I've visited the Yemaso gyms in Idaho and Reno, but I had never yet been to the HQ location in Sacramento. What a great morning! The only 5 AM clas I've ever been to in my life. And it made it super easy to get to work on time without missing breakfast or a shower! The mats were perfectly clean. The bathrooms were perfectly clean. But the technique was the cleanest of all! Crisp, clean, safe, effective technique. We worked standup, which I'm always grateful for. And I got some solid adjustments to both my arm drag and my Russian tie up.Perfect way to start the day. If you're looking for a place to train and think you can't make it work with your schedule----you're wrong! Check them out!

Good: Kids are supported. It's firm, bug not demeaning. Their work with the kids teaches them perseverance and work ethics.Bad:They don't cancel automatic payments. They don't respond to multiple emails. They don't respond to multiple phone calls.Perhaps they should apply that perseverance and work ethic to customer service.

I took my son for his first free jiu jitsu lesson and was appalled at his treatment of the children. Marcos chastised and yelled at a number of kids, even going so far as to grab one kid's arm and drag him. Also, I guess the fact that there was no visible clock for the teacher to track time with was everyone else's problem as he yelled about that too.I thought I was being punked when he had all the kids line up and wait at their water bottles before he tells all the kids they are allowed to drink, like dogs balancing a treat on their nose. For my son's first session, he was shamed for not being able to tie his belt to Marcos' standards, criticized for showing emotion on his face, and publicly scolded for shrugging his shoulders at the great Marcos. The cherry on top was after the lesson, Marcos decided to tell my wife that his introductory class wasn't in fact free, but was ten dollars. When he informed her that he didn't have change for her twenty, she was told there was a gas station close by and to "figure it out."

****Traveling StudentI** I reached out to Professor Marcos and asked if I can drop in and train. He quickly welcomed. I was really impressed by the gym culture everyone was so helpful. Professor has cultivated a great gym culture, which not always easy to find. If you're a beginner or a advanced competitor this is thee spot to train in the Sac area. His instruction focuses on the individual's strength's and weaknesses and will work to develop you. He will work with your injuries so you can stay on the mats safely. Thank you for the hospitality and having me. It was a great pleasure to meet and train with you and your team Professor Marcos. Ossa!5/5

Visiting student. This place was a phenomenal gym and training experience. Welcomed me with open arms. The instruction was detailed and nuanced, providing me with more information than anything I'd ever received. If I lived in Sacramento, this would be my gym. Thanks for letting me train with you!

5 stars for sure! Stopped in to train while I was in town for work. I have been training for over ten years and have been to a lot schools and I was very impressed with school. Marcos is extremely knowledgeable, and will take time to teach to your level of you are a white belt or black belt. The school is full of skilled guys, great welcoming vibe, and you will get great training with no one trying to injure you. If I lived in the area this would be my school, and will for sure be stopping by in the future.Thank you Marcos!!

I recently popped in to Yemaso BJJ to train. I'd been following Professor Torregrosa on social media and knew he was legit, but I was delighted to discover how welcoming everyone at his academy was. His students I rolled with were all great to train with, and I left the academy without injury.I will be back to train whenever I'm in the area and definitely recommend Yemaso BJJ for anyone looking to learn BJJ.

I've only taken 3 classes so far at Yemaso BJJ but from what I've seen so far this is an awesome place to train. It's clean, inviting, and Marcos it's great. He's a professional that knows his craft and elicits respect from all students by first treating all who attend his gym with the same respect. I appreciate that as a new white belt I was not just thrown into the mix with the more experienced students and instead got hands on instruction on the basics. Will definitely be continuing my training here!

I was lucky enough to find a $40 sale for a month on Groupon. I learned a decent a amount, but I wouldn't recommend this spot for any adult trying out BJJ for the first time. I'm not sure what this "warm welcome" is that others are saying. Professor Marcus is definitely super knowledgeable and can teach, but he's, well, cold? He's not especially mean, but I definitely wouldn't say he's nice. It's one of the reasons why I decided not to stick with this dojo, along with financial/personal reasons. I also find this slightly ironic, since the Groupon is "valid only for new students". And apparently, the Groupon is "for a month", but that means specifically 27 days. I used my voucher on Nov 24th (Thursday), and because I didn't a Gi yet, I just watched. 4 weeks later (December 23rd, Thursday), I decided it would be my last day. I got there, said hi to Marcos, put on my Gi, then Marcos told me I either had to pay $15 for drop-in or get another subscription (I already told him about my situation that Monday). While I understand how pointless it is to teach someone who's about to leave and making profit, I'm not sure if that justifies anyone being cold. It really gave off a "You're a client first, student second" vibe. I enjoyed working with the rest of the team though. Too bad I never got to say a proper goodbye.A beginner will only have access to four 1-hour classes at the most. If you come 3-4 days a week, you'll most likely spend 1-3 weeks learning drills depending on your athleticism. Specifically, 1 week on warm-ups and 1-2 on The Big Four. Then, you get thrown in whatever the class is learning. From what I heard, it usually takes at least 3 months for beginners to start sparing (they're called "advanced classes" for a reason). That might be something to keep in mind, as sparing (even light sparing) tends to be my favorite part when it comes to learning martial arts. I don't regret it ($40 is a good deal), and it wasn't boring. But, I also wouldn't say it was particularly fun.Basically, come here if you expect to commit to BJJ and enter competitions, and you'll get your money's worth. If you're looking to simply try it out, I would recommend otherwise: I've heard that there are other dojos that offer free drop-ins with rental gis provided. I'm sure Yemaso gets tired of having to teach beginners who never stick as well. Thanks Yemaso, but y'all just weren't my vibe.
