Shorty’s Gelato and Bakery

FOOD- Gelato: I picked the spumoni (dark chocolate, cherry, and pistachio) which was good. 4.5/5- Caramel Carrot Cupcake: so good and moist! 5/5SERVICE: Fast and friendly. 4/5FINAL THOUGHTS: I enjoyed everything I tried. Other than gelato they also have cookies, chocolates, toffee, cupcakes, donuts, and more. Slightly overpriced for some items.

Cute little bakery with friendly staff!We ordered quite a few things:Strawberry Cheesecake Cookie: these were so good; the filling was the best part. Brown butter chocolate chip cookies: we honestly didn't care for these too much, the cookie was very cakey instead of chewy. Lemon blueberry doughnut: the doughnut had a really good texture and taste, but my husband thought that it didn't have enough blueberry flavor. Black Cocoa Mousse Cupcake: Good, but not great. Really dense and the frosting was kind of really solid.They also had a lot of chocolates for sale! My husband loved the honeycomb milk chocolate and we bought an espresso chocolate that we haven't tried yet. Overall, this is a good bakery and a must stop if you're ever in Placerville! The only thing is that we felt like the prices were a little steep. $8 for the strawberry cheesecake cookie, and I think the espresso chocolate was $5 and it was about the size of half of a Kit Kat 2 piece.

This is a MUST STOP on the way to Tahoe! Amazing bakery and gelato shop, one of the best I've been to! The pastries and bakery are absolutely top tier (I got the Blueberry Donuts and Cinnamon roll), and their craft chocolates are out of this world. The employees are super nice and provide top notch service.If you're driving a Tesla or EV, there's a charging station in the same lot as well. I'll definitely be back, thanks so much!

Worth the Drive - A Must-Visit Bakery! I spotted Shorty's Bakery on Instagram, and everything looked too delicious to pass up, so I made the drive from Sacramento. It was the perfect stop on my way up to Apple Hill! From the moment I walked in, the customer service was top-notch - everyone greeted me warmly, which made the experience even better.Of course, I had to try their viral Dubai Dark Chocolate cookie, and it did not disappoint! Rich, decadent, and absolutely worth the hype. I'll definitely be back to try more treats. If you're in the area, don't miss out on this gem!

We just discovered this wee spot. The carb-laden choices certainly made the trip to the county waste station a lot "sweeter". lol. We rarely venture down to that part of placerville, usually sticking to Main Street. The more eastern spot along Broadway was worth the drive, though. We were in the mood for donuts, consulted Yelp and followed others suggestions. It's a cute little place (two tables inside) that has a lovely selection of baked goods, sweets of every variety and gelato. The server was quite friendly and made suggestions enthusiastically. We opted for a lemon blueberry donut, cinnamon roll, maple bar and coffee. All baked goods were quite good. My husband, the donut aficionado, prefers a more airy type pastry. These were all a bit more dense than what he prefers, but said they were "pretty good" (which is a compliment coming from him! lol. We gave all of the baked goods a thumbs up, with the lemon blueberry coming out as the distinct winner. It pains me to say that the coffee was just OK. Starbucks was right in front and might be a better choice for coffee snobs. cringe.... BUT the Baked goods are DEFINITELY better at Shorty's, though! Admittedly, I prefer to support local, small businesses. It seemed like the vast majority of folks were getting their goodies to go. We enjoyed sitting outside and watching the steady flow of locals marching out with their goodies -- huge grins galore. Nothing like carb laden treats to conjure up a good mood, eh?! From the other reviews I've read, it seems like this place has a tried and true following. Some claim that their donuts are "the best". I can't say that, but they are quite good and the small town feel of the place sweetens the deal even more for me.

The ladies here are very nice. Lots of goodies here. Gelato is good. Store looks clean. They sell these cute little earrings here. We got Ube and Cookie Monster gelato. My little one loved it. I had a few bites of each and it's good. I wanted to try the macaroon. But my little one pushed me away from it. Macaroon will have to wait till next time.

I saw them post their toasted marshmallow hot chocolate on their Instagram so I just had to stop by and get one to try. I love the concept and the whipped cream and marshmallow were delicious. The hot chocolate, however, was too chocolate-y for my taste. Not sure if it was just me or it was heavy on the chocolate syrup, but I couldn't drink it. Perhaps I'm just used to drinking Aubelita hot chocolate which is much more mild . Anyways, I will still be back to try other options but I'll pass on the hot chocolate in the future.

I've been here a few times. My kids like the gelato. The pastries are always dry to me, maybe because I'm usually here on a weekday. Overall good experience, just a little pricey but what isn't right now. We will return for the gelato.

Shorty's made a generous donation to our Soroptimist International Placerville's 2025 Chocolate Affair dessert auction. This Placerville local bakery is amazing! Not only do they have an assortment of baked goods, they also have a great selection of sweets that include toffee, gelato, etc. If you walk in, guarantee you won't walk out empty handed. Everything is in a word, Delicious!
