Right on historic Main Street in Placerville, CA, is a candy shop. T. W. Bonkers Toy & Candy Emporium. It is has all the great aspects of a touristy, kitschy candy shop along with reasonable prices. They carry novelty candy, taffy and jelly beans by the weight, toys, puzzles, plushies, a chocolate counter, and an ice cream counter. They have a section of hard to find candy; the candy brands that were popular in the 1960s-1980s. Cowtails, Chunky, Abbazabba, Razzles, GooGoo, Zagnuts... just to name a few. They even have chocolates made from local chocolatier, Annabelle's. I am a big fan of their chocolates. Their shop and wine bar is nearby in the town of El Dorado.

How can you not LOVE this place?!?!When we're out riding we make a point to stop in Placerville specifically to hit Bonkers and fill up a couple bags of taffy to hold us over until our next stop. The staff is always friendly, there's great selections of taffy and other candys, and the prices are very reasonable. Thank you Bonkers for staying open during and after this pandemic crap and into our new world.

"Candy is childhood, the best and bright moments you wish could have lasted forever." ~Dylan Lauren On Black Friday we came in for their Free Santa photos and to do some Christmas shopping. My toddler loved seeing Santa and sitting in his sleigh, even mama got to come in! And they gave her a little candy cane which was really sweet! I successfully finished both my toddler's and boyfriend's stocking stuffers, as well as found a couple things for friends and family. Not all I can post since they read my reviews lol. Upon checking my receipt when I got home, a few of the items they had on sale were not taken off which shorted me about $9.00, shows me next time to check my receipt before leaving the store. I'm not going to hold them to it, it's a small business, the holiday season can be hectic and everyone makes mistakes. I would still recommend shopping here despite the mishap, the store is a candy lover and child's dream! It's huge, they even have a whole arcade filled with games! Support small business, I'll be back!

I really try to support small businesses. And so when we went to breakfast on Main Street in placerville and saw the candy shop, I thought I would take my 2 kids there to get a treat. As anyone with kids will know, kids are not always the best at telling you when they need to go to the bathroom. So, of course, by the time my youngest told me she had to use the bathroom as we were shopping in the store, it was an emergency. We had items that we were going to purchase but when I asked an employee if my daughter, who is holding her crotch and dancing with the need to go, if we could use their bathroom, I was told no, and that I would need to take my daughter to the sourdough and co and to purchase an item from there to use a bathroom because theirs was not public. So we had to leave without completing our purchase as we couldn't wait to checkout. In fact, my poor daughter peed her paints as I was trying to get access to the bathroom at sourdough and co. I understand if you don't want to allow non-costumers to use a bathroom, but you are a store that caters to kids! So much for the small town charm. I have lived locally for 30+ years and never have I seen such a lack of common decency to a little kid. Please do not patronize this business. I know I will never spend a dime there. Much cheaper to buy gas station candy and hey they will even let your kid use the bathroom. As I said, I like to choose small community business if I have a choice. But that comes with a requirement of a modicum of common decency. TW Bonkers has none!

Parent's Beware: Come prepared to buy your kid a new toy!Best candy and toy store in all of Placerville. There is something for everyone, I guarantee it! The little little one's will be amazed by the very diverse and colorful collection of stuffed animals. Parent's will be delighted when they realize that most prices are very competitive with big box toy stores. For some reason toys here just seem, feel, and smell better! The selection of candy isn't the best of the best (they don't have my fav.) but the decor. and great customer service earned them that 5th star. This is a feel good place for the entire family. Ps. Due to Covid-19 I believe the arcade, little kid playmat are closed. Also I think they served Ice Cream at one point, would really enjoy that again!

This place was Tony The Tiger GRRRRREAT! Walking in this place made me feel like I had walked into my child hood from back in the day They had lots of toys, the smell of the store smelled like the air had a taste of sugar floating all around. I wish I could of spent more time looking but every time I walk into a small shop like this I feel like the employees are just watching me and it irritates me. Not saying that they were doing this here but thats just how I feel from past experiences at other small shops. Thats the reason each time I grab something I make sure to put it right in front of me and my free hand behind me so they don't think I'm there to steal nothing. Enough of my personal issues, so umm yea this place is great!!! Lol they had these lil garbage pail kids miniature cards it reminded me of the 80's and how my two older sisters would go to the store to buy the cards. So I bought two of the garbage pail kids. Their candy selection was crazy!! Like I said earlier, I wish I should of stayed longer because I love chick O sticks and I think if I would looked more I probably could of find some here. Check this place out is amazing!

Wow! What a treasure. Growing up my entire life in Placerville... Would have loved to have this shop around when I was a kid. It's magical! So happy to share it with my grandson. With the assistance of a lovely owner, who goes out of his way to lend a hand, you will find just the right item to make your visit feel special.Great use of a historical building and Placerville is showing how proud we are of locals staying in town and bringing small Businesss back to downtown in a creative way. What a wonderful place to visit!

This place is awesome. The owner, Tony, is a civic leader. Loves Placerville and does a ton about it. The store: Great ice cream. Love the Annabelle's chocolate. And all the weird toys and games. The place puts a smile on your face. The employees are fun. The customers are fun. The owner is fun.
