Hello. I am a River City Food Bank "food recipient". I come by for food on Wednesdays at the St. Matthews location. The staff does such an excellent job, I am reluctant to complain, however, there is an employee who makes my visits to St. Matthews difficult when I am able to come. I will not include her name, I have included her photo below. I am hoping someone in upper management can speak with Karen. Her treatment of food recipients is not consistent, she can be rude, controlling, and lose her temper with food bank patrons and also the the staff without provocation. Recently she singled me out from others waiting in line for food, I believe it is because I am Black/African American, she has taken a very inappropriate interest in me, and I have not caused any issues, and I do not require special attention. Compared to the other employees and volunteers she is out of control. She also has the tendency to touch me as I am walking into the food bank to collect my food without my permission. This makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. I would like to reiterate that all other River City staff and volunteers have been consistently courteous and professional to me and other food recipients. I walk to the food bank from Fair Oaks Blvd, and then I have to walk home with my food. I really need the Food Bank to be an emotionally safe place. Thank you for considering my complaint.Thank you,

It's conveniently located near the 29th Street Light Rail Station. They give out free food every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. It's given to folks regardless of income. Volunteers hand the food out to clients. The food is donated to them by companies, so it changes regularly. On a recent visit, I received several blocks of cheddar, spaghetti, and cans of tomato soup.

I've done some volunteer service here, so I've seen up close how dedicated and generous the staff here are. They are respectful and courteous of the clients and the volunteers and do a Yoemans job every day. You want to consider supporting them however you can.

The people who work here really care about their community. They are showing up as essential workers every day making sure people get fed regardless of financial income, etc. Some of the volunteers, like Jason, has committed to be there full time regardless of payment to assist the regular staff. Volunteers, donations, and COVID medical supplies are needed and appreciated here. Since COVID 19 started, the food bank staff have stepped up their precautionary measures to ensure public and staff safety. Food distribution now takes place outside instead of inside and will continue that way all year. The staff are wearing masks, gloves, and cleaning and sanitizing 100 percent to protect themselves and the public. Food bank staff request individuals to come by once a month, but they will not turn down anyone in need. People can receive canned goods, dairy, breads, and sometimes other goods like dog food. If you ask and they have it, they will give it to you. The public receives food rations based on family size. I hear the new summer hours will be out as soon as June 1. As of now the River City food bank is closed Saturdays to Mondays, open during the day Tuesdays to Thursdays, then staff are at food bank's church location in Arden on Fridays and Saturdays. Visit their website or Facebook page for more information.

28th & RI drive by all the time and see a line out the door. Never really gave much thought to it since i'm on my way somewhere.. I've gone vegan recently and my work gives out frozen turkeys for the holidays and I'm not gonna eat it so... I looked up food banks and came across this one, checked out their website but wasn't sure if they took frozen turkeys so I emailed. I got a quick response encouraging me to come in anytime Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm.The few parking spots in front of the building is for volunteers. I told the person in front I was donating and she directed me to go through doors on the right. I went in and I wasn't sure who to leave it with or do i leave it on the counter or is there a place to put it, who do I talk to? They were busy. I mean, there's a line out the door waiting. Inside, it was a great energy like overwhelmingly great. People helping people and they weren't just giving cans of food but fresh fruits and vegetables. I spoke to a lady there with an apron and left the turkey with her. She'd put it in it's rightful place and assured me a family will enjoy it.I cry more and more as I get older and this got me. I love food and there's people that, for whatever reason, don't have food and donating that turkey was like, why have i never been here before? Check out their website for volunteer opportunities and/or donations.

This organization receives a lot of government funding to deliver the donations they are given by companies in good faith. Most of the staff are excellent at their jobs, and they serve the public with kindness an respect. Sylvia is the exception. Sylvia is rude, disrespectful and nasty. Sylvia gives this team a very bad image.

We dropped off a rather large donation of frozen and refrigerated foods when we were moving out of state. They made it so easy. We called in advance to ensure they could accept freezer food and to check donation hours. Everyone working there was so kind and cheery, they even helped us unload our car. Cant speak to the service side but they made donation effortless.
