My daughter was interested in participating in dance and I looked for a dance studio in the area. When starting with Sac Dance Lab it was such an easy process, we bought her classes online and was checked in on the day of practice. The receptionists are all very friendly and ready to help. Her teacher Ms. Lauren is the best with the kids and really had them ready with only practicing for 1 hour in 1 day ! Super proud of all the kids and will be hoping to become part of the Starburst family next January.

I've given this place multiple chances and I'm over it. Do not go here. I was meeting up with a friend for a 5pm class but on my way I got a flat tire. I called Sac Dance Lab and asked if I could move to a different class because I have a flat tire. They said that they only allow changes 6 hours in advance. I asked how am I supposed to know that I would have a flat tire and be stranded on my way to the class?? But they said there is no exceptions. It's not that I wanted a refund, I just wanted to move to a later class. The time before that I took a beg/int Jazz Funk class. The instructor was shaming the class for not being able to keep up with the speed of the movements because we signed up for a beg/Int class and not just a beginner class. This type of attitude is very discouraging for those who are new. We were all struggling. Maybe that's a sign that the instructor is not doing their job correctly. I do not recommend this place. Money hungry and shameful.

Tdlr: amazing staff, talented teachers, not consistently beginner friendly Wonderful for more experienced dancers but even the beginner Hip-Hop classes are discouraging. The teachers aren't the same for each genre/level and some like to "challenge" the beginners I've seen the actual Sac Dance team perform and these routines are on par with what I see them do for shows. I was excited to learn, but I honestly got so frustrated that I had to leave class early out of embarrassment. Studio X is awfully hot and small. Hip-hop classes are overcrowded with no room to do big movements and dance full out. I understand wanting to get more bodies into a class, but there should be capacity based on size of the studio and how big the movements of each genre of dance are. I had excitedly bought a package for six dances at a discounted price of $90. The heels classes that I purchased with this package were wonderful, consistent, considerate, and confidence building. The hip-hop classes, however, I only enjoyed one of them because it felt like the one Reylina taught was mildly challenging, but not too challenging to get discouraged even with a packed classroom. (I actually retained the choreo from her class)A suggestion for teachers that like to challenge their students... when you start naming off dance moves that have specific names, that's where you may lose beginners. Including complicated grooves, dances that hit on the ands of the beats, and footwork that has names are the intimidating factors. Maybe pick two or three challenging moves and build the rest around them to learn how to flow into them. I find that in these hip-hop classes , I get stuck on one move that flows into another one and then get stuck on the one after that. It becomes impossible for me to confidently learn the routine without having to constantly watch the teacher. Once the teacher is out of view, I've nearly forgotten the entire routine. And if the teacher doesn't swap out the rows of students so that the people from the back can come to the front to see themselves in the mirror, I can't properly learn dances by seeing myself do the movements. So for now I will take private lessons, but I hope to come back one day. For now? Nah.

Most places I know let you reschedule your classes when problems arise. This place just wants your money. There isn't much help for new students. This place is hard to find with no signage. They don't have much info onlne on what you need for your class. I was caught in traffic then couldn't find the studio. I called to try to reschedule and got told its not in their policy to reschedule and they can't help me. I asked that why they couldn't even bend it for a new student and who was having trouble getting there and I was told they can't help me because they still have to pay their teacher for that "spot" (even though I cannot take that spot since they won't let you in past 15 minutes). So she's saying they can't help me reschedule cause they have to take that money to pay a teacher to not teach someone...

Fun, exciting, well organized heels class! First time, and it was challenging, but in a good way. There are dancers of all levels so I didn't feel too out of place. Everyone was kind. Teacher was cool. Great experience:)

This place is terrible... the staff are extremely rude and unwelcoming. Despite talented choreographers, sometimes it's not enough when the actual workers are either rude or echo a greedy brand that doesn't care about who goes there. NOT recommended; you're better off dancing somewhere else.

