In the past week I've ridden at Sacramento Horsemen's Association twice as a guest of an SHA member. I've been extremely enthusiastic about scoping out the facility since I stumbled upon it when I moved to Sacramento a year and a half ago. While I've not yet experienced the full facility offerings, I am very pleased so far.I apologize for the lengthy review. However, with just a couple of reviews, this gem deserves a full disclosure and a helpful review for all to benefit. Those that own [horse(s)] and are looking to move to Sacramento or within the area, I hope this helps you.The big arena near the show office has great footing, drains very well, and has excellent lighting for riding after work on short winter days. While I would never recommend any unplanned dismounts, the footing in the arena is also pretty forgiving if you end up bailing off a horse that's 16.2hh.Definitely worth mentioning are the fully plumbed, permanent men's and women's restrooms. Clean, well stocked, fully functioning and a real treat for a modest barn/boarding facility. The downside to the large arena is the lack of full fencing. There is one panel missing at the far end patched up with plastic barrels, jumping equipment and a pole or two. It's probably temporary and I'll update my post when it's remedied. The facility also has direct trail access. This is a major plus and a benefit not always found with boarding facilities. Trail riding is often the main activity for today's horsemen and it's also a great way to break things up for a performance horse. To have direct trail access is a fuel and time saver. Not to mention you minimize risks involved in trailering your horse. The downside to the trail access is the vandalism and litter once you get onto the trails. It's a product of Sacramento's blight epidemic known as homeless people. All parties that have interest in the area should do something about this problem - City of Sacramento (owners of the SHA property), Haggin Oaks Golf Course and Sacramento Horsemen's Association. That said, at least the campers we encountered were respectful. However, you should be mindful of all of the potential dangers involved with transients close to the trail. Also, sections of the trail were blocked by down trees (not just a whimsical branch or two) and that was a small problem.I want to believe you can go for a great distance after going under Watt Avenue, but we didn't go in that direction. However, following the Arcade Creek on Google maps it doesn't show a connection to the American River Trail. Assuming there's a trail for the full duration of Arcade Creek, it ends just a few miles shy of Lake Natoma. If you you can find a way to connect to the ART, you can ride the ART from Old Sacramento to Auburn and pick up the Pioneer Trail. If I learn the full extent of the trail access, I'll update this review. The large arena and trails are accessible to the public 365 days a year. There is no cost to haul in from the day and that is an amazing benefit. The trailer parking area is pretty spacious, flat and also drains very well. I don't think you'll ever need 4WD when hauling in. However, hours are limited to 8:00a-6:00p (or sunset, whichever is later) daily if you are not a member (or guest of a member). Annual membership is $95 for family and $82 for a single. Members get longer access hours, expanded privileges and a discount to rent the clubhouse. Check them out on Facebook and on their web page.https://www.sachorsemen.org/SHA is a diamond in the heart of the city and I'm glad I've finally found an opportunity to ride here. Unfortunately they do not have a trail riding outfit so they cannot offer trail rides to the public. You'll need to bring your own horse to enjoy the facility. Similarly, they do not offer summer horse camp. But for those looking to board their horse, this means breathing room!

I board my horse at SHA. It's a beautiful site with a very cool old large barn that is clean and comfortable for horses and boarders. There are 4 smaller outside paddocks and 2 large outside riding arenas (with lights). Also a smaller outside arena with good footing. It's adjacent to del paso park with a beautiful riding trail although like everywhere in Sac there is some homeless activity. And it's really nice to have horse people to ride and hang out with. Pretty happy there.

Did my FIL's funeral services there. It's a ok facility hall - basic and affordable. You do everything yourself they only provide the place. What I did not appreciate them was the fact that they held the deposit forever. Originally on the contract it says 2 weeks. 3 weeks passed by they said they're working on it. Another week passed and they stopped responding to my messages. That made me worry. So I put a stop payment through paypal (thank god that was an option - if I paid cash or checks I don't think there was anything I could do). Once she noticed paypal sent a dispute, THEN she called me and told me she'd refund through the dispute. But no apology whatsoever. I just didn't think they were very honest. Maybe they were busy. I don't know. One thing for sure - I got treated like dirt trying to get my deposit back, which I really don't think was a proper way to treat customers. I will not use them again.

I, and my two sons, wanted an after memorial reception for a loved one. As anyone might know it is difficult to project the level of interest and the number of guests to project. My tech savvy son built a spreadsheet to interact with Calvary Cemetery's website to obtain an idea of people wishing to attend an after celebration. Very successfully executed. We very much wanted to use Sacramento Horseman's Assn clubhouse but could not determine full need until about a week ahead of the event. Normal booking for almost any event venue is far longer than a week! When calling other event sites none were very willing to work without more time or a large non-refundable payment.SHA had our date open. I worked with Mike (SO easy to team up with!) to set up our event. Mike allowed a very short time commitment...like 7- 8 days! Of course payment had to be expedited at that point. Understandable. Rental was reasonable and separate deposit, completely refundable, as long as we followed clean up rules and no damages. I received my full deposit back in 14 days (quickly-my opinion) along with a very complimentary note about how our cleaning gang did a great job. We could not be more pleased with SHA and Mike in setting up and pulling the trigger for our reception. The facility was perfect for our needs and I would/will use them in the future if event space is needed. I dropped one star for rating only because some folks could find the clubhouse dated and a bit worn. Personally, I have ZERO issue with any of that. It was clean, easy to park and have access for pre party work and prep. Bathrooms were spotless and stocked well, bar area separated and easy for our guests to access beer kegs and wine choices. Kitchen area has lots of counter space and well functioning large sinks. You can tell they have been well used but loved for a long time. Two rather old gas stoves (look a little distressed but work). We had professional catering and didn't need them. There are three fridges available (with freezers). The room is large with a side area full of chairs, round and rectangle tables. Move and set up by users. Need either table covers or clean them a bit. We did both. You need to break down and return tables/chairs yourself. Clubhouse is rustic and very charming. If you want modern, shiny stainless steel, plastic and no personality....this may not be your place. SHA clubhouse is warm, large but quaint, and has a ton of character. Our reception was well attended and enjoyed by all. SHA Clubhouse was perfectly suited for us.

The owner is incredibly rude. She cursed at myself and a guest out of the blue when we made a minor mistake for which we apologized. We were absolutely shocked! Extremely unprofessional.
