Growing up within the City of West Sacramento I've had the opportunity to see this community grow. The Community Center is just what this community needed. From Blues in the Black box, Wild in West Sacramento Art Show, to King of Sac break dancing competition, I've had the chance to enjoy many diverse events! This establishment has something for everyone!

Active Aging is part of the West Sacramento Community Center. It could be great but its just so/so because, for starters, the newsletter is always late. I never received it in the mail, ever, after signing up for it. I never got it electronically sent to me either, after signing up for it. The special events are uninspired and if they get a decent trip or event they limit it to 7, SEVEN people. Consider it a red letter day if you ever get to the senior lounge and there is actually coffee or clean cups or fill in the blanks. People who are not from West Sac at all are regular "guests" who spend hours there and no one says a word. People under the required age, show up as well with everyone's blessing. There ARE a few friendly people there but for the most part the room has cliques that love to exclude others. For reasons known to no one, there are 3 or four people "in charge" but only one person is visible. The ones in the background are doing something, I am sure, but not for the seniors. We lost our bus ride on Wednesdays to the center and our twice monthly trips to go food shopping. Why not fire one of the VIPs and actually do something that actually helps us? The day old pastries are free, they never make enough coffee and we have to use little packs of bad for you powdered creamer. So the town basically has a few classes paid for by the seniors in the form of donations. And a tv set. We need new leadership, we need new blood both behind the scenes and on the spot. We need people who actually want to improve things for seniors, not just take up space and maintain the boring and lackluster status quo. Shame on the Mayor and his minions for given seniors a second rate Active Aging Program and worthless leaders. Maybe the seniors need to unite and take the protest to City Hall?

I went here to watch Avenue Q. IT was a surprise for me that it was directly across from the library. It is a new facility that was pretty nice. I am glad they had an elevator because I injured my leg the day before. The place seemed huge and I would definitely want to try out other stuff here. I like how there was free wifi =)

I feel like the cripple in the Bible who couldn't get to the pool in time after the angel stirred the water! NO DECENT PARKING FOR SENIORS WHO DRIVE!!! Oh, lots of activities but who pushed to recharge vehicles? That whole outside wall of the library is reserved for the upper crust -- the upscale and fortunate!!!! And who put library short-term parking where I could walk from? Probably the able-bodied employees are grabbing the absurdly limited spots. This damned town needs a lot more compassion, but it seems nobody gives a fig! I will not plead for a handicap rating! I am over 80 and a veteran. I used to love the knitting group. . . .
