Taqueria El Gaban Mexican Grill

What a pleasant surprise. Was in Grass Valley yesterday, saw this place, saw all the five star revues and had to try it. WowFirst, they have a kick ass salsa bar, the pico de gallo was top notch. Actually, all the taco sauces were wow and free chips to boot. The first thing that people were raving about was the Carne Asada crispy taco. It was everything the reviews said it would be. It was amazing. Perfect really.Next was the grilled fish taco. I don't even know how they can call that a taco. It is so massive you'll have to eat it with a fork unless you have some really major taco eating skills. This thing was loaded full of tasty fish lettuce and cream, it was so good. WowNext was the Carnitas Street taco. Their Carnitas was super moist yet crispy, and the flavor of this taco was triple wow. This was an incredible taco.And then we come to the Al Pastore taco. This Is one of those dishes that hardly anyone gets right. They either have way too much pineapple in it, or not enough, or they just don't understand that this is barbecue. This is the second best al pastor I've ever had. The hint of the pineapple was there but the barbecue flavor was perfection. Be proud of this taco El Gaban, you are a cut above 99% of the tacos out there. The rice and beans were excellent. They have a nice smoky flavor to those beans that make them extra good. The only knock on this meal was the guacamole was from avocados that were not quite ripe.Overall this meal rating was a triple WOW. I just wish this place was near my house. They would know me by first name.

Visited Nov. 16th. See receipt.I have always given them 5 stars because the tacos are good and the owner and kitchen staff is friendly.Today I came in and ordered crispy taco to go. PAOLA waited on me and she was rude. They have a salsa bar and it's the only place I can find pink habenero salsa. While I was waiting she said I would have to pay for the salsa. WHAT?? I wanted to talk to the manager and she said I would have to wait. After 10 minutes she throws the food on the table and states I will pay DOUBLE next time. What made it worse is that just because I am white it doesn't mean I don't understand Spanish as my boyfriend speaks it fluently. Calling me a PUTTA is calling someone a whore. I have never felt so unwelcomed and unfortunately I will not be back!

Never in my life have I been served pozole broth in a chicken tortilla soup. It was horrifying to taste the pork flavor mixed with chicken pieces. I'm walking out and never coming back to this place again. 0/10. Mexican food is so easy to make. This is very disappointing.

I'm deleting old phone pics and found these from Taqueria El Gaban. This place is too good to leave unreviewed!We ate here last month during a work trip, and it did not disappoint!Their salsa bar was divine - I wish I could return and try more.My favorite was the Chile Relleno. My husband and I split it since it comes with two. Perfectly breaded with melty cheese. My phone was full of Chile Relleno pics like a crazy woman.I had half of a Carne Asada Torta, which was delicious. I brought leftovers home for our son, who still liked it three hours later.My husband had the Carne Asada Plate with rice, beans, guacamole, lettuce, sour cream, and tomatoes. Portions were huge. He was a happy man.There's a nice, casual vibe here, decorated with colorful flags and football playing (not blaring) in the background. It could be the customers, too, relaxing and enjoying great food.

Authentic Mexican food in a casual environment, with quick service and affordable prices! Craving fish tacos, my friend who lives in Grass Valley raved about this Mexican restaurant. We checked it out, and I am so glad! This is one of the best fish tacos I've tasted! The fish was seasoned perfectly, tender, and mildy spiced. I ordered the combo, which comes with refried beans and rice. The platter was full, and for $9.95, you can't beat that price. My friend ordered the chile serrano combo plate and found it very tasty. We also ordered margaritas and churros for desert. The churros with vanilla creme inside came in a pair. The margaritas we should have skipped because they were watered down.

Food is consistently good. Authentic. Free drink refills, free chips refill. Service is good, staff are very nice and friendly.

I saw good reviews and wanted crispy tacos so I was like I'll try this place. Horrible experience!! I called in an ordered for 7 crispy tacos only 4 were crispy the other 3 were regular street tacos. Smh.I asked if we needed to make our own salsa in the restaurant (since I saw a salsa bar) the lady said we can make it for you. I asked for red hot salsa and green salsa she said ok. My wife gets home (35 min) from the restaurant to not have any salsa!!! So now I'm eating dry tacos there are mid at best!

Really great Fish Ceviche Tostada! Icy cold all set atop crispy chilled shredded lettuce. It was much bigger than I had imagined. Delicious! Great service!

Excellent authentic Mexican food. Huge menu. Amazing condiments bar. Good service, delightful people, spottless.
