I came here for an event last month and, although the production itself left much to be desired, I just love how much the community seems to love this location. The facility is a bit dated but has lots of charm. I am a bigger girl and was actually quite uncomfortable in the seating in the amphitheater but that is nothing new. Also, they did seem to have some issues with sound and lighting but I have since read that those issues were caused by the production company and not the fault of the center. The availability of only two restrooms caused long lines and (at an event that was serving drinks) cause me to start the "potty dance" while waiting. A staff member directed me to another restroom across the center and after a very long walk, I was pleasantly surprised with an actual restroom with stalls.Walking through the center, it becomes apparent how important and valued this location is to the community and although I could barely give my own personal experience here two stars, the center itself deserves a much higher rating. Looking around at all they had to offer, I was impressed and really believe this location is quite a gem. I look forward to attending more events here in the future.

March 2024: Edgar Allen Poe SpeakeasyWhat a fun experience! I have always been fascinated by Poe but this really made him come to life (do with that what you will). It's spook (obviously) and fun and you feel like you're getting the absolute creepiest bed time story, it really does feel like a personal experience. The actors were incredible and the monologues they delivered really make your skin crawl! Each act was served with a pairing cocktail and that is where they lost me...the drinks were cheap and gross, I finally had to pass on the last one because my stomach just couldn't take it. It didn't ruin my experience but it was unfortunate. To their defense they were drinks inspired by a vile creature, perhaps it was poetic.

March 2024. Attended live theater event in auditorium. Edgar Allan Poe with cocktails! Funny concept, decent drinks. Amazing how the servers got adult beverages delivered to the capacity crowd. The stage monologues were interesting. The acting quality was yeoman. But sadly just 2 star rating from me because the venue sound system and lighting is terrible. I sat in the 4th row. At times the monologues were unintelligible. Muddy sounding PA system. Over enhanced bass register that boomed the room uncomfortably. I overheard a conversation from some one who sat in the back row, she said that she did not understand a single sentence of the entire show because the sound system was so bad. Lighting was pitiful stand mounted LED spot lamps on the stage that were inadequate. Hard to see the actors. Well, at least the 4 cocktails had alcoholic kick. I actually didn't finish the 4th glass as I was feeling lubricated enough. There are several much better theater venues in Sacramento, I'll stick to visiting those.

I have to say it's one of the best places to have any type of event. Throughout my process in setting up my event, the staff here at Sierra 2 Center, was the least of my stress. They set up everything for me the way I needed for me and my event. The kitchen is more of just a staging area for the catered food, however that worked out just fine for us. I would recommend this hall for any event needed. Stacy will take care of anyone within reason. Staff will take care of you. I'm looking forward to having future events here in the future and I'm happy to support one of my neighborhood businesses.

This is really for "Sierra 2 Center for the Arts and Community"- the Neighborhood Association runs it. Okay here's the official dope from the website - because I'm lazy - my review is below."Sierra 2 Center for the Arts and Community managed by the Sierra Curtis Neighborhood Association, is a charming, vintage stucco building built in 1926 as an elementary school. Sierra 2 is located on three lushly landscaped acres in the beautiful Curtis Park neighborhood within easy reach of midtown and downtown Sacramento. Sierra Green, a neighborhood park, is adjacent to the Center. This historic site was saved from demolition by the Sierra Curtis Neighborhood Association (SCNA) in 1976. SCNA's members and community volunteers contributed generous time and resources to renovate the school. Together they transformed Sierra 2 into a non-profit center of artistic, cultural and educational activities."My review - Sierra Two is great because it serves as the nerve center and heart of my neighborhood. Last night my wife and I went to a dinner (one of a monthly series) this one hosted by her local workout club - Figure 8. You might think just a few people would show up to a thing like this - but it was packed. Young and old homeowners alike, parents with toddlers in the playground outside, seemed like half the neighborhood showed up. The food was catered, with wine and beer and there was a very nice party atmosphere - all for $5!!! (plus $ for drinks). Talked with friends and also with neighbors we hadn't seen in a while, thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. That was just one example - there are weekend plays at the theater, town halls with our city councilwoman, it's where I vote, there are wine and cheese things, and lots of other neighborhood sort of stuff. My wife said she read somewhere that it is one of the most active neighborhood centers in the US. I can believe it - because it is really cool. There's a bunch of stuff going on - check it out - sierra2.org/schedules/activities.htm

