Sushi was fresh and tasty; staff were very kind and sweet; cozy, comforting ambiance. I've been to yoshi a couple times and the raw fish is always fresh. Today, I went all out for the uni, salmon, scallop, and toro nigiri. The rice was consistently well prepared and I consumed each one with a little soy sauce. uni: generously portioned, creamy, strongly savory with a slight saltiness and mild oceanic tastesalmon: rich, melt-in-your mouth, lightly sweet, not too fishyscallop: sweet (sweeter than salmon) and butterytoro: rich, melt-in-your-mouth (slightly less oily than salmon), slight umamiMy friends and I stayed past closing but the staff were super nice and welcoming regardless. The little Japanese style cookies with the check is always a nice touch. Note: Sunday dinner time was not difficult to get a table, but it's always good to call ahead to reserve since it's a small restaurant with not a ton of seating and service can be a little slow (took about half an hour or so to get our food).

This place and the couple that own it are near and dear to my heart. This restaurant opened when I was in college and I have been eating here ever since. I always ordered the Ten Zaru Soba, so frequent that the owner was surprised when I ordered something else. Many years later, with a wife and kid, this place is still my favorite restaurant in Elk Grove, maybe even Sacramento. I can afford to splurge just a little bit more than before, so my favorites are the Negi Toro Don and the Chirashi bowl. The quality of fish for the price is superb, and the customer service is the best. They really make you feel at home in the tiny space provided. I wish this restaurant and the owners nothing but success and happiness.

Amazing hole in the wall Japanese restaurant with genuine Japanese service where you feel like you're back in Japan. They bow and politely service you throughout. It's a mom and pop shop so it can take a bit for your order to arrive but the food is amazing. The tonkatsu curry was my favorite as the tonkatsu itself has a tender interior and a very crispy and flaky exterior. The buta bara don also has amazingly delicious pork mixed with egg. Very filling and juicy. We also really liked the ankimo (monkfish liver) which is very smooth like a pate where most other places don't quite have the same smooth buttery texture. Enjoyed all of the dishes here. Wish I lived closer!

Yoshi in Elk Grove nails the authentic izakaya vibe. The quirky decor, attentive, friendly and honest staff, and homey atmosphere make it feel like a slice of Japan. The food is fantastic. Top-quality sashimi and hearty Japanese kitchen dishes that pair perfectly with sake, beer, or tea. I love getting the charashi bowl which is worth every dollar for size and quality and the udon really feels home made. When it's busy, there's always a wait, but their time estimates are spot on, whether for dine-in or takeout. Out of all the izakaya-style spots in Sacramento County, Yoshi stands above the rest. Support this local gem for a truly authentic and delicious experience. 5/5!

Small quaint sushi place ran by actual Japanese! Delicious and usually fresh fish. Very nice and friendly staff. We love coming here as we feel the sushi is above par with other Sac/EG area sushi restaurants.

This is the most authentic Japanese restaurant experience I even had since coming back from my Japan trip! Not just that the server, the chef and customer spoke Japanese, but the decor and hour of operation is so Japanese lol! Of course, the food was amazing! very fresh and super hot bowl of donburi. The food is even better that many of the restaurants at Japantown SF. I never seen the pork belly don anywhere except in Japan when I tried the grilled pork belly over rice... and the true.. this restaurant has recreated the flavor that I ate in Japan. This is a real hidden gem! And yes, they can be slow in service but this is a very small restaurant where the owner and staff are enjoying their life making food w/out the stress and seeing customers enjoying their food! The sashimi and the toro rolls were just very fresh, is it the best? No, but it's very good comparing the price you are paying. All I can say is super FRESH and your mouth and wallet will appreciated it!

Located in the Walgreens plaza towards the back, this is definitely a hidden gem in Elk Grove. I would have never thought we would have an awesome Japanese restaurant close by. But we do! This is a small mom and pops restaurant. So food does take a bit long, but it's definitely worth the wait.Every worker that I've encountered here is so friendly! We usually order various nigiri's and their Japanese curry. All of which is very good. They give you a generous portion of fish for the nigiri. Other places I've been to, cut the fish so thin, you can see through it haha. Not here! If you're in the area looking for some authentic Japanese food, stop by Yoshi! Oh, be aware that it's a bit small inside, so seating is limited. Also check their hours and they close in between lunch and dinner.

What a nice find! An amazing little Japanese restaurant that really has the home cooked feel! The service was extremely nice and friendly. The food was sooooo good. And the prices were very reasonable. We mainly came here bc my niece really wanted to try soba noodles. And she loved her first experience. And we all walked away with a new go to! Everything we ordered was delicious! I only wish they were open later sometimes. Will for sure be back again!

Best authentic Japanese restaurant in Elk Grove! It was so good I kept asking spouse when we can go back (we rarely go to that side of the town).Food and atmosphere super authentic and cute! The food is like nothing you can compare else where.Using the sushi rice bowl as example. Fresh scallops with that thin slice of lemon before the salmon! Nobody does that in town here! And that ginger on the fish on the right! Omg so authentic and good! Fish is fresh of course, but the flavor profile they take to consider the dish. Omg I almost forgot! Those mushroom! It's like so good! I never had mushroom in sushi bowl like this but it is just so good! And this is take out! Look at that beautiful presentation! The grilled ika (squid) is so good I wanted to pair with a beer (yep it was lunch time). And the chicken katsu with curry sauce! Packed separately so the katsu won't be soggy! And the tape they use to secure the lid so it won't be a struggle (which is like everytime else where!).All that preparation alone is 5 stars! The people in store are so nice and polite too! Wished we come earlier and now every time we come that side we will surely return! Thanks for the great lunch chef!

My friend just came back from Japan and recommended this spot for dinner, and omg, what a gem! This locally owned restaurant is an intimate hole in the wall serving up some of the best Japanese food I've had in the States! we got:Veggie tempura: $8.50- the batter was amazingly light! Chirashi with miso soup: $27- loaded with sashimiChicken katsu curry rice: $17- really generous portion with dark curry that was super savory! Katsu was perfectly fried. Saba nigiri (2 pieces): $4.50- really great size for the price! Sake nigiri (4 pieces): $11- SO buttery and soft, I could eat 15 pieces. Slices were nice and thick! Unagi nigiri (4 pieces): $15- had the perfect amount of unagi sauce!TMT Roll: $18.50- like I said, the spicy tuna actually had a kick! Great fish to rice ratio. Would 100% come back, this is such a gem! The wait is a little long because they're so small, but honestly it's worth it! I came at opening for dinner (5 pm) and was there for an hour and a half.Lots of parking!