Sac Dance Lab has an unwelcoming and unhelpful staff with nonchalant energy and rudeness. They are greedy and money hungry. The choreographers are GREAT!! The staff, however, is NOT. Used to love coming here. This studio holds lots of amazing and talented CHOREOGRAPHERS with great energy!! However, I noticed a pattern of many amazing choreographers and dancers leaving and never staying for more than a few months. I always wondered why...And after coming from southern california and the amazing dance community out there, it was such a shock. One day, I was running late because I got stuck in full-stop traffic due to a ten car collision. I arrived 30 mins late, realizing it would be difficult to take my class since the choreo was likely halfway done. I tried to enter the studio and speak with somebody at the front desk, however, the doors were locked. I had to enter through the clubhouse and nobody was there to help either. I was not acknowledged after clearly looking lost. I had to ask a member of the dance team to help me find an employee. They happened to be walking quite fast, so I lost them in the hallway. That's when a middle aged woman came around the corner. She looked at me, and with much attitude, asked if I needed something. I said "yes of course," and respectfully and kindly explained to her my situation. I know it is against their policy to refund classes, so I asked if it would be possible transfer the credit upcoming class. She kept saying it was against policy. She goes "Yeah, sorry, that's our policy. The exit is that way," and points me to the exit.At this point, I accept defeat and decide to sit in the lounge on the couches, about to pay for the following class. I live 35 minutes away, I didn't want to drive out there and waste gas for nothing! As I sit on the couch, she continues to look at me and goes, "This area is for dancers only. You can leave, then exit is over there." in such a condescending tone. I didn't even try to say anything and decided to just leave. I had felt so embarrassed and upset, wondering if I did something wrong. The other instance, I rented out one of their studio spaces for myself and a friend. I went up to the front desk and asked the availability for the Booth at 8:30-9:30 pm instead of 9:00-10:00 pm, because we did not want to be out past 10. The front desk person was so nonchalant, and kept mentioning, "yeah, you can just do it yourself," with no explanation further than that. We decided to rent the bigger studio, Studio 3 instead. We checked the website and the room screen, which showed it was not reserved 8:30-9:30. For whatever reason it wasn't available. We registered for 9:00-10:00 The door was wide open, so my friend and I decided to enter at 8:30 and just leave at 9:30, since we were a bit confused after he said it was available, and stated multiple times we can "do it ourselves." Around 8:45pm, he bursts into the room and looks at us crazy. He tells us "you're not supposed to be in here, it's against the rules. and this isn't the booth." with the rudest attitude. I mention that we attempted to sign up ourselves up, but we figured it might've been okay if we just stayed and left 30 mins earlier from our 9:00-10:00 reservation. We were a bit lost and confused by the lack of clarity he provided which I did not mention (but I should've). He then asks, "are you Carmen?" and I said yes I am! We paid and reserved the room. We were just there early, and then again explained the confusion. On the way out, he says "well it's against the rules, so don't do it again," and slams the door. We were sorry for breaking the rules, and we knew for the future time, but we didn't even get a chance to say so... Even if we did break the rules, it was not out of malice or disrespect, and I feel that we could've been approached much more respectfully. If this were the other studios I used to attend, they would've been welcoming, offered help or solutions, and treated me like I was supposed to be there! It would have been organized, the staff would've been informed, helpful, and sociable. As dancers, we're a community and we stick together. There is no reason I should be walking into a dance space and feel like i'm such a burden.I'm a very soft spoken, respectful, and a bit of a shy person. I have never had anybody treat me this way before, not even in a retail or grocery store! This treatment absolutely shocked me.Since Sac Dance Lab is one of the only adult-based, drop-in dance studios in Sacramento, they take advantage of their customers. If some people are unhappy, they don't care because they know there aren't many other options available in the area. They're aware that money will still come in from everybody else that hasn't had an unpleasant experience (yet).

My wife came home in tears from this place, because they would not allow her to switch to another instructor As the class she was attending was playing a song that brought up some trauma. They did not even look her in the eye while she was explaining her concern. All they said is 'it's in our policy that we can't switch you' and 'Your just trying to get your money back.' My wife really needed this outlet as we have 2 babies at home and she's dealing with post pardon. No business should be in business that does not care or respect people. I totally understand having policies, but Sac Dance Labs policy is so STRICT, to the point where they refuse to be understanding and accommodating. The management is ran by a bitter and self centered person. The only reason I feel they're still in business, is because it's the only dance studio of its kind in the area. So if your an entrepreneur and looking for a new venture in the Sac area, open up a dance studio and put this garbage one out of business.

The customer service. There was a lady there yesterday 11/11/24, her name was Zaela or something like that. Our majorette team had paid to practice there for 2 hours. She kicked our girls out 30 minutes early saying we didn't pay for 2 hours when we did which was extremely rude. These are young girls aged 5 through 13 and they were practicing for our competition that we have this weekend. This experience felt real racial like she didn't want us there because we were African American. Horrible horrible experience that will be shared with everyone. We will never come back to this business. It's sad that our girls had to experience this. Sac dance lab you should be ashamed to have people like this representing your business. I wish there were zero stars because that's what I give this place.