What a neat little theater! I sadly didn't even know this center/24th Street Theater existed until my friend took me to see "Into the Woods" this last weekend. It's not a huge venue but it's got character and a quasi-vintage charm that I really dig. The only meh part was the two weird entrances/stairs/walkways to get to the seats. I feel it would be odd to navigate that part if there's a fire and people are stampeding but since that didn't happen while we were there, not that big of an issue!Cool place, I wouldn't mind taking in another show here. I'd probably just show up a bit earlier so we wouldn't be so rushed finding a parking space (street parking only)

I've now done two events here. The first, the All Sketch Comedy Festival went very well in the beautiful 24th Street Theater. The second event was my wedding. In addition to Curtis Hall we asked for a neighboring room that didn't end up getting put in our contract. The Bride and I and my mother all remember discussing having this room but ultimately I'll take responsibility as we should have read our contract better. We would've realized that it wasn't on there. It would have been nice to hear a less defensive more sympathetic tone from the venue though. And on numerous run throughs, as we discussed using this room with them, never once did they catch that we were discussing a room we hadn't actually rented. But wait, there's more. Once at the wedding we were informed that there weren't enough cushioned chairs and so they'd have to substitute ugly metal chairs. I pointed out that there were more of the nice chairs in a different room mixed in with metal. I convinced the man doing the set up that he may as well have one of the two events stocked correctly instead of both groups being off. He agreed, but then ran out of the chairs for the dining area so we ended up with a hodge podge of chairs in there. There was also an annoying light right over the dance floor that couldn't be turned off. The room was always hot no matter how many times we asked to have the thermostat adjusted (and each time we were assured that it would be.)Lastly, we were told that the landscaping, which was pretty ugly when we first looked at the place, was to be redone before our event. It wasn't. Our wedding was great but if I had it to do over I'd choose a different venue.

AIR CONDITIONING IS BROKEN......DO NOT BOOK ANY EVENTS HERE!I had an event here on July 11, and they had just fixed the compressors that afternoon. Unfortunately, they broke AGAIN in the middle of our event. It was hot, sticky, and miserable -- AND-- you cannot open the doors or windows because its in a residential neighborhood and there will be noise complaints. So 1/2 the guests went home early, thanks to faulty A/C.Consider yourselves WARNED.....and carefully read Keith Lowell J's review (below): If they were having Air Conditioner problems at a wedding in APRIL 2008, just imagine what it will be like if you book a wedding in AUGUST and it happens to be 100 degrees (F) outside?

This review is for the Sierra 2 Center for the Arts, which is run by the neighborhood association. Did you know that there are a ton of affordable workout, dance and yoga classes offered here? I've known about Sierra 2 for a long time, but only recently dabbled in their classes. My favorite? The MADE (Motivational Aerobic Dance Exercise) classes, which are similar to Zumba and allow me to shake my booty with abandon, despite probably looking like an arthritic woman with vertigo. Kia, the instructor, is a lot of energetic fun, and classes are only $5 or less if you buy a multi-class pass. Unfortunately, the association's website buries class information, so here's a link to their activities, which include special events, children, art, dance, fitness, martial arts, music, yoga, and spiritual services:http://sierra2.org/SierraCurtisNeighborhoodAssociation/tabid/61/Default.aspx

My experience with Sierra 2 was nothing but pleasant. Booking was a breeze and Stacy was kind enough to answer all of my questions. The on-site staff were very friendly and helpful with whatever we needed. The guests loved the venue and how beautiful it was, especially the courtyard area of the garden room. I'm so happy to have chosen this venue for my son's first birthday party. We will definitely be back!
