The good: really yummy chicken shawarma. Good baba ganoush that I bought as an extra side. The bad: we ordered two expensive chicken shawarma plates partly because they had one side with them. We both ordered tabouli and we did not get any. Just a lot of rice and chicken that needed something else like tabouli with it to be a meal. No garlic paste comes with the chicken shawarma plate it turns out--or we did not get any for some reason. I thought it came with the plate; it said you could order "extra" garlic sauce as a side which is partly what made me expect it would come with the plate, also that it usually does at most restaurants led me to expect that. So I was disappointed paying almost $20 for a plate because I was supposed to get a side and neither my husband nor I got that side despite both ordering plates. There was a ton of rice and chicken and nothing green on the plate and no garlic paste. Pretty disappointing. will I try it again? still trying to decide. the chicken and baba g were good, but it's risky to pay almost $20 for a plate and then not get any side or any garlic paste with the chicken and rice and the two pickles. did they run out? If so, I wish I would have known so I could have NOT ordered a plate. Why pay a lot more for a ton of chicken and rice with nothing else and no garlic sauce? even though the chicken was good I feel kind of gross now after eating this weird meal with nothing green on the plate and no explanation for why we are not getting our sides that were the big reason to order a plate and not a bowl or something smaller. Kind of a rip off. Do they run out of stuff at dinner time? Maybe. either way it is not good to pay for the most expensive thing and get a weird different version that has a lot of two things and nothing of the third thing there is supposed to be.

Sahara is my all-time favorite Middle Eastern restaurant! I have been eating at the original Sahara for the past 6:00 or 7 years now and always loved the food there, the only problem is they are located in El cajon rancho San Diego area which is quite a long drive from where I live. I was thrilled when I learned a year or two ago that Sahara was opening this location on Adams avenue located inside of the heights market, a really nice upscale liquor store next door to Jyote bihunga vegetarian (another excellent restaurant).Anyway, tonight I decided to call in an order to go for my favorite, chicken shawarma plate with hummus and it includes rice, pita bread pickled vegetables and garlic sauce! Garlic sauce is often an extra item at other Middle Eastern restaurants I've tried. Not so here! The food, amazing! The chicken shawarma is very tender, mostly white meat that pretty much melts in your mouth. Very flavorful and I also added a chicken tikka kabob which is so flavorful and tender, the chicken literally melts in my mouth. I am so glad they opened this location on Adams avenue, if you are craving Middle Eastern food, don't hesitate to try this or the original Sahara locations!

Was in the mood for Gyro and this came up on DoorDash and had good rating here on Yelp. The meat was very good. Good size portions. They clearly knew how to spice and serve the Gyro and Chicken meat. Fast service.

This is a great takeout spot. Their gyro is probably my favorite that I've had in San Diego. I definitely prefer it on the pita, but the wrap is good too. Meat wasn't dry/overcooked and all the veggies tasted fresh. They also really pack a lot in there and I love that they don't skimp on the tzatziki sauce. Their flatbreads are also great- so much larger than I expected. The beef shawarma was delicious on it.They also have a variety of salads and sides like hummus, beet salad, and tabouli. Next visit I'm probably going to try one of their bowls or loaded fries. Prices are good for the portions, it's quick and easy.

I came for the Tabouli, at a mere $3.00 per serving; I was curious, Tabouli normally goes for ten times that much. Neither Alladin or Ali Baba make a better Tabouli or Baba Ghanoush than Sahara currently does. Surprisingly so since they are not Lebanaese. The Lebanese of course are known throughout the Arab world as the top-of-the-line best cuisine of them all, with Morroco coming in at a distant second.Unfortunately somewhat difficult parking but not impossible.Friendly staff, and very clean. The ingredients are fresh, outdoor seating ONLY. I look forward to returning. They have a wide extensive menu and the stuffed grape leaves are the best I've had in many months. I don't know about the rest of the extensive menu as this was only my first visit, Insha'Allah there will be many more.

Loved this market before it became a restaurant as well, the staff is friendly and the selection is really fun and not expensive either. I've eaten here a few times, tried the Bowls, salads, sides, and them mega loaded Gyro fries one drunken night. All delicious. Food is to-go only and there's a self-serve sauce station. Hit me with that garlic sauce. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the Bowl seems petite-sized to me. I got a salad with chicken tikka added and it is much more food / bang for your buck. For sides i absolutely adore the Greek pasta salad as well as the baba ghanoush.

Food here is reasonably priced and yummy. I normally stick to the bowls at Sahara's. I've had the chicken tikka bowl before and the cream chop bowl today. I think I do prefer the chicken tikka as it's slightly healthier, but the cream chop is really good too if you like fried cutlet. It comes with rice, salad, and a few slices of pita. I've also had the Sahara salad in the past, and it's really good as well. This location is inside of a convenience/liquor store, so there's no seating available inside, but there are a few small tables outside. The market has a really wide selection of beverages and candy. We grabbed 2 La Croix from the fridge to enjoy with our meal.

Sahara has always been a local favorite in Rancho San Diego. I am certain they will be a local favorite in Normal Heights with their delicious eats and friendly customer service. They have several great lunch specials, including the chicken tika wrap I purchased for $8.95, plus $2.95 for a side of hummus and sliced pita bread. The marinaded chicken tika is grilled over an open flame, as a result, you not only get the flavor from the delicious marinade but the flame grill itself. In addition to the great flavor, the chicken was very tender, and the garlic aioli sauce was outstanding with the chicken and lettuce and tomatoes. That being said, I did feel that the wrap needed more ingredients inside. It was very loose. Some yellow basmatic rice inside would of been very nice. They offer food made to order and refrigerated ready meals to go as well. For example, salads, wraps, sandwiches, bowls, and desserts. They are located inside of Height's Market, but do not let that fool you, because they are a full blown restaurant with outside seating. Service is very good.
