Started training at Maxwell's in March 2022 and really enjoy everything about it. I had zero experience in BJJ, but immediately felt welcomed. Everyone at Maxwell's is really supportive and helpful. Davin does a great job of explaining the drills and is always right there to walk you through it one on one or answer any questions! Couldn't ask for a better gym!

The best jiu jitsu in Sacramento hands down. Will go through every time I'm in Sacramento. The head instructor does a spectacular job and the kids program and private lessons are spectacular.

I recently moved backed to Sacramento after training and competing in Jiu Jitsu in San Diego for the past 3 years. I was surrounded by the best teachers/world champions around so when I came back to Sacramento I was hesitant on which school to choose. I tried one in folsom, one in Natomas and two others in Sacramento, but the level of instruction was not what I was looking for. I finally came into Maxwell BJJ and I could tell after the first class that this is where I need to be to keep improving. Professor Davin Maxwells attention to details is what stood out the most for me. I was having trouble with a variation of a move called the Berimbolo and he took the time during and after class to make sure I thoroughly understood it. I also really appreciate the schools vibe. Everyone is really cool with no ego. I'm very happy to have found this school and highly recommend.

My kids have been enrolled for a few months and they are learning so much and their confidence has improved. The teachers Davin and David are professional and technical. Highly recommended for kiddos 6 and up! Keep in mind bjj / grappling is a purely physical sport!

My 5 year old had been really excited to start jujitsu for weeks. Our first day we did a trial class. We showed up a bit early expecting there would be a bit of a run down, but there wasn't much information relayed, just that once the kids are on the mat they don't get off unless they are done with class (this includes not getting off for water breaks). I didn't see much effort from the instructors to establish a connection or welcome my child other that saying hello. The first class my child was on the verge of tears a few times which the instructor noted too. Admittedly my child is more on the sensitive shy side so not super surprised but she wanted to continue. In another class she was sparring with another child and very clearly struggling on the verge of tears and one of the instructors was walking around filming, when he got to her and her partner he didn't stop to provide instruction or support just kept filming. I didn't realize the filming was happening initially and don't recall being asked permission. By the third class she had a full meltdown. We tried to come back one last time but she was on the verge of tears just doing the warm ups. She went to one of the instructors who did try to encourage her but after a few seconds sent her off the mat. Overall the staff seemed friendly with me, but don't seem to be experienced dealing with a variety of children. They definitely know their craft and are passionate, but perhaps some training on how to best teach and engage with young children would help with the success and retention of child attendees. Would not recommend this for sensitive kids even if they are excited or self motivated to try jujitsu.

If you're interested in training BJJ, this is a great place to start!I wanted to pick up a sport this year because I was getting a little bored of the homeschool-work-home routine that I slipped into during quarantine. For whatever reason, I decided to pick up Jiu Jitsu just to learn something I was not familiar with at all. They let me try out a free class before committing and I do not regret it at all. If anything, I wish I would have found this place long before. I knew absolutely nothing about BJJ before coming in, I had just YouTubed a couple of videos before looking into gyms near me and I thought it looked intriguing enough to try out, so I did. Having no knowledge about it was no problem though because coaches Davin and David are very attentive, constructive, and patient. The culture of the gym is also very welcoming and everyone is genuinely helpful. I never thought I would be an adult picking up and sticking to a sport, but I don't see myself ever dropping this one and I'm only three months in. Every time I go to class, I leave satisfied. Very grateful to have found this place!

Maxwell BJJ is a great place to train for a beginner like myself. They have a phenomenal instructor and the best training partners around. If anyone is looking for an academy where they will be treated like family, look no further. Everyone is welcome and everyone gets treated with the utmost respect. Your training partners will encourage you for the better and are always there to assist whenever you want to pick their brain. Professor Davin is very passionate and detailed with his instructions, and explains each position clearly which allows for better drills and improving your technique. This seems to be true for beginners or advanced practitioners alike. The academy itself is very clean and spacious allowing for some great rolls. There's also ample parking spaces available. If you're looking to get into jiu jitsu you won't find a better academy.
