Railroad Fish & Chips

Open on New Year's Day. A very reliable place to eat in Old Sacramento. I love their clam chowder and fish and chips. Both Solid Choices. Eating is outside only on picnic benches. That is the only drawback in the cold winter months and the hot summer months. I'm guessing that is why the Clam Chowder is so popular in the winter, it helps keep you warm. There isn't another choice for this food fare in Old Sacramento, so if you want it you have to brave the elements. It wasn't super cold on New Year's Day so lots of people were braving it. From walking around in back you can hear them call out the customer's name as their orders were ready.

Fish tacos: very good, but messy; good combo of slaw, tarter sauce, cilantro, and fried fish Fish-N-Chips: very good; fish was super crispy but lite, not heavy and greasy; not a fan of the fries - they were soggier and not flavorful Clam Chowder bowl/bread bowl: not Disneyland clam chowder but very good; not too thick; good flavor; good blend of potatoes, veggies, and clams 1 Coke1 Water1 Modelo1 GatoradeTotal: $70Overall, very good. Torn between 3 and 4 stars. The fish and chips were absolutely amazing but everything else wasn't great. The chicken tenders tasted like dry pieces of cardboard and the calamari was tough and chewy. The watermelon was warm and not sweet. Food came out fast though and this place is a classic in old town sac. Would definitely recommend the fish and chips and clam chowder for a great experience here! They also have malt vinegar available by request.

Located in Old Sac Town along the side of the river. Friendly service. Food came out pretty fast. Big portions. My shrimp & chips were good!

This place is great If you're with a large group, they have many different options like burgers, chicken strips, fish and chips, etc. Looks like a mom and pop shop and the workers are super nice and friendly.However, I thought the food was sub par. I got the catfish and chips and the fish and fries were kind of soggy. The batter was falling off the fish and fries were soft and not crispy. My buddy got the fish tacos and said he didn't really enjoy them either that it was filled with cabbage. The tartar sauce was also super watery (Not thick) and had no flavor. I asked for another tartar sauce and it was the same just really watery.Overall nice workers, lots of variety, but food can be a miss.

Railroad Fish & Chips is good stop when you're in Old Sac. You order at the register and find a table and there are a pretty good amount of tables along the walkway. The menu includes fried fish, chicken and other seafood, and burgers, sandwiches, and clam chowder. We got the fish and chips, calamari and chips, and popcorn chicken. Since we came during Thanksgiving weekend, the wait took a long time. But the food was nice and hot when it got to us. The fish and chips were good. The chips were pretty standard fries. The calamari were like calamari rings and the breading kept falling off and a little chewy. Portions were decent, came with a lot of fries and good amount of main item. The kids enjoyed the popcorn chicken. Service was great, the staff were efficient trying to get all the orders out as fast as possible.

Food was good for a fast food walk-up place. Not too clean in the eating area, but that has a lot to do with the clientele I guess. I'd go back, but I'll take my food to the room to eat. Fish and chips were awesome and the corn dog was pretty good too.

Joint was order outside from window-ish view. Wait off to side. I walked over from hotel nearby. Food came out in decent amount of time. Right in Old Town Sac so crowded. Clam chowder bowl and fries shrimp and chips = $31. Alright for taste. Nothing that stands out to me saying come back or anything.

Wanted to commend the excellent service. My daughter was hungry making a scene. Gentlemen at the counter expedited our order in front of a large order. Fish was flaky and juicy. Definitely a repeat customer.

Okay so this is a re-do for this shop. When I want some delicious fish & chips and I'm in the area this is where I always end up. I generally get it to go but there's seating outside which is nice. The help seems to have changed and are much more receptive to their customers so I felt I needed an update.
