Overpriced, especially on donuts! Not much flavor on food. It's just a convenient place for state workers. They only take cash.

I love this place. They have quick and easy snacks, breakfast, and lunch. I wanted to give an update during COVID because they're open now with limited hours, but they've been experimenting with their menu. They've expanded their sushi selections to include an unagi roll, they now have a veggie spring roll, an individual portion of scrambled eggs topped with cheese, and a breakfast platter with 2 pancakes, 2 strips of bacon, and scrambled eggs for only $4.50. They'll heat it up for you, too. There's a lot more I haven't mentioned that they offer, but their food is always a great value. The staff is very friendly and personable. My favorite item to get is their Americano. The best I've had for only $2.50. I always get it with soy milk, and they always give me a generous splash. Without as many state workers in the office, they're not getting much traffic, so I'd love for more people to check them out.Oh, and they take credit cards now. :)

Unfortunately they were out the special, sweet and spicy chicken, so I had the teriyaki chicken and added some hot sauce. For $6, I had the chicken over rice, iceberg lettuce with ranch dressing, and a large drink. Pretty good stuff. Not a bad deal for a quick lunch (M-F), but I will have to go back earlier to check out the special.

In this neighborhood, this little cafe attached to the California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation, is the cheapest and fastest. Everyone is very friendly and I love the lady who is always at the cashier. She always has a big smile and says "Thank you very much" every time. I only get 15 minute breaks and they always get my order quickly in and out within my break's time frame. Food items are pretty cheap. Coffee is standard prices and their soy latte is very very good and even better than Naked's Soy latte a block down the street. They have different daily specials and sometimes serve random entrees like lumpia and other Asian cuisines. Lots of different salads, soups, and sandwiches. They happily customize your order if requested. So far everything I've tried has been tasty. I usually get the egg and cheese croissant or quesadilla. They keep everything nice and clean as well. Only drawbacks are that they are CASH ONLY and are only open regular business hours Monday through Friday.

I work in the building attached to this lovely café. I am always greeted with such kindness, feels like family. I have tried various things on the menu over the last 4 years, but I have to say the chili I ate today was very good! Prices are reasonable, shrimp fried rice, and fresh salads are my go-to's. Keep up the good work. I def will be back for more chili!

The ownership of this establishment changed six months ago. I got a chia latte, and it was delicious. They sell a smorgasbord of things here: croissant sandwiches, parfaits, donuts, hard boiled eggs and many more breakfast options. The staff is friendly, too.

The coffee is awful and they don't take cards at all. If your establishment is cash only, perhaps you should put a sign stating such so people aren't blindsided at the register. With so many other locations around which are superior (Cafe Bernardo, Naked Lounge, anything on R Street), the only patrons here are people from CDCR who are too lazy to walk further than half a block. Not worth the time.

I come here quite frequently for my morning coffees and lunch. The prices are competitive to the surrounding business. Paper iris are friendly and and seem to be family owned. The orders are made quick, I think it's pre made in advance to convienently given to customers. The coffee and breakfast are mediocre, it's a fair price for a reasonable breakfast. The lunch, there is daily specials of sandwiches/dishes. Could pick the full size or half a size dish, full size portion comes with half a salad. The soft drinks are self serve but it cost extra for refills. The tables and chairs seem to be a bit worn down, the customer service is excellent. They only take cash, they do not accept cards and there is an ATM in the restaurant. Overall, I'd give the food 4/5. Prices 5/5. Keep up the good status paper iris!

Excellent food, clean and gets very busy but they put out the dishes!Had a big exam to take nearby so there was no line at first, then after I snagged a great looking chicken salad on iceberg lettuce with a whole egg and dressing (ready to go in cold chest by door - nice!). I think it was $8. Also got fountain drink about $2 there. A crowd showed up right after me but by then was enjoying crisp, cool salad; fresh, tasty, great.TIP: The Papered Iris still requests "cash only" so be prepared but luckily I knew. If you don't the food will look great but you have to bring cash : )Dining area is spacious, cooled by fans and big windows to watch the developers completely change the area with expensive apartments and expensive stores; luckily Safeway is still there (19th St) but the changes out the window in a short time of a couple years make me hope this cute cafe, with friendly staff and tasty lunches will be able to stay afloat.Hoping they can make it! The area is getting prohibitively expensive. A shame because it can drive excellent small business like this cafe out. I will continue to recommend and enjoy Papered Iris Cafe, THANKS!
