Cool vibe to this place, built in a historic fire house tucked away in the West Seventh neighborhood in St. Paul. Enjoyed their in-house brewed beer, but their Braised Short Rib stole the show--It was the perfect, delicious comfort food on a very cold, snowy evening. Our server was excellent, and fun. I would definitely return.Sidenote: I was a mail carrier in the West Seventh neighborhood for the postal service when I was a lad.I digress ... I hate when people bash service or whine about service fees ... Really gets under my skin. If you have complaints, address them in person, when you are there, and do it with respect. You have no idea how hard this business is ... and absolutely no idea whether they are understaffed because someone didn't show up to work ... and your shitty opinion can sink a new business faster than (basically) anonymous criticism will help it improve. Do better, be better, even if you are a cheapskate.

A-Side was recommend to us for our party of 8 by someone in the group who had been before. With high praise and honestly everyone in the TC going I was excited to check it out. It has taking over the old fire station which leaves a pretty cool space behind. They've definitely decorated in a simple hip style that makes you really comfortable. We went on a Saturday night around 630 with a reservation with is key. While waiting for our table they turned people away unless they were willing to wait an hour or more. With how long the wait way my anticipation was growing. Personally I don't feel like our server did a great job. It took a really long time to be able to place our order. We started with the Fritas and they were good, perfect for sharing. The wings were also a table favorite and you got a decent amount. Unfortunately my food and my husband's meals were wrong. The kitchen/waitress realized mine before it came out. I waited about ten minutes before my burger finally came out. My husband ended up removing the toppings we asked them to leave off. The waitress did appear apologetic about both items and mentioned wanting to give us a discount, which seemed fine. When it came time for the check they had forgotten, huge deal? No. Biggest issue with the checks is they weren't split right. At this point I feel like we had already been there for two hours... it was started to feel like it was dragging on. Once we paid the waiter came back over and apologized for forgetting and gave us a $5 or $10 (unclear) gift card to come back. On one hand that was super nice, on the other hand I'm not totally convinced I'll come back. My food wasn't great, for another and fries it was lacking flavor and the fries were super crunchy. Unfortunately for me but fortunately for the others I was with they seemed to enjoy their food.I'm torn on recommending this place at the moment. Maybe when some of the hype dies down.

I love the exposed brick and natural wood here! It feels bright and airy. We split the festive salad (a fav of mine!). I had the Aisle burger which has the making of all your favorite things--bacon, gorgonzola, a cherry aioli. Honestly I could just use a bit more topping! My partner had the braised short rib--a tender, great portion, that just needed a touch of salt! The standout from our evening was our server who answered many questions and sent over a complimentary Requin Marteau cocktail for us to try. It was bourbon-y with a touch of that blueberry sweetness. Honestly 10/10 and will likely return just for that drink!

Loved our dinner! We had the Valentine's Day special which was grilled shrimp and steak. Reasonably priced. Great place for a more upscale but still fairly casual date night. Street parking. Very friendly service. Dinner took a little longer to get to the table but it was Valentine's Day so to be expected.

After failing to get a table for bunch at another St. Paul restaurant, my friend suggested we go here. A-Side is a cool concept in a former firehouse. Very industrial. I love that in the warmer months they open up the doors to let the natural air in.Again we went for brunch. They were busy but we were able to be seated right away. I got a Dutch baby (pancake), hash browns and the Teddy Graham Latte. Food was great. Our waiter was also the bartender/barista but they were very attentive. I seen that they do igloo dining for a limited time during the holiday season. I'm looking forward to going back for that experience possibly.

I have now been here twice and both times were great! I love the outdoor tables, they all have great shade. The second time I went I sat indoors which was also nice because it was near the open garage doors so there was a nice breeze. The first time I went I sat outdoors and it was weekday so the service was fast! The second time it was on the weekend so the service was a bit slower but the waitress was sweet. The burger was so good, I got both times!!

Went to A-Side for the first time yesterday and LOVED it! It is in a converted firehouse and in nice weather they open the garage doors so you get to enjoy the breeze while being out of the sun. They also have a patio as well. Overall this place has a terrific ambiance. The menu isn't big but has a great range of choices including some tasty appetizers. We started with a couple of very well-crafted cocktails and the charcuterie board which was one of the best I've had in a while. Beautiful cheeses, quality fruits, nuts, and jams. It also included some French Saucisson, smoked salmon and a wonderful pate. We also ordered their side of French bread which was good as well and came with a whipped rosemary-sea salt butter. We then decided to share the French Onion Steak Sandwich with fries. The beef was incredible! Very flavorful and tender, plenty of cheese and fresh greens too on a soft roll. Definitely a knife and fork sandwich however.Between the atmosphere, great service and well-prepared quality food this was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it!

Great options for brunch! I love the biscuits and gravy and the cold press. Also a cool atmosphere (in an old fire station) and a free parking lot on the side.

I have eaten here several times, always in the afternoon. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Today i had the curried vegetable dumplings. They aren't really dumplings--that's not a criticism, just an observation. They were divine. Really marvelous. They were, by far, the best thing i have eaten in the last year, if not longer. The rest of my meal was great, too, including the wine.

Both the food and the service are pretty average. I had high hopes about this place so I made reservations for brunch. After we ordered our food & drinks, we didn't have to wait long before our drinks were brought to us. My coffee was lukewarm, not sure if the cup had been poured and left to sit out a bit or if the coffee I received was sitting in their carafe all morning. In any case, it wasn't very good. Then our food arrived, everything looked good but the side order of breakfast sausage was cold. That definitely must have been sitting in the window for a while. I let the server know about it and she brought us a different order of sausage that was somewhat warm. As for the taste? Bland, bland, bland! Like no seasoning whatsoever...just basically a patty of ground pork. Pretty disappointing. Also, our server never asked us how anything was. The rest of our meal was pretty good but with such mid food and service, I won't be coming back here. Three stars.
