Sacramento is lucky to have SCH, which provides care for all sorts of families in crisis, not just orphans or kids between foster assignments. Their Crisis Newborns provides round-the-clock care for newborns with nowhere else to go, and they sponsor or administrate a number of other programs throughout Sacramento. If we all spent 1/100th of what we spend on all these other businesses we're reviewing in donations of time or money to SCH, Sacramento's at-risk children would have a much brighter future.

Years ago I was lucky enough to be a Volunteer at this amazing place. Words cannot describe how lucky I felt to be apart of something so life changing. I loved going there and seeing how dedicated every staff member was to these children and how their love and dedication changed the lives of every child there. I'm not going to lie and say it was all sunshine and daisies , there were a lot of sad situations. But it is about how you handle those situations that can really make a difference and they handled every situation with grace. I never got the feeling that the Teachers who were there weren't there for the right reasons and I truly felt that they cared very deeply about each and every child. I found out very quickly that it wasn't for everyone by the looks that I got when I described it as a place for the children to go so that Child Protective Services didn't have to get involved. I just felt like saying to those people, I'm sorry but that is how it was described to me, that it was a facility that gave care to less fortunate families to relieve the stress at home so the children at home don't get hurt. I know it is much more than that but that was the details I was given. I loved every moment of my time there and miss it everyday. If I could give more than 5 stars for this place I would, they are so amazing.

In 1987 I went to the Sac Children's Home with my talented children from school. We wanted to share our lip sync show. The reception was tremendous. In return we were invited back as the children wanted to share their own talent show in return. One performer, a boy of 12 or 15 danced to a Michael Jackson number. He was exceptionally talented. That was 30 years ago. I am happy to have been a part of that community sharing, knowing that all the children there were being well cared for and their talents nurtured. I feel the SCH gave them a good start in life. I will always remember this unique time in our lives.
