As a parent ask for curriculum to see what they are teaching your kids. I design curriculum for a living for the past 17 years. When i asked, they said they dont have it all in one place. How did you get accredited? As a parent, know what they are teaching your kids behind your back. This is my honest review of this school.

As a parent of a future lifer at Sacramento Country Day, I can not express how happy we as a family have been over the past 9 years (so far Kindergarten through 8th, already signed our contract for HS!), with all of our experiences at the school. Academically, we could not find a better fit for our child. Country Day has allowed him to explore beyond a classic school day. With trips to the River, visits to the Crocker, exploration of the Effie Yeaw Nature Center as well as some of the great field trips out of town. In class experiences included dissection introduction in Lower School by the head of the HS Science Department, introduction to French and Spanish, daily PE, multiple art projects throughout the year that would often times tie with the main class curriculum, music programs to fill all of our parent hearts. Middle School (which any and every grown up knows can be the roughest time for kids, multiplied by covid for my son's experience) included Poetry competitions, March Madness - ping pong, electives to enrich and inspire your childs interests - pod casting, farm to fork, chess, knitting, finance, etc... Our son has had the opportunity to explore and learn with depth and creative teaching. Socially we have made lifelong friends, as the school truly gives families the opportunities to gather, whether those are through all school social events, parent events, volunteering (optional) with other parents to decorate for school events or even at morning coffee before a PA meeting. The school is more than a school, we are a family. I look forward to the next and final stage of our Country Day journey. HS is filled with opportunities for academic challenge, internships, community support (students, teachers, parents and grandparents), non-academic experiences - whether it's the Mock Trial team, Octagon newspaper, each year a week field trip, basketball with a retired professional, cross country with some of the most talented runners and coaches. The most important thing I can share is that the confidence our son has gained through the support of his teachers and his peers are what we as a family have always hoped for. He has no problem going to any one of his teachers or heads of school, to ask for help, share in his successes, and advocate for himself. A Country Day education is what your child and you want to put into it, the school is filled with opportunities.

My daughter is a current freshman in the high school and has attended since kindergarten. Our collective experience has been wonderful. The teachers, staff and administration truly care for the students and their families. The college prep academic education is exceptional. Best in Sacramento! Moreover, the exposure to the arts is ingrained in the fabric of the school. In lower school, students have art, music and movement, and foreign language. In middle school, they have foreign language, band, orchestra, choir, drama, and many other exciting electives. And, in high school, they have many AP and honors courses. The teachers truly know and understand each child on an individual level - how to motivate them, how to engage them, and how to make them feel safe in all ways. Each student feels known, seen and heard at this school, which creates a safe environment to learn.

This is the sort of school that you truly feel enriched at. My little girl is 5 years old and began Kindergarten this year. She has already made friends, there are many events to meet other parents. The head of the school is very nice and that reflects onto the school. Since moving here, she has grown even more:). If you want your child around individuals who don't believe in limitations, try scd out. I'm so proud to have a thriving child attending here.

Sacramento Country Day was a stellar college preparatory school for my Son (who is attending Reed College). He tells me that Country Day fully prepared him for the challenging academics of Reed.Small classes and a tremendously educated and talented faculty make Country Day the finest school in the Sacramento Region.

Wow, first review of my middle and HS and then the place I worked as a teacher! Very cool. Of course I can only judge by my experiences. My best friends are from SCDS as well as my mentors and now people I consider my extended family. Country day gives you more than an education (which prepared me for georgetown) but also an environment in which to grown up well.

Bullied, abused then kicked our child out. Refused to reimburse half a years tuition unless we signed a legal document waiving their excessive suspensions, bullying and child abuse. This place is an overpriced joke. Excessively asked for more money more money more money in the form of donations after grossly excessive tuition fees. Our child's mental health has greatly improved since we left that crazy place. For 6 years we were told by his teachers that our child was the brightest in the class. Yet, the abuse continued. Happy to be long gone from SCDS. Honestly spoken.

Mostly terrible staff/teachers, especially high school staff is all drama. but the school has all the bells and whistles like online progress tracking etc and the human element is missing. I think most of the teachers have their kids in the school as students, so teachers or staff are there for their self-interest, not for the students who pay the tuition. You cannot raise any concern or communicate with the teacher as they never respond, and the result of any escalation to the next level means you are inviting trouble for the kid. They start fault-finding in you and your kid, instead of fixing the issue which is training the teachers or understanding the rude attitude of teachers, or filling the skillset gap. Eventually, from top management to teachers, they all have one philosophy to make money either through high tuition or asking for donations, or suggesting private tuition. Stay away. All the good reviews about this school are from a handful of influential families or teachers and their kids.

Caring teachers and a wonderful education. Diverse students and staff. Care about social and emotional development in addition to academics and athletics. Arts/music daily.
