Underrated sushi spot I've been going to since high school, I love the salmon fusion, miso soup, and starter roll. I'll always come back here and I need to branch out on the menu here more. The service has always been consistently good for me. The restaurant is always clean with comfortable seating. I'll be back for sure.

My recent dinner experience was just ok. I ordered 6 piece sashimi and hot pot nabe since it was a cold/rainy evening. Fish was fresh, hot pot nabe was as expected. The broth was slightly saltier than what I usually prefer. Overall, can't complain about the food. The reason for the 3 star is that I received no service from anyone except the sushi chef and when the food was brought. I had sat at the bar and the sushi chef asked if I've been helped, in which I answered no. He took my order and some where in between he checked in on me. This wouldn't be an issue, but the guests next to me who also sat at the bar received service/interaction with the waitresses and the same sushi chef. Usually I don't based reviews soley on service, but I felt invisible. Applause to Nagato for having been in operation for many decades. Hope service is consistent for everyone. Can't decide if I'll be back if I'm in the area again.#25/2024

Great to return to a longstanding family restaurant still going after all these years. Cozy, clean, neighborhood restaurant that's bustling. Food is pretty good except the teriyaki beef that needs a little "tenderizing". The rice serving is less than expected. Overall, I can see why Nagatos is still the most popular place around here. In the '60s-'80's this was the heart of so many great restaurants: Chucks Steak House, Coral Reef, Aldos, Pine Cone, Ken's Red Barn, Tiki Village, Buggy Whip,

Went here for dinner. The food was pretty good. The vegetable tempura was perfect. My kids had some chicken teriyaki and they really liked it.

Located next door to Taqueria La Perla Tapatia (I got ROTD for that review here: https://www.yelp.com/biz/taqueria-la-perla-tapatia-arden-arcade), Nagato Sukiyaki is conveniently located across from the TJ Maxx/Sprouts shopping area of Town & Country. On the smaller side, the clean ambiance has a sushi counter and booth seating along the wall and tables in the center. Like the name says, expect to find sukiyaki here as well as traditional Japanese fare such as donburi, udon and nabemono. My go to for gauging Japanese food is tempura for $16 (is it light? Not too oily? Do they use panko on the shrimp?) as well as the rainbow roll ($14). Both did not disappoint. My personal pet peeve are slices of fish so thin you can see through them and the usage of sauce that drowns out the fresh fish flavor. I also tried the sukiyaki ($18) which was almost as good as my dad used to make. The folks that work here are Japanese so my bi-lingual boyfriend was able to communicate with them in Japanese to order exactly what he wanted. So lucky to have two fantastic restaurants next to each other in my hood!

A great place for sukiyaki and more! Very friendly and nice staff! We got 2 rolls, Hokkaido roll and the Nagato roll. Both delicious! The Sukiyaki was exceptional perfect and the kids meal, very generous portions. We got the teriyaki salmon kids bento and chicken katsu kids bento. The restaurant is not big but very comfortable. Definitely a must go place for Japanese food! I would go there again!

Very excited to have discovered this spot! I was surprised with everything that came along with the $24 Beef Sukiyaki dinner, which included a soup, salad and mixed tempura. The meal was delicious! I have never tried sukiyaki before but I will be back to have it again. Everything tasted very fresh too. Staff were friendly, and we were seated right away despite not having a reservation. This place gets pretty busy, we came in right before the rush started. They have a sushi bar you can also be seated at, but we opted for a table. It's a bit small so if you have a party of 5 or more, definitely make a reservation. There's only really room for one large party. The ambiance is traditional, charming and casual. Looking forward to going back!

I love this place. My friend, Injo, introduced me to this place and it feels like old style perfectly Japanese American restaurant food from my childhood (with updated sushi rolls). Same family running it and they are now my Sacramento family. LOL! I want them to adopt me. What made me so happy? It was the flavor - not too sweet. All of our bento dinners had tempura. One got beef and chicken teriyaki. I ordered zaru soba with tempura and an extra tempura a La carte. I had been birdwatching so I was pretty darned hungry. I don't typically order the Asian fusion rolls but there was this one roll that made my head explode with spicy happiness. The name of the roll I can't remember but the waitress was worried it would be too spicy. It wasn't. This was my second time here. I was too busy eating and entertaining my guest and didn't do my usual photos. Not to worry, I'll be back. This is now my go to place in Sacramento. I will behave myself and take photos next time. Service: Excellent - like eating at Obaachan's house (Grandma) back in the day. Portions - just right for hungry cycling buddies. Enough for American men, leftovers for lunch for the ladies. Flavor: Authentic solid Japanese food (not fancy gourmet) but classic food like Obaachan and my mom made for company. Quality guaranteed to impress the Aunties. You can bring the in-laws here and it won't break the bank. Also, parking is easy. What's not to like! Stop in and tell them Yoko sent you.

Excited to see they have a vegetarian section on their menu and decided to check them out. My friend and I are both vegetarians and wanted to try their curry and udon. Both dishes were alright and nothing special. Flavor-wise they tasted okay. The curry was a bit watery with cubed vegetables. The udon soup was bland and the dish contained just large chucks of vegetables and udon. I would skip the vegetarian dishes and maybe try their vegetarian rolls next time.

When I was a little girl all the Japanese restaurants had a traditional interior. Tots, in Little Tokyo LA only place I've been to recently which had the same interior. In comparison, this place is tasteful and cute.
