Sunny Hawaiian BBQ

PROS: the rice and the macaroni salad were good... good portions, reasonable prices. CONS: pretty much everything elseIt's been a while since I've been here, maybe a year or so. I was in the neighborhood, so decided to stop for lunch. A very unpleasant experience. I don't know if this place has new owners. I go in, and I order a Loco moco. Rice, burger patty, eggs, and gravy, with a scoop of macaroni salad on the side . In the past, they've been great. The food comes, and I noticed I had two eggs and two burger patties. I don't know if that's the regular portion, or if it was a large. If I would've known that, they had a small, that's what I would've ordered. The rice and the macaroni salad were good. The burger tasted OK, , but the meat was very tough. The eggs were so over done, it was ridiculous. You are supposed to be able to "pop" the egg yolks, as they drip over the rest of the food. These were solid, and the eggs themselves were hard as a rock. I couldn't even cut the eggs with a fork. I had to use a knife. Also, I asked for the gravy on the side, they put it on the plate, what little amount of watery gravy there was. I wish I would've gotten a picture of the food, but I didn't know I was going to be writing an updated review until after I started eating. The dining area looked OK, but as I was eating, I noticed that flies were flying around me. Looking around a little bit more, I saw that the walls were filthy, and then looking into the kitchen, there was a tub of soy sauce sitting underneath an absolutely filthy pot. At this point, I just took my food and left. I hope I don't get sick from it.The place was so bad, I reported them to the Sacramento County health department. I will not be back.

Upon entering from the Raleys parking lot, you'll find a cozy Hawaiian food restaurant nestled next door. Above the register, a few specials are displayed, though not all are shown. Menus are taped to the register for easy access.Prices here are notably lower compared to DoorDash. The BBQ Mix was $3.80 cheaper than DoorDash with no silly service fees.I ordered the BBQ mix and Egg Rolls from this place. Despite the menu stating a 4-piece egg roll, both in person and on DoorDash, it actually comes with 5 egg rolls. I noticed that the portion size of chicken and short ribs in the BBQ mix was less compared to other Hawaiian BBQ joints in Sacramento County.There is one unisex restroom available.During my visit, I noticed one worker managing both the skillets and the register, while another was tending to the in-house BBQ. They appeared to be a father-and-son team.As a tip, students and seniors over 65 receive a 10% discount.Additionally, the daily special includes a complimentary drink.

Food is pretty great can't go wrong with this place . Call, order and pick up. With an assortment of sauces at your leisure. Worker suggested some sauce for my katsu and it was delicious. Katsu, beef ribs, and Hawaiian bbq chicken are my go to .

Good portions, Fair pricesSince I made a special trip here for Blend I looked for a place to grab lunch while I was in the area. I found this counter-service restaurant serving Hawaiian food right next to Raley's. I placed my order for a Loco Moco and Spam Musubi. I love Loco Moco... perfect for lunch, dinner, or even as a breakfast. Took some time since it was made to order. The Loco Moco was okay except the fried egg was overcooked. No, no, no... it is supposed to be cooked sunny-side-up! The traditional Loco Moco should always feature runny sunny-side-up eggs! The idea behind it is to pop the egg yolk so it pours all over the rice. Anyway, the beef patty was placed on a bed of cabbage with not enough brown gravy (in my opinion)... the gravy makes all the difference! but they did give a generous scoop of rice. I split this plate lunch with the hubby. I liked the Mac salad. The Spam Musubi was huge (so much rice!). The order came with two pieces and my daughter ate the other piece.I'll be back to try the other BBQ lunch plates... for now 3-1/2 Stars.Review #2671

Friday, 7/16/2021 - order take out from Sunny Hawaiian BBQ restaurant off Folsom Blvd for dinner. Called them to put in my order. The man that picked up the phone to take my order was very nice. I had an old menu with the old prices. After I put in my order, he let me know the prices are incorrect on the menu I had and that the prices went up and let me know how much it is. I'm glad he let me know so that I wasn't caught off guard when I arrived to pay. It took about 15 minutes for them to make me my family meal order for 4. I arrived and the person at the cashier register was very nice. He provided 3 sauces of BBQ and Teriyaki. All the foods we ordered were good and cooked just right. We enjoyed our dinner. I will definitely go here again. Quick, easy great customer service, not to mention tasty.

Over the weekend my boyfriend and I were hangry so we decided to stop in and order some grub to hold us over before seeing Christmas lights nearby. With the current state order we couldn't dine in, so we decided to place our order to-go and have date night in the car. Stepping in we were greeted by their sweet staff member and then placed our order. Sunny Combo~ This combo comes with your choice of meat, rice and 1/2 Gourmet salad. For the price it was a definitely a good bang for your buck, the portion was large.. but my BBQ Chicken was lacking flavor. And I'm sorry, but that "gourmet" salad was more like slaw, it was pretty basic and again lacking flavor. Egg Rolls~ My boyfriend and I thought they were just ok, pretty average, but the sweet & sour sauce at least helped liven them up a bit. Hawaiian Sun Green Tea~ This tea has ginseng which helps boost your immune system, among other things and it's both sweet and flavorful!Despite the lackluster meal, it still felt good for us to support small and local, especially now when they need our business the most!

My husband and I stopped by Sunny Hawaiian BBQ on a rainy Friday night when neither of us wanted to cook. We would usually order take out or delivery but coming out of the grocery store, we saw this place and thought we would give it try.I usually only eat Hawaiian barbecue maybe once a year when the craving strikes. But my husband is a huge fan. Both of us were left severely disappointed. We ordered one barbecue chicken entrée, one Katsu chicken entrée, and an order of spam musubi. The barbecue chicken was rubbery and had tons of fat, making most of it inedible. The chicken Katsu was 90% breading and, again, the parts that were chicken were extremely rubbery.I didn't try the spam musubi but my husband said it was just OK. I'm not a big fan of macaroni salad but this one tasted very bland and had no distinct flavor whatsoever. Pretty much the only thing that wasn't messed up in my mind was the white rice. So that's not saying a lot...

The food wasn't really that good I feel like I got scammed. Portions were little could've gotten it from a better place.

The best Hawaiian BBQ place in Sacramento. I would never go anywhere else for Hawaiian BBQ. They have the best serves. Very filling and all sauces are available free.

I have given this business three tries with three different types of chicken and even when I say to cook it a little longer. make it extra crispy.. the chicken is still slimy I just cannot eat it.. not a good note the macaroni salad is excellent..
