Shah's Halal Food - University Mall

I absolutely love the lamb over rice here. I ordered it back when I was frequenting Davis and now get it any chance I stop by. It's currently $12.75 for an order. This is a food truck that is currently at the Arco gas station while the UMall is under construction. So no seating. There is usually a couple of people in line or waiting for food. It comes with a bed of rice, topped with the lamb on one side and salad on the other. I get extra white sauce and no hot sauce for mine. You also get a beverage choice of water, pepsi, or diet pepsi. The food came out hot and quick. Good portions of perfectly cooked lamb and rice, paired with the salad for texture. I really like the white sauce here as well, even though it's probably a lot of calories!One thing to note, they opened at 10:30AM on the day I went (Wednesday), not 9:30AM. Other than that, I had no issues and can't wait to go back.

I finished shopping at Trader Joe's and pumping gas at Arco near by. I was trying to decide what I was going to eat for lunch. Shah's Halal Food truck was a few yards away and caught my eye! Score!!!I walked up and was kindly greeted by the man at the counter. I ordered the lamb over rice. My food was handed to me in a paper bag at the side window, not too long after I paid. There was no more than a 2 minute wait. Once I grabbed my food, the man asked me what drink I wanted. Options were canned Pepsi or diet Pepsi, or water. Pepsi it is! I was excited smelling my delicious food through the bag. The lamb was calling my taste buds! Once I got back into my car, I took a few bites before I pulled out of the parking lot. Delicious!!! The rice was well cooked and flavorful, not sticky nor overcooked. The lamb was well seasoned and cut into into cubed, bite size pieces over the rice and lettuce. The sauce gave it a nice savory and spicy (I was asked if I want my food spicy when I ordered at the window) taste to it. I couldn't put my spork down!I definitely will order from Shah's again the next time I am in Davis. Thanks for lunch :)

This review is LOOOONG overdue!I've had Shah's so many times in undergrad and always make an effort to make a stop here if I'm going to Sacramento or Lake Tahoe.UC Davis nostalgia in every bite :)As an undergrad, Shah's Halal Food Truck was my ultimate treat on campus. Forget Halal Guys; this truck reigns supreme in Northern California! Many options on the menu, but nothing beats their iconic chicken and rice. I always get mine extra spicy with extra white sauce.The chicken is super tender and flavorful. And trust me, they're not holding back on the sauce! Road tripping through Davis? Don't miss this gem right off the freeway - quick, convenient, and oh-so-delicious.Highly recommend!

The food here was super convenient and delicious! I'd go again in a heartbeat. As someone who prefers a bit less spice, medium was perfect. The chicken was cooked quite well - reminded me of some of my favorite halal carts in NYC.

Shah's reminds me of what Sac State's Gyro 2 Go except for Davis students. Here they have halal meat that is carefully prepared and cooked with the finest and freshest ingredients. These delicious Greek alternatives are great for lunch, along with delicious bowls and gyros. They have several locations but I went to the one near the gas station. The staff even gave me 2 complimentary sodas. Great tasting food!

After years of being with my wife, I got to try Shah's which she lives and dies by. Shah's is equivalent to what you would get if you went to Halal guys. The serving size you get from shah's is definitely more than Halal guys. The chicken that they give is seasoned with a spice (I'm not sure what it is) what gives a little kick that I enjoyed. The thing that most of the college students and alumni will tell you to get is their lamb. I got to try some of the lamb and it almost tasted like beef. The lamb did not have the rubbery taste some places has. Of course make sure to get yourself some extra white sauce and mix it all up!

Best halal food. Have not found a place that's better. Each order comes with a soda or water bottle!I once asked what the white sauce is, and they told me ranch. I asked again on another day and they said tzatziki sauce.

Best food truck ever! I've been coming to this food truck since I was a student and haven't stopped going since. I ask for extra sauce every time and with spicy! There's a ton of flavor packed into this simple bowl. Only chicken and lettuce but you will not be disappointed. Usually there's only 1 or 2 guys working and if it's super busy, it might take a little longer but it's worth the wait. I haven't been able to find another place that does it better.

This review is just for their handmade samosas! They came out hot and fresh and are definitely homemade. It's got the perfect spice and a very tasty sauce comes in a small container.

This food is absolutely amazing. Chicken over rice is the best. Delicious!!!!!!; it's a food truck parked at the ampm. Amazing!!
