I've had the privilege of volunteering with the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services for several years, especially during their Run to Feed the Hungry event. I absolutely love their mission of helping to end food insecurity--it's such an important cause, and they do amazing work for our community. They're a huge asset to Sacramento, not just with food assistance but also with the other services they provide to support families. It's clear they truly care about making a difference. This is an incredible organization, and I'm proud to support them whenever I can!

Although not fun, there is one huge benefit to moving...being able to sort through a bunch of misplaced and forgotten stuff. Within all of this stuff, was a bunch of new and lightly used clothing. In the past I have donated clothing to my local Goodwill Express. However, I did some reflection and realized that all of the clothing that I donated was being sold for profit. Going forward, my intention was to donate to an organization that receives the donation(s) and distributes them to underprivileged individuals/families free of charge. Some research led me to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Upon calling to verify their hours (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 10am-1pm and Wednesday, 4pm-7pm), I gathered all of the clothing and hit the road on a mission to make a difference. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a Sacramento Food Bank employee who eagerly began to load my clothing donations onto a cart. Since a lot of the clothing consisted of dress pants and dress slacks, he proceeded to inform me about a program called "Job Smart Clothing." Job Smart Clothing is a program within Sacramento Food Bank that provides career appropriate apparel for underprivileged individuals interviewing for employment or currently employed. How cool is that? I'm not a representative for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. However, I will say that they provide an awesome service to the community, and that a little donation goes a long way (individuals who benefit from their services often leave with 15-20 pieces of clothing per visit). Before you throw away that piece of clothing that you think is out of style or doesn't quite hug your curves the way that they used to, think about donating it to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services!

We came to volunteer here as a team building community service activity at work. We got a tour/orientation of the facilities prior to starting. WOW. I had no idea this service was available in our area. I cannot begin to say how impressed I am. I am big into the idea of a hand up rather than a hand out. That seems to be the theme of the Food Bank and family services. It's so much more than just a food bank. They provide clothing and supplies, parenting classes, English classes, Computer classes, career counseling, GED courses, legal services including immigration services, community garden, and childcare while using these services. They have a whole room dedicated to a personal stylist who can help people get ready for job interviews and important events. Anyone can come get help- refugees to people who have fallen on hard times. No proof of income is needed to partake, and fees only to certain services (like the GED or immigration attorney). If someone is trying to improve their life or just get help in a crisis, the Food Bank and Family Services is there to help!

Located in Oak ParkI made an appointment with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for tax help and this was one of the locations for it.Street ParkingI signed in at the desk and the little girl (literal child) gave me paperwork to fill out and directed me to a room to fill it out in. When I was finished, I was led upstairs into a computer room and was partnered up with an available tax volunteer. She entered my info in a software program and if she had any questions she didn't have answers to, she had these papers with different indicators attached to a paint stirring Home Depot stick that she could hold up depending what kind of question she had for VITA-FranchiseTax Board people and they'd come over to help. There were a lot of people taking advantage of this service. You have to make under a certain amount and this service is free.. I just googled for tax help and came upon this and it was a great help. I usually just e-file on my own but I had extenuating circumstances pop up and needed help.. and they helped! It's a great relief to get it done.I got a couple email reminders of my appointment prior to but I wish it entailed things to bring.. like my Social Security Card. I don't carry that around.

I think the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services is such a good thing. They are not just a food bank. They offer GED and ESL classes, computer classes for young and old, clothing drives, art/therapy sessions, mother/baby education classes and even free/reduced housing. I have volunteered at SFBFS for more than a year and it is the most rewarding work I have ever done. I volunteer teach the GED in their adult education department. It is fantastic. The Food Bank is going to be expanding soon. They have cleared the land next to them and they will soon have a large, modern building. They really could use the extra space and I am super pleased that the Food Bank will get to continue doing such good work in the community.

This is for Sacra Food Bank, in our capitol town Sacra of GOLDEN STATE! The Food Bank of Sacra is if I remember correct, three blocks from Salvation Army Corps on Alhambra and Broadway! They have nutrition education classes for parents, a Reading Center, the Reading Center helps children from Different Countries to learn read English! Volunteered at it one month not remember what year, at time director was Craig Usher! When I say of, "Oh if I a child from China instead child from Oakland," he says yes! There a clothing center where people can donate clothes! This for 2018 Run To Feed The Hungry, dated November 22, 2018, Year Of The Doggy! Did write of I AM IN! I AM IN, but this year could not do! At time was going to serve Thanksgiving meal at my local Salvation Army Corps, it got canceled last minute! However, have participated before at these runs! Many Food Banks have Thanksgiving Day runs, not all call by same name but theory is same! Run in the morning then will not feel too guilty when at night eat the turkey, chow mein, Chinese sticky rice, or whatever your particular culture eats!Glad to support this Food Bank! In this situation helps the children of our capitol town Sacra, the capitol of our GOLDEN STATE!
