threatened to sue me if I didn't. They were not willing to negotiate, so why should I? Especially when Minnesota is an anti-SLAPP state (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation).

This was not a good experience. I would not recommend this to anyone with young kids. The campsites are all dirt, no grass. There are kids playgrounds. There are numerous year round campers that overrun the place. The bathrooms were not cleaned all weekend and they're pretty gross. The picnic tables are rotted and falling apart. But the worst thing is the noise and drunkenness. The weekend we were there one of the permanent sites had a full stage and rock show with speakers, amps, mic stands, laser light show. They started about 8pm and went until past 1230am both Friday and Saturday nights, belting out songs and karaoke as everyone got more and more drunk. It was like you were trying to camp right next to a roadhouse that had an outdoor rock show going all night long. We tried calling all night long to the office but no one ever answered. The next day we called the office and the managers said they drove through and made rounds at 1030p and everything was quiet. This was not true. As the nights got later and later, there were more and more drunk regulars driving around and yelling in their golf carts so no one in our tent or camper got any sleep. This place was horrible.

The website shows this amazing campground with all these activities for families, however when you get there it's a dump with non maintained sites, junk and old appliances laying around and an abandoned building with broken windows and glass everywhere which I assuming was their once advertised rec center. Beach is small and weedy but water looks clear by the shore. Overall not a place I would bring my kids back to and probably not a place I would come back to myself considering the condition and the price is a bit steep for what they have to offer which is pretty much nothing.

Showed up on a Friday night two weeks ago for our reserved site. Couldn't find our site as they were not numbered well. Our neighbor had their vehicle parked in our spot; luckily they were there otherwise we would have waited a long time. The site would have maybe worked for a pop-up sized camper; not our 30' 5th wheel. Uneven dirt sites, had to try to level one side with three boards under tires. Then to find out the electrical was to the front of the site and could not reach. If the lady at the desk would have sent us in the other way, maybe we could have pulled in differently. Decided it wasn't worth to even turn it around and reset as our slide out would have been on top of the neighbor's awning! Called it quits and headed towards a rest area near North Dakota. Do not stay here even for a night unless you are looking to do some heavy partying, enjoy golf carts zooming around all the time (parked in the middle of the road), kids out running around, etc. Don't even care that I am out $42. I did not want to even try to sleep there.
