I've been training here for almost 2 years now and it has one of the best decision of my life, if not the best decision. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. The people there are helpful and patient and the instructor is just an incredible teacher with so much wealth of knowledge about the sport. I'm sure there are plenty of gyms that provide a great atmosphere for their students, but I strongly believe I am at the level i am because of the instructor's teaching style. 2 years in and I dont see myself ever stopping. This gym pushes you to work hard, improving your physical abilities little by little. It's great knowing I know some form of self-defense, especially as a woman. I feel stronger, safer, and more confident, and see the same confidence instilled within the kids that train here. Out of all the businesses and areas in Sacramento that I love so much, this one tops it all. If you're considering picking up a new hobby, or finding a sport to help you get more active and fit, I definitely recomend you check this place out. You can come in to watch a class for free and then try it out before committing to a membership.Come and try it out, especially if you're a girl

You can go to lots of different places for BJJ. Question is: Do you want the real deal or not? Do you want decades of dedicated, award-winning, competition-dominating experience or do you want a place to just show up to and waste your money? This is a Professor, a real BJJ coach. Squeaky clean techniques. Straight-forward, welcoming, family-centric space. I attend- am a 41 yr old woman, just starting, and my 7 yr old daughter attends. Mr. Maxwell and his son both have locations. One of my fav things about Mr. Maxwell, he works with kids with patience but doesn't talk down to them. He expects the kids to give their best effort and they do

I brought my 9 year old son to this academy about 3 years ago and it has been a positive life changing experience that is ever growing. My son has learned and grown so much due to everything this academy has brought from the high level technical training taught by Professor Terry Maxwell and Professor Davin (Terrys Son) to the brotherhood and friendships that has been built. Professor Terry is head instructor of not only his adult class but the kids class as well and for good reason. He is passionate about making sure all his students learn and progress. His instruction is detailed with intricate break downs to ensure techniques are easy to follow and performed correctly. I myself have just started training in the adult class almost about a year ago and the only regret I have is not starting sooner. I wanted to get a better understanding of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and have better conversations with my son as he was vastly advancing his skill. Everything my son gained from it I gained as well along with shedding extra lbs which was a bonus. The atmosphere is welcoming and what I like about it is everyone comes from all walks of life and train here for several different reasons whether you are looking just for a good work out, individual self confidence and growth or training to compete.

Visiting from out of town wanted to check out some different places to train. This place was recommended by a guy that goes to my gym.Stopped by and it was definately worth it.Small BJJ gym with great people. The professor was extremely welcoming and super friendly.Dont know if it's the norm her or not, but they did not charge a drop in mat fee. Started out with a bunch of cardio and warm up drills very similar to Cassio Werneck's place. (The profession got his black belt under Cassio)Went into instruction and he was very clear and taught very well. After the demonstration, we practiced the technique for a while and then went into free rolling (6 minute rounds)No big heads or egos, everyone was awesome.I'd definately come back if I'm in town again.

This place is why I love the jiu jitsu community. Although I tried to contact them via Facebook and Yelp message them about drop in training while in town, I didn't hear back. When I arrived in town, I just called them. Professor Terry didn't hesitate in having me join their class. Both Professors Terry and Davin Maxwell are great, passionate, detail oriented black belt instructors. After the regular warm up drills, and jog, we partnered up for several drill sessions. These drills were broken down, and step by step demonstrated. As we practiced the drills, the instructors made their way to perfect our executions. So much in a successful BJJ roll is about small details that having two Professors watching and engaging the students is very appreciated. Parking is limited, depending on the time of class. There is some street parking. The gym is medium sized, but there was plenty of room to roll. There are showers, and the place is clean. The students were welcoming, no egos witnessed on the mats. I will definitely be back. Thanks for having me.

I highly recommend anyone who is in the Sacramento area to check out Team Maxwell BJJ. The head instructor's ability to instruct and his attention to details were second to none. He personally went around each group despite the large amount of students to make sure everyone was performing the techniques correctly. Also I was extremely impressed by the great atmosphere of the student body. All the color belts I rolled with were super tough and technical. No one tried to take my head off even though I was visiting from out of town. The facility was nice and clean with multiple shower stalls. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I have traveled and trained at many academies thru out my many years in the military. This academy is among the best I have came across. If I was stationed here this would definitely be my first choice.

Me and two of my kids (ages 10 and 7) are enrolled into this academy. The kids competition team is definitely among the best in California. Kids and adults are provided with the best tools and technique to compete at the highest level. Team Maxwell feels like one big family built around Jiu Jitsu. Professors Terry and Davin are passionate about teaching top of the line techniques. All students are extremely helpful as well. There are no egos. Jiu Jitsu students from other academies and even UFC MMA fighters often cross-train at Team Maxwell. It makes it more interesting and exciting. I strongly recommend Team Maxwell to both kids and adults.

I was visiting the Sacramento area for work and had the honor to share the mats with the instructor and students at Team Maxwell BJJ. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming which made me feel like I was at my home academy. Professor Davin ran a solid warm-up and taught some fantastic technique pointing out finer details. The environment consisted of both men and women (which speaks volumes in itself) and were just a great group. I look forward to training here again when I am back in town.

I highly recommend anyone in Sacramento who interested in learning BJJ. tryout team Maxwell. I dropped in from out of town and was treated like a long lost friend. The instructors were excellent and the members treated me like I was one of them. If I lived in Sacramento this is where I'd be training.
