I hate saying anything bad, and I'm not trying to talk trash, just the truth.I joined in the hopes of have access to gym equipment but to be closer to home and avoid the yuckiness of the larger corporate gyms. My first problem:I could not get a hold of anyone. Ever.I tried calling four times. I left two voice mails. I emailed them. And I never got a reply.I actually got super annoyed the I tried contacting them for a month and no one got back to me so one day after work I just walked in. Equally annoying was one of owners feigning surprise saying "Oh, that's weird! We never got any messages!"So I join anyways, because it's basically the same price as 24Hour, but closer to home. And it seemed like it would be great. The facility is tiny but is NICE. But after a few times I realized the downfall in this as well...........I was hardly ever able to use any equipment because when ever I was there, they were using them with their personal training clients. I mean, that's the point of the gym, but .......why take non-personal training clients if they can't use the equipment? I was basically relegated to using the treadmill most of the time. So that was a bummer to realize. After a month, I realized I was not going to be able to work out at the level I wanted to, and decided to quit. The owners had both told me that they had a 30-day trial period to see if I liked it, and after that, they required a 30 day notice to quit.I called on the 31st day to quit.On the 31st day, and, I might add, in that time they closed for a vacation day one of those days. But anyways.........I called to say I as quitting (the same number on their website I'd tried to call and never gotten any call back) and they called me back IMMEDIATELY to say "Oh sorry you're leaving AND WE'RE CHARGING YOU $50 for your 30 days notice!"I called back to say "Hey......I quit on the 31st day......can you cut me some slack? You said you offered a 30-day trial period."And, of course, no return call. Overall, I feel like they kind of use clients like me to supplement their personal training clients. This gym should really be ONLY for their personal training because it's just not available enough for folks like me who just want to come in and work out a four or five days a week. And apparently they only return your phone calls to say "Hey, we are taking your money". Nice facility, if a bit small. But not worth it if you are serious about working out.

Looking back at all the previous reviews, including the filtered ones, one might think they're all bogus. I mean what kind of business legitimately earns 5 stars 100% of the time?Answer: Urban Fitness does - it's only the most awesome place ever to work out! Hubby and I have been working out here for a couple of years now and wouldn't want to go anywhere else. It's all been said before so I don't need to sound like a broken record in my review. UF wouldn't be the right fit for everyone, but if all you need in your gym is a great midtown location, well-maintained equipment, optional personal training, other spa-like services, ultra clean with THE MOST FRIENDLY OWNERS & CLIENTS, then this might be your new forever gym.

I want my gym like my bar. Where everybody knows your name, where its not just how much you have, but the quality of what you're drinking or doing. What I disdain about gyms are the strange odors, that guy who's grunting louder than the motorcycle that vrooms by, the absence of personality, the questionable cleanliness, and of course the absence of any community. Urban Fitness and Wellness Center throws all that out the window. I've now been going here now for more than a year and I can say that it's absolutely worth the $45 a month that I pay for my membership. On the outside it looks small. How can you have a quality gym between Cuffs (fabulous vintage store) and a consignment store? Will I have to wait 2 hours for a cardio machine? The great part about Urban Fitness is that, while its small, I've never had to wait for a machine. Ever. 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, 4:30 pm, 5 pm, 6 pm. And the bathrooms are clean. Sparkling. Both Julie and Darnell are fantastic (the owners). I train with Darnell occasionally when I need to learn more about strength training and she's always great and pushing me to my limits and being encouraging. There's no down side to this place....except for the fact that its across the street from Kru, and I must concentrate on not wanting to eat sushi.

This Review box isn't large enough for all of the adjectives I could use to describe this amazing Fitness Studio! Darnell has been my Personal Trainer for about 10 years, but when she and Julie decided to open Urban Fitness in convenient Mid-town, they hit a home-run!In addition to the state-of-the-art equipment, individualized training programs, nutrition counseling and massage services, these trainers are professional, motivational and always treat each client to their individual needs! I am a happier and healthier person because of them!

Thought I ought to post something about this place as it's been a while since anyone did. I started going here a few months ago based on the reviews, and they are pretty much dead on. This is indeed the Cheers of gyms - where everybody knows your name. It's small but efficiently laid out, with a great customer-to-equipment ratio; I never have to wait to use a machine. The vibe is much more along the lines of "fit for life" than "get ripped". Julie and Darnell, the owners, are really wonderful. They're fun to talk to as well as being very knowledgeable trainers. I guess if you want to work out at 4 in the morning, then the hours here won't work for you, but that really is the only downside I can see to this place. So if you're looking for a big pickup joint or a place with lots of hardcore bodybuilding going on, this is probably not the spot for you. But if you're looking for a very friendly and laid back gym that will keep you coming back for the people as well as the exercise, then Urban Fitness is well worth checking out.

This is hands down the best and most unique gym experience that I have ever had. Darnell and Julie are knowledgeable and professional. They have been able to create and establish a urban fit lifestyle and culture that I have only seen done by large scale retailers. The gym offers a spa like setting, people are friendly, the location is perfect and their training knowledge and expertise makes getting and staying in shape fun and safe.

While I spend most of my Northern California time in San Francisco, when in Sacramento, Urban Fitness is my favorite stop! A great facility, warm, friendly and "hip" in just the right way. Both of the trainers are spot on. Anyone who is looking for something that is less "big box" and more unique and personal, this is it!

UF has been my gym for the past 8 years and I've come to call it home. The "UF" may as well be short for "Ur Family" as the gym is extremely personal, with unparalleled attention to their clients and trainees. The owners have tremendous expertise and genuinely care about their customers. If you're looking for a big gym, inattentive corporate environment, this would not be the gym for you. If you're looking, however, to embrace health, fitness and an embracing environment, you'll not find a better place. Love it... Clean, happy, great vibe!

One of my favorite gyms of all time. It's big enough to have all the equipment I need and small enough to have that "home gym" feel I like where it's a safe space with fitness-minded people. Can't say enough great things about this gym.

Urban Fit is definitely as good as it gets. I've been a member here for 3 years...the longest I've EVER stayed at a gym. The trainer/owners are amazing. Julie and Darnell are very professional and just plain awesome. They're like sisters to me. All the members are great. Everyone knows your name. Julie and Darnell introduce new members to us oldies and are made to feel right at home. Not a fashion statement gym which I love. We're all here to workout and build better bodies. Plus we have fun doing it. I'm in here 2 hours a day at least 5 days a week and love every minute. Definitely a go to place. I feel great and am in great shape for a 60 year old. I couldn't have done it without Julie. No long term contracts..very reasonable monthly fees. If I were you, I would get in here and give this gym a try. I know you'll love it.
