Red Star International Groceries

I never wrote a review for Red Star?! How did THAT happen??? Never worry, I'm here to fix that :)Red Star has been one store that has been a huge part of my life, since middle school (or maybe even before that). My mom has always brought me and my brothers along with her to buy caribbean food (particularly particular fish that isn't sold anywhere else!), seasonings, treats, and drinks (malt is my guilty pleasure!). Whatever can't be find at grocery stores, guaranteed it can be found at Red Star!Crazy how time flies! The owner always had his son with him in the store (when going there as a youngin'). Fast forward to today, and you can be pleasantly serviced by his son at the register. While the dad is in the aisles stocking or providing help when searching for products. He always says "hello" when coming into the store. :)The only downside, is there are sometimes expired items on the shelves. You just have to be extra vigilant and double check those bottles and cans before paying. If you do end up buying something expired, they will happily refund you what you paid for it.I would say I will be back. But, you already know I will be for my next Goya or Vita brand malt fix. Or when my mama is gonna cook up some yummy island cuisine. Yum-my! :)

My family has been going here for years since when the father owned the business! I love the family owned business.

You can get foods here you cannot find anywhere else. They are truly international. We can depend on RED Star!!!

Not clean, unpleasant smell. Lots of items wayyyy past their sell by date.lIt's a no for me dawg.

Great customer service! A gem of a find for the home weekend warrior chef looking for unique ingredients. And never forget that you will be supporting one of the longest standing independent business owners and upright families in our community! I'm not sure when they started, but I remember walking dow. Be sure to check your expiration dates. Some of their seasonings and food are expired. However, they have seasonings that most international markets do not have. A lot of the international markets in Northern California do not have goods from Caribbean Islands/Africa. Red Star International Grocery, provides goods for individuals who want to cook Caribbean and African dishes.

I love that this store has such a diverse selection of items that covers a spectrum of cultural taste buds. Going here I bump into a UN delegate like of customers. I love to listen to the various customers speaking in their native tongue as they peruse through goods. This jewel of a store is perfect for Sacramento, providing for the beautiful diversity of the city.

This place is great. They have the best plantains, separated by ripeness. You can find real yams that have manys uses and various jerk seasonings.

You might find what you are looking for as not too many Grocery stores sellwhat they have. However like some have said here: Place needs a make-over and very cramped. More importantly check the expiration dates on the products they sell. I told the clerk at check out and he said "OK". To me that means that he plans on doing nothing about it.

I was in the SAC AREA and looked up African store and this store popped up. Lol. It was a A Asian market and well stocked with what I had on y list. The young man that was there was very knowledgeable about where the items I wanted was. I will be returning.
