The biggest highlight of my recent Sactown trip and only really decent Viet restaurant is Tay Giang. Most notably is their fried catfish with all the trimmings. The flavors they used to season and garnish the fish before and after a perfect deep fry/bake is amazingly crispy and flavorful. To enhance the experience further, the herbs, pickled veggies, lettuce and thin style rice vermicelli seals the deal inside a rice paper you prepare and roll up to your liking. The other dishes rhat were equally impressive are the shrimp wrapped in sugarcane and the beef carpaccio. The beef in particular is a marvelous balance of herbs, onions, lime plus presentation makes them top notch and so tender.I did have their three color pudding (che ba mau) and that was bland. Sticking to the aforementioned hand wrap foods here!

This place was recommended to me by a native Vietnamese person. I finally tried their catfish dish which they are most popular for and it was good. I remember thinking I should bring my parents there, and they are super critical so it's rare for me to actually want to bring them somewhere new. But when I dined in (this was early June), I was sat at a table that the sun was shining directly at. It was pretty uncomfortable for me the entire time and super warm inside. I've gotten a few other dishes as takeout and they were good too.

You really have to plan strategically to dine here. No joke, my friend has been telling me about the fried catfish in forever. Their hours are 5-9 pm Thursday to Monday. Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. If you try to come on the weekend or Friday night. There is usually a wait, unless you come at 5 pm when they just opened. Also, they seem to be short staff. This review is based on my take-out experience for the fried catfish. We ordered the medium size, which comes with the rice paper, vegetables, vermicelli and two sauces (fish sauce & anchovy sauce). I don't know what they season the fish with or how they fry it but it is insanely good! I couldn't get enough of it. I love fish in general, especially fried fish. I would definitely get the large fish plus a meat dish next time for family of 4. Definitely 5 stars for the fried catfish. The service can use some improvement. I had called at 4:50 pm to place my order and was told to pick-up at 6 pm. She took down my name and phone number. When I got there at 6 pm on the dot, they couldn't find my order. I think she gave my order away to someone else. I end up waiting for another 10-15 minutes and she didn't even address the mistake/wait or offer an apology. It's not a huge deal and I get the impression that is the norm for them.

Finally came back so I could try the catfish, and it did not disappoint. It was much larger than we expected so that was a nice surprise. We also ordered their P1 pho which had a hint of sweetness but good clean flavor. A1 imperial rolls were crispy and flavorful; they tasted great with the lettuce, noodles, pickled carrots/daikon, and mint leaves. N6 Bun chao tom thit nuong - lemongrass pork and sugarcane shrimp was super delicious and a big portion. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was A5 grilled mussels. The charred flavor reminded me of bad breath and a lingering flavor. Everyone else liked them so it was just me. Service took awhile but they were very busy so it's understandable. Overall, I would still come back again.

Hands down the best charbroiled catfish in Greater Sacramento! The smoky, flavorful char on the fish is unbeatable, and of course, it's not the full experience without the classic newspaper placemats--if you know, you know!My Phanmily absolutely loves this spot for its reasonably priced fried catfish, served with a generous bed of fresh veggies, rice papers, and their famous crack sauce. We ordered two large catfish and devoured every last bite.If you haven't been here yet, you're seriously missing out. A must-try!

Tay Giang Restaurant has quickly become our go-to spot for delicious fried catfish spring rolls! We've never dined in, but their take-out service has been consistently excellent. They take phone orders and always have the food ready at the estimated pick-up time. Each time we order, the meal comes with everything we need--noodles, veggies, and sauces--all perfectly packed and ready to enjoy. The butterflied fried catfish is the star of the show. We always go for the XL size, which costs around $70 and easily feeds 4-5 people, leaving us all happily full. The catfish is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and bursting with flavor. We can't get enough and will definitely continue to order this dish again and again! Inside the restaurant, it seems spacious, and we plan to dine in the future to experience the full ambiance. Highly recommend Tay Giang for a hassle-free, delicious meal!

First timer and certainly not a last timer. Open 5-9 PM Thursday-Monday, it can be hard to find time to visit without an annoyingly long wait, so our party of 9 came at opening on a Sunday evening and were the first customers of the day. Tay Giang is the sort of modest, family-run place you go expecting great food and indifferent service, so don't take it personally if the staff seem a bit cold. Like most guests, we came for the butterflied fried catfish and were offered the $70 XL portion size. Alongside two orders of the catfish, we also tried the banh xeo (Vietnamese savory pancake). To eat the catfish, you're provided rice paper, hot water, and an assortment of vegetables to make spring rolls with. The skin is deliciously crispy, with a soft and moist interior that has become what just might be my favorite way to prepare catfish. If you've cooked catfish, you know it can be hard to get past the sort of muddy-mushy taste and texture that it can have, but Tay Giang accomplishes this very well. The banh xeo, on the other hand, was soggy and underwhelming, with a disproportionate amount of beansprouts and very little protein. Come early for their specialty when you have the chance and you won't be disappointed.

My visit to Tay Giang in Elk Grove was nothing short of unforgettable. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt embraced by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The soft lighting and beautiful cultural decor created a space that felt both familiar and special--like stepping into a place where memories are meant to be made.Let me tell you about the food--it truly stole my heart. The grilled fish was nothing less than perfection. Every bite was a revelation: tender, perfectly seasoned, with a smoky char that balanced beautifully with the accompanying vermicelli noodles, fresh herbs, crisp cucumbers, and pickled carrots. The dish was vibrant, both in flavor and presentation. I must warn you, though--call ahead to order the fish. If you don't, you'll be waiting at least half an hour while it's prepared fresh. But honestly? Even if I hadn't called ahead, the wait would have been absolutely worth it.And then there was the chicken salad. It was a symphony of textures and flavors--crisp vegetables, tender shredded chicken, fragrant herbs, and a sprinkling of crushed peanuts that added just the right amount of crunch. Every bite was bright, refreshing, and deeply satisfying. The service only elevated the experience. The staff were attentive, warm, and genuinely kind, making sure we had everything we needed without feeling rushed. It was clear they cared about making our time there special.Tay Giang isn't just a restaurant--it's an experience, a celebration of flavor and warmth that stays with you long after the meal is over. If you're looking for food that will nourish not just your appetite but your soul, this is the place to go. And trust me--order the fish. It's the kind of dish you'll be dreaming about long after the last bite.
