Pelican's Roost Fish & Chips

Great service and great food! Food was so hot and crispy, if you want fish & chips and many more delicious items come here. It really is a hidden gem!

I'm still on my little fish and chips kick and decided to give this place on Auburn a try. It's not exactly right off the 80 freeway, you'll have to drive into town a little. Thank god for GPS! As you get into the "downtown" look for the big clock tower, the fish and chips place is just across the street. Parking looks to be street parking, so you might have to drive around a bit to find parking, especially on a busy weekend.The shop is pleasant inside and I order a 3 piece fish and chips. It comes out all hot and too hot to handle with my bare hands. After cooling a little I take my first bite. Crisp on the outside and cooked perfect with white fish inside. It could use a little salt, but that's just me. I liked the food here and the prices are about the same as the rest of the fish and chips places, but it's just not as convenient right off the freeway with a strip mall parking lot, but I guess that's part of the charm of downtown Auburn here. Good place to stop if you want to spend some time wandering around Auburn.

We had fish and chips. It was nice and crispy, not oily, and batter was nice and not too thick like some places. They even have teriyaki and stuff on the menu but we didn't order that. I would come again!

We stopped by around 4pm on our way to grass valley since we need to charge our electric car and there are fast chargers within walking distance! Huge plus! It was pretty much empty minus one other party. Though the menu has lots of items to choose from, we ordered fish and chips (because how can you not when it's in the restaurants name!) and chowder. The fish was yummy! They have a lightness to them despite being fried. The fries were under seasoned so I used the table salt to give them some help lol. The chowder was average. Not a bad mealJust didn't stand out. The prices are very fair.

The fish here is AMAZING!! I came all the way from Reno, NV just for the fish and chips. This place is a hidden gem and the owners are just the best!

Ordered the catfish and chips - quite underwhelming the fish was super crispy but breading had no seasoning or flavor, the fries were hot and fresh but they had no salt on them. The tartar sauce looked like it was ranch the consistency was off - runny and honestly didn't have the best flavorServer was very short, not friendly, barely wanted to let me use the restroom when I walked in (I had to go extremely bad). I even explained to her that I would order once I came out.I went to the front to pay for my meal and while I was waiting I wasn't able to see into the kitchen. As I was patiently waiting I saw her preparing food and using a clear glove but was eating from the bowl with the glove and putting her hand back into the bowl :)Wasn't gonna leave a review but after that :/

Visiting my brother. On way out I did my typical Yelp search and decided to try this place. Clean with a lot of different decorations. Owner treated me and I ordered fish, scallops and chips. Food came out hot, crispy, not greasy and the right amount of batter. I keep finding cool old places in Auburn. I'll be back to Pelicans Roost!

Great Fish and Chips! We always order to go on our way to Reno and the order is ready in 15 minutes! Four pieces with chips. It's family owned and they love it when we pay in cash! Next time, I will post our pictures of the order.

We drove 30 minutes from Roseville just to try this place, thinking we'd get some good fish and chips. We arrived at 7:15 PM, a full 15 minutes before closing, only to be immediately turned away by a woman at the counter who told us they were closing soon and asked us to leave. Seriously? A restaurant that doesn't look busy turning away paying customers? That's just terrible business.Honestly, in hindsight, I was kind of relieved. The place was completely empty, and as soon as we stepped inside, we were hit with a strong, unpleasant smell--not exactly the most welcoming atmosphere. It certainly didn't inspire confidence in the food quality.We ended up walking up the street to Lubia, a pizza place, and what a difference! They were happy to see us, the food was fantastic, and the whole experience was welcoming and enjoyable. That's how a restaurant should treat customers.As for this fish and chips spot? They lost my business for good, and I'll be sure to warn all my friends and family to stay away. If this is how they treat customers, it's no surprise the place was empty. Would not recommend.

Great fish and chips...Had a few different combos all were good...It's not a fancy place but you will get a great meal.
