TLAYUDAS IN SAC! We finally have TLAYUDAS in Sacramento! Oh you don't know what a tlayuda is? It's a large, thin, crispy torilla with a bean spread, meat (tasajo is my FAV), quesillo (Oaxacan cheese), avocado, and tomatoes. It's what I imagine the Mexican Pizza was inspired by. I visited Oaxaca City in ~2019 and have been dreaming of tlayudas ever since. Oaxaqueno food is simply unmatched, and even though true tlayudas are folded in half, I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant's version.First off, on the menu, quesillo (a key ingredient) is not listed for the tlayuda. I thought wow, that's blasphemous, almost like a pizza not having cheese on it. I asked the server and she wasn't sure if there's cheese, but my friend and I took a gamble anyway. Glad we did, because there was melty quesillo on it! Second, I love that there's a combo of meats--chorizo AND tasajo (!!) my only wish is that the tasajo were in bigger pieces. We also had the chicken mole enchiladas--both rojo and negro. Perfectly juicy, and loved that they had red mole, as well! Every bite took me back to my time in Oaxaca City. I can't wait to try everything else--I heard they have tetelas! Something I haven't been able to find in the States at all. My friend and I came here on a sunny day, and we sat in their parklet that overlooked the street. Highly, highly recommend! Though the interior is so cutely designed--very CDMX.

If you're searching for a place where Oaxacan tradition meets a perfectly curated mezcal selection, look no further. This spot is equal parts soulful and sophisticated, with an atmosphere that hums with warmth and authenticity.Let's start with the food: The mole is nothing short of mesmerizing--layered, complex, and deeply satisfying, like a story told in rich, velvety spoonfuls. The squash blossom soup is a treat- both delicate and indulgent, carrying a depth of flavor that lingers long after the last sip. The chile relleno? A masterclass in balance--roasted to smoky perfection, encased in a crisp-yet-light batter, with not a hint of grease to be found. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, the churros arrived--pillowy, golden, and dusted with just the right amount of cinnamon, like the perfect final note in an unforgettable melody.Of course, no Oaxacan feast is complete without mezcal, and their selection is downright impressive. Whether you're a seasoned sipper or a newcomer, the staff will guide you to the perfect pour, each one smokier, smoother, or more nuanced thanThis isn't just a meal; it's an experience, a love letter to Oaxaca in every bite. I'll be back--probably sooner than I should.(Minor note: While one would expect to pay a bit more for authentic & high quality cuisine- the prices for Mexican beer had us doing a double take. $9 for a Pacifico is a bit much!)

My friend and I checked out Oaxaca last night for a little Galentine's Day dinner!I wasn't sure if they were open since their Yelp page doesn't give any hours, but I believe they opened at 5pm yesterday so we were one of the firsts to arrive! We were greeted immediately by multiple staff and were told we could pick any table we wanted. We ordered the Watermelon Raspberry Margarita which was not only aesthetically pleasing, but also tasted great with the right amount of sweetness while still being able to taste the tequila. We shared the Squash Blossom Soup and the Chili Verde plate. We also got the Pistachio Gelato for dessert. Everything tasted very good - the soup was rich and flavorful and the Chili Verde plate was seasoned well - I do like my Chili Verde spicy, but the tang from the tomatillos were perfect. The Pistachio Gelato wasn't too heavy and made a great end to our meal.My only thing was that they did not offer chips and salsa which I know a lot of more upscale Mexican restaurants do not, but I didn't even see it on the menu - they only offered an Herbed Guacamole. I wish they would have given me some salsa on the side for the Chili Verde, but it was still tasty without it!The inside is pretty small, but they have a bar area and the kitchen is open so you can see them while seating at your table - I'm always a fan of that. They offer small bites, different tacos and even salads as well - can't forget the Mole either -- I will definitely be coming back here to try more food!

Food: I'm no means an expert in Oaxacan cuisine, but this was hella good. There is some stuff to work on, so I can't give it 5 yet. Like others, came here on a soft opener, so there was a limited menu. If anything, it's just a nice addition to the neighborhood, so it had that refreshing factor. Started with the enmolada. This was super tasty. I crushed it. After that, I got the chile relleno and that was pure fire. I wish I started with that, bc I was pretty full, but I still destroyed it. The cheese was so good. I was "okay" in the sauce. You can see prices on the menu. It was kind of pricy for what I got especially with no rice and beans, which they said they were going to add. Looks like they are trying to bring a mezcal scene to the neighborhood, so this could be your spot if you're into that.Service: TBD. I sat at the bar. The bartender was super nice and helpful. The owner was there and was also super friendly. Service was quick. Ambiance: Soft open, so everything wasn't in full bloom. The outdoor patio can be a vibe once the weather is warmer and they get a few more tables out. It's pretty aesthetic inside. A definite date move - The owner said there will be live music and art viewing outside as well. I was impressed, but since this was a soft open, I can only have high hopes.

Excellent food and service! I recommend the squash soup and the mole! They were out of the tacos, so I'll be back to try them. It's cute and cozy inside as well.

A new gem in Oak Park. Everything about this spot is 10/10 in quality and deliciousness. I dropped in during its soft opening two times - each time, I couldn't wait to go back. If you've not had mezcal prior, get acquainted here. I had a mezcalina (mezcal, pineapple and jalapeño) that was better than what I had during a trip to Mexico mid last year. The soups are also some of the best I've ever tasted. Pretty sure the official grand opening hasn't happened yet, but amazing work already. Will definitely return, over and over.

I had a tlayuda, it was delicious! Smaller than what I've tried before but the meat was on point. Their drinks looked good. Great service and decorations. The only "bad" thing is that it's a very small place. It was full on a Friday evening.

Stopped by to check it out during soft opening. Hoping they read this and take it to heart since I know they're just kicking off. Constructive criticism because I want them to be successful. Here's the good and bad...Salsa, guac, and chips were good. The salsa in particular was unique and tasty. The coarse grained chips were a nice change from the typical cantina chips. The elote is ridiculous. $12 for a piece of undercooked corn with a little crema and cilantro sprinkled on it. Nothing like elote from street vendors in Oaxaca and wildly overpriced. Legitimately bad and a total ripoff. The mole chicken enchiladas were excellent. Love the blue corn tortillas and the brown mole was delicious. it would be even better with a little side of black beans, which would not be unreasonable for $17.$9 for a bottle of Corona or Modelo is insane. I've never even come across prices like that in New York or SF. Their signature cocktail (Oaxacan Old Fashioned) was tasty but at $16 will just be an occasional treat. The birria soup was really good. Lots of birria in there and was served with some blue corn tortillas and diced onion on the side. I'd definitely get this again, even at $16.Service was good and attentive. They always made sure our water was full and brought out some extra chips, which was nice. Bill was $110 before tip for two kids and two adults. I look forward to trying their food again once they find their footing but for now, I'm going to hold off for a bit.

I happily stumbled across this mezcal bar/restaurant on a walk around the neighborhood. The interior is super well decorated and the mezcal selection and small menu are both great. I tried an amazing pumpkin soup and the owner told me about the planned taco nights and educational events. Stoked to have this addition to Oak Park!
