Very nicely appointed and clean. The staff, very nice and accommodating. The food is very tasty. There are two things that could be improved and they are the tortillas should come with the meal as well as the dip for the chips and not be a separate charge as the meals are on the expensive side to begin with.We had the steak Assad, very favorable. However, the steak strips seemed to be a little dry on the ends which makes them dry and hard. Still flavorful though. And the flour tortillas were a little dry and hard in part.I think if these concerns were addressed, it would a much more pleasant and agreeable experience.Oh and plus, the beer could be a lot colder! Lol.

Ever since Waffle Square closed, we've been curious about its replacement and have watched with anticipation as Monarca came to life. It was clear that they were putting a lot of care into the site - repainting & redecorating, creating an outside seating area, etc. This gave us hope that we'd have a new restaurant to enjoy close to home. Well, we went this evening, and it was a very disappointing experience. They did a nice job of remodeling and cleaning up the interior. It feels much more spacious, the new booths are comfortable, and it has a generally nice feel to it. However, it was fairly cold, and very loud and echoey, so a mixed bag there. The real problems for us arose when it came to our order. I recognize that they've only just opened, but was clear that our server doesn't really know the menu. Beyond that, she also wasn't paying much attention to us. There was confusion and misunderstanding regarding multiple aspects of our order which led to orders that didn't match what we expected, questions from us, and defensiveness from our server. Beyond that, the food was ok, but not great, and the portions were small. The chips were good, and they did give us a refill on them, but that hardly offsets the overall experience of the meal. My partner's enchilada was the smallest I can recall seeing in a restaurant, basically about 3 bites worth. It came on a tiny plate with rice (my partner asked for double rice instead of beans, but they messed that up, too). The cost for this 'combination plate'? $13. There was also an error on the bill that took 10+ minutes and 2 people to get corrected, with no apology. So, even allowing for some difficulties due to the fact that they've just opened, this was a disappointing experience on multiple levels, and definitely not one worth the nearly $50 we spent. We probably won't be back, certainly not anytime soon.

Monarca Mexican Restaurant has such a cute interior and a super friendly vibe. The service was excellent, and the food is definitely authentic. I had the huevos rancheros, which was beautifully presented with eggs, rice, beans, and cheese. The flavors were spot-on--exactly what I was hoping for--and it felt like a true Mexican breakfast. The large back room makes it a great spot for large groups. I'd definitely come back for lunch! Highly recommend this place for anyone craving authentic Mexican dishes in a welcoming atmosphere!

This place used to be an older waffle breakfast spot on Fulton. I have driven past is multiple times as they were remodeling it and I couldn't wait for it to open. My mom is in town visiting so I figured it was the perfect time to try it. We went in on a Sunday evening about 5:00 pm. We were greeted and sat immediately. I didn't catch our waitresses name but she was so sweet and we all really liked her. I tried their horchata and it was the perfect balance of sweet and cinnamon, my husband ended up drinking half of it. They also start you off with chips and two dips which were a red salsa and a bean dip. For my entree I ordered the shrimp al mojo de ajo. The food didn't take long to come out and it was very good, I will say it was a bit on the heavier side with all butter, the rice and the beans. It was better all wrapped up together in a corn tortilla. I felt as though it did need some citrus or sour cream to break up all that heaviness but it was good and had excellent flavor. The inside is very vibrant and has a cozy vibe for any meal of the day.

This was a 10/10 experience. When you walk in, it's is so open and comfortable, the murals on the walls are gorgeous. The staff is so friendly and helpful and attentive, they were on top of everything. Including bringing the forgotten shrimp for the michelada and reflecting the proper prices as the website and system are syncing up properly. We got a chimichanga with shredded beef(carnitas, steak, and shrimp are a dollar extra), they brought out complimentary chips and salsa and bean dip which was amazing. The salsa isn't chunky but smooth and it is tomatoey without being overpowering and it has a slight kick to it. The chips were the perfect chips and soooo good. The chips and sides are free but during breakfast time you have to ask for them. My husband got the michelada and it was super good, definitely a favorite for him. I got the country friend steak and eggs with poached eggs and hashbrowns instead of country potatoes. The hashbrowns were delicious and she even gave me the option to make them crispy. The gravy wasn't salty and it was delicious, nice and thick and sausage forward. The chimichanga was so thick and stuffed with meat, and it wasn't overly crispy but not too soft. We tried the enchilada sauce on the side and it was too tomato forward. However the guacamole on the chimichanga was AMAZING. Some of the best we've had. And they did a great job on the poached eggs. I think this will be a new frequent spot we will be going to!
