We decided to check out the Sacramento Regional Firefighter Museum today. All of their docents were previous working firefighters and obviously had lots of knowledge about the job and the equipment in the museum. They had a Dispatch center, which I believe they said was from the 1930s. It's very interesting to see how firefighters used to be dispatched back then from fire call boxes. We spent roughly 90 minutes inside and got to chat with three of the different docents and they were very knowledgeable. Pretty much every interesting item there has a placard explaining its use and what period it was used in.

Came here for the first time on Free Museum weekend. It was really seeing everything that was used years prior. Was able to meet some of the docents that knew my grandfather from before he retired. Was able to learn about some of the equipment that was were used as well as some of the firetrucks that were used.

My kids had a fantastic time at the museum. They learned about fire safety and received a firefighter hat. This is a great place to teach children about fire safety while checking out the fire trucks.

The tour at the fire museum was great. It was informative with old fire trucks, and I mean OLD fire trucks. The tour guides can easily talk for four hours talking about the history of the fire battalions in Sacramento and surrounding regions. The tour was part of a Yelp elite event. I didn't even know that museum existed until this event. It's a definite place to visit on a weekend.

Our family visited the Sacramento Regional Fire Museum for the first time today and had a blast! Henry gave us a spectacular tour and we learned so much about historical and current firefighting techniques, equipment, vehicles, etc. It was really neat seeing all of the dated vehicles and how they operated at the time. Thanks again for the awesome tour, Henry! We will definitely be back again.

Gosh what a gem and this was our first time visiting. They have tons of fire engines and trucks. Our host today was Larry. He's 4th generation fire fighter retiree with 30+ years serving this region. Inside the museum, there are so many polished artifacts. There was a fire engine used during the sf earth quake. They have engines as old as 1872. Everything was manually operated back then. To move some engines, they need 3 horses to pull the engine. I like that they restore and reserve pieces of our history. They have engines from Dixon, Stockton, Davis, sacramento to name a few. That's so cool to see and I am thankful that my daughter was able to learn more about fire fighting. To prepare for this visit she brought her fire fighting hat. It was so cute to see. My favorite part was learning how folks back in the day report fire. They would pull down the fire trigger. It sends the signal to the station to a designated number that was programmed to certain streets/area. Then the operator would have to analyze it and then report it back to the station to dispatch it. It's super cool to see how much progress we've made as a region/nation. Wow! This was such a humbling experience. I want to learn more! I'm going to take my daughter back. Thank you Larry for being a great host! I found this through my Yelp event. I'm so glad we went today!

Took my three grandkids today. On our way to the Sacramento Regional Fire Museum, the oldest (age 5) said he wants to be a firefighter when he grows up. At the conclusion of our visit, as he was climbing into to our car, he said that the Museum was "amazing"!

It's been a long time coming, but the Sacramento Regional Fire Museum is now open to the public. This medium sized museum is located in an office park near the main post office in West Sacramento. Parking is decent in the area including on the street. This museum houses the beginnings of a collection of historic fire equipment and items from the Sacramento region. The facility is already packed with several classic fire trucks and vintage equipment like hooks, ladders, and lots of hose. Nestled in between the equipment are some pictures and antiques from the area. The facility has full restrooms, several exhibit areas, and a modern office look and feel. There is room to roam for the kids and a few interactive exhibits. Make sure to check out the fire alarm room in the back. Also look for the UC Davis fire truck! As of this writing, hours are variable and posted online only. This makes for tough planning. There doesn't seem to be much room to grow, but this may be a temporary spot. They do a great job describing the items and giving a history of the region. Overall this is a great addition to the Sacramento museum scene. Kids and families will love this place, and other adults will too. There are some growing pains, but it is nice to support our fire fighting history.
