Tokyo Express

Me and my son tried this place after a gal had given us the menu when we went to Jersey Mike's next door. She said for us to try their spot next time so we decided to have dinner here. We were impressed with our dinner. My son ordered California rolls which came with 10 pieces per order. I ordered a spicy California roll, which tasted fresh with good ginger on the side. We also split a teriyaki chicken plate that came with a side of steamed rice and a salad. Overall the quality of food was good and the staff was very friendly. If you were looking to try a place that is simple with good food, try this place out.

I was in the area running errands and had just picked up a sandwich next door at Jersey Mike's for my husband and saw the Grand Opening sign outside. I love sushi, so I decided this would be my lunch. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a staff member behind the counter, they asked if I was dining in or taking out and when I said it would be to go, she gave me a menu to look over. They do have a menu on the wall, but they offer so many items that the text was a bit too small for me to read.I looked over the menu and decided to keep it simple for this visit and get a Caterpillar Roll ($13.50) and Pan Fried Gyoza ($8.50). I paid and took a seat by the doors to wait.They have a good amount of seating inside and it's open, well lit and has a fun mural on the wall. I was there at about 12:45pm and there was a group eating at the time, but it wasn't crowded.My food didn't take too long and the nice staff person brought my bag to me and wished me a nice day.When I arrived home I was excited to dig in. The Caterpillar roll looked like it may have fallen over during the drive, and the avocado on top looked fresh and bright green. Once I went to pick it up with chopsticks though, I realized it was falling apart and hard to grasp with chopsticks. After taking a bite it seems the rice may have been overcooked, it was a very mushy texture and as I continued eating it the roll turned more into a rice, avocado, unagi mixture in the takeout box. I also noticed that the unagi was not super prevalent in each bite, it was there but definitely smaller pieces.I'm not sure if the Caterpillar roll was a bad choice, if it was an off day, or something else but usually when I order simple rolls it allows the ingredients to shine through and this didn't wow me.The Gyoza was still crispy when I got home and I enjoyed the sweet vinegar sauce that came with them. The outside is a thin wrapper and the inside is a mix of meat and veggies.If I come back I'll try something different from the menu, although previous reviews raved about the sushi. This leads me to think I may have caught them on a bad day. Overall it was OK and the service and atmosphere was great, but there are a lot of local sushi spots and overcooked, mushy rice shouldn't make it out of the kitchen.

Saw the grand opening sign and decided to stop by. I'm crazy allergic to bread/gluten (where i get sick for 3 months after) and i asked about GF rolls and the chef custom made me one.I also tried the Stars sparkling Saki and it was really good. They have gluten free soy sauce and teriyaki sauce.Restaurant was clean as well.10/10 experience everything tasted really fresh and good!

This place caught my attention when I saw the sign leaving Ulta didn't even know it was there and come to find out. It's been open for a while decided to pop in and try it out. We lucked out and had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Service was quick. Food was good we got the kids chicken teriyaki. My husband got the Yaki noodles and I got a roll. All of it was very fresh. We tried Tokyo Express the other night for dinner. I was most impressed with the food and presentation. This was a solid experience.We opted for the Carmichael Roll, Rainbow Roll, Sashimi, Cucumber Saladand Edamame. The Carmichael Roll - spicy deep-fried shrimp, crab, topped with tuna, avocado, sweet & spicy sauce. This was fantastic. Our Rainbow Roll included crab, avocado topped with tuna, salmon, ebi, dai ,albacore, avocado. I recommend. My 6 pieces of Sashimi were tasty and fresh with a nice consistency. Our vegetables were a nice complement. Competitively priced.

Here's what $60 of flavorless fish scraps looks like. Right is 12 piece sashimi, HALF of which was salmon. Spongy flavorless tuna, a handfull of salmon trimmings piled up, and some terrible hamachi that looks like it was pulled out of a package pre-cut for nigiri. Total Rip off.. left is bbq albacore which was overcooked and dry, swimming in some juice. Not even grocery store quality, but mukini prices. First time was the last time. I couldn't finish it, so $20 of the $60 is in the trash. Asked for extra wasabi and ginger, nope. Thank goodness I had soy sauce at home because they left it out. I wouldn't go back if it was free.

Wow! Only open a month but they have it nailed!Had the Aloha Roll, GaFun Roll, and the Chef's Special Tokyo Roll and they were all priced well compared to other sushi restaurants I frequent.All were amazing, flavorful and so big! The Tokyo Roll pieces wouldn't fit in my mouth and I needed to take two bite.Service was great and the young girl was just attentive enough, and we even got a visit from the chef to see if we enjoyed our food - great touch for strip mall restaurant!The place is new and the decor shows that with the epoxy topped swirled tabletops and metal chairs and gotta love the fish sushi chef artwork too. The music is modern and happy - the perfect pick for this place.Definitely will be back!!

Great food, great server, great area, will be back next time with a larger appetite so we can try more! Menu is extensive and much of the other food we saw throughout our stay looks great. Newer place.Chicken fried rice 4.5/5Pan fried gyoza 5/5

Was excited when I seen this place opening near my house and boy did they not disappoint the Rocklin roll was insanely good. Price point was on par forLocal sushi. Very clean and all fish was very fresh. Great wait staff and overall was a good experience. Can't wait to come back

I came here for the grand opening. I've followed the owner from other sushi restaurants that he worked at. He is a very talented sushi chef! I love the flavors that he creates. I'm so happy that he opened this restaurant here in Rocklin way closer to where I live. Don't hesitate to eat here you will love it!!
